Summary Objectives: The Yearbook of Medical Informatics is published annually by the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and contains a selection of excellent papers on medical informatics research which have been recently published (www.yearbook.uni-hd.de). The 2003 Yearbook of Medical Informatics took as its theme the role of medical informatics for the quality of health care. In this paper, we will discuss challenges for health care, and the lessons learned from editing IMIA Yearbook 2003. Results and Conclusions: Modern information processing methodology and information and communication technology have strongly influenced our societies and health care. As a consequence of this, medical informatics as a discipline has taken a leading role in the further development of health care. This involves developing information systems that enhance opportunities for global access to health services and medical knowledge. Informatics methodology and technology will facilitate high quality of care in aging societies, and will decrease the possibilities of health care errors. It will also enable the dissemination of the latest medical and health information on the web to consumers and health care providers alike. The selected papers of the IMIA Yearbook 2003 present clear examples and future challenges, and they highlight how various sub-disciplines of medical informatics can contribute to this.

Percent daily values provide important information that consumers can use to manage the nutritional quality of their diets. The authors report on four experiments that examined conditions in which summary information (such as average or range) may prove more useful than daily values in assessing nutritional content and conditions in which it may not. Two experiments provided evidence that summary information outperforms percent daily values in helping consumers judge the nutritional content of a brand compared with other offerings in that category. Two more experiments identified a key variable—the availability of multiple brands for comparison—that moderates the facilitating effect of summary information.

the current utilization of nike fish and tuna is still limited to fresh condition. Crackers are a very popular food by all levels of society. Utilization of nike fish and tuna in processed form with longer shelf life has not been done. Nutritional content of both types of fish is a reason in the selection as a basic ingredient in making crackers. The purpose of this research is to know the formulation of nike fish and tuna to the quality of crackers. The observation parameters in this study are the level of favorite or hedonic method, water content, ash content, bloom and texture analizer. The results showed that the average water content of nike fish crackers and skipjack fish from treatment A1 3.3%, treatment A2 3.29%, A3 3.77%. Mean of ash content at treatment of A1 1,97%, treatment of A2 1,55%, treatment of A3 1,58%. The average of A1 is 283,54%, A2 242,75%, A3 182,23%. and the mean of analyzer analyzer test at A1 1185,6%, A2 708,9%, and A3 783,83%. Based on the results and the discussion that has been done on the quality of crackers, it can be concluded that the best formula and liked by the panelists is formula A1

Recently, metal and other nanoparticles have been widely used to improve crop growth and development, reduce used chemical amount, increase safety of agricultural products and prevent soil and water pollution. Seed treatment technology with metal nanoparticles to stimulate seed germination and improve crop yields has been reported in several studies. In order to assess the safety of the use of metal nanoparticles in agriculture production, in this study the effect and safety of seed treatment with nanoparticles (nCu) prior to sowing on the germination, growth, development, productivity and quality of maize (Zea mays L.) were evaluated in the field conditions. Seeds of maize cultivar LVN 092 were treated with nCu at different concentrations before planting. Germination and plant growth rates, plants yield and grain nutrition were monitored and evaluated. The obtained results showed that treatment of maize seed with nCu at a concentration of 20 mg/kg seed increased germination after 7 days of sowing as well as the theoretical and actual yields compared to the control and the treatment of 1000 mg nCu/1 kg seeds. Other agricultural characteristics, such as the development rate, plant height, grain nutritional content including moisture, ash, total fiber, crude protein, minerals were not significantly between treatments and the control. Therefore, the seed treatments with metal nanoparticles can be contribute to improve agriculture production without impact to quality of crops.

Poultry need food to maintain their lives and to produce. To meet the needs of these nutritional elements, poultry eat from various types of food. Because there is no single food ingredient that contains a complete nutritional element, so we need a variety of appropriate and balanced food ingredients to meet nutritional needs. This can be done by choosing cheap food ingredients without ignoring the quality of the nutritional content that is adjusted to the type and age of poultry. To solve the above problems, an expert system with a forward chaining method can be used to determine the nutritional needs and nutritional content of food ingredients, while linear programming with the simplex method is used to determine the combination of poultry feed-forming ingredients that meet economical poultry nutritional needs. The combination of the forward chaining method and the simplex method can accelerate the preparation of combinations of food ingredients, so that the resulting application can provide a solution in making decisions for the selection of food ingredients forming ration effectively

The European Parliament (EP) symbolizes many of the struggles that characterize the process of European integration and is at the core of many theoretical and empirical debates about representation, accountability, and legitimacy. This chapter draws on a variety of theoretical approaches to explain the complex role the EP plays in the political system of the European Union (EU). It starts with a brief overview of the history and functions of the assembly, followed by a theoretical explanation of its empowerment over time. Then, it determines the extent to which the EP is capable of influencing policymaking, both in legislative and non-legislative domains, as well as for the appointment of the Commission. It presents the political structure of the assembly and underlines the role of parliamentary groups and committees. It discusses the representativeness of the EP and the democratic quality of its internal functioning. Finally, it addresses current and future challenges for the EP.

This chapter introduces the overall concept of multimedia Quality of Experience (QoE) over the Internet. It presents all the elements of multimedia QoE ecosystem and emphasizes their roles in determining the user satisfaction. The chapter also presents different multimedia transmission components and how these components contribute to successful transmission of the media content. In addition, some key performance indicators relevant to the multimedia QoE are presented with more emphasis on network and application level indicators. Furthermore, different QoE estimation methods and techniques along with QoS/QoE learning algorithms are presented. Finally, the chapter includes some of the future challenges and issues related to multimedia QoE.
