Although previous studies have investigated the ability of traditional Chinese health exercises (TCHEs) to improve cognitive function, few have utilized bibliometric analyses to address this topic. We aimed to investigate the current status of and developmental trends in this field from 2001 to 2020. We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for all research publications on cognitive function in relation to TCHEs. CiteSpace V was used to analyze the number of papers, countries, institutions, journals, authors, and citations. We identified hotspots and trends in the field by drawing co-citation reference and co-occurrence keyword maps. From 2001 to 2020, 406 relevant articles were published in the WoSCC, with a gradual increase in the annual number of publications. The three countries/regions with the most publications were the Chinese mainland, the United States, and Canada. Six universities from China and four from the United States were identified as the top 10 institutions. Most research was conducted at universities. Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine was identified as the most productive journal. Together, these findings indicate that TCHEs have received increasing attention as a method for improving cognition.

BACKGROUND Smartphones have become an integral part of our lives with their unprecedented popularity and diversification of applications. The continuous upgrading of information technology has also enabled smartphones to display great potential in the field of healthcare. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to clarify the future research direction of mHealth by analyzing its research trends and latest research hotspots. METHODS This study collected mHealth-related literature published between 2000 and 2020 from the Web of Science database. Descriptive statistics of the literature were computed using Excel software. The publication trends of mHealth research were determined by analyzing the annual number of publications in the literature and annual number of publications categorized based on different countries. Finally, this study used the VOSviewer tool to construct visualization network maps of country/region collaborations and author keyword co-occurrences, and overlay visualization maps of the average publication year of author keywords to analyze the hotspots and research trends in mHealth research. RESULTS In this study, 12,593 mHealth-related research articles published between 2000 and 2020 were collected. The results showed an exponential growth trend in the number of annual publications in mHealth literature. The United States remained the leading contributor to the literature in this area (5,294/12,593, 42%), well ahead of other countries/regions. Other countries/regions also showed a clear trend of annual increases in the number of publications in mHealth literature. Regarding cooperation between countries, the four countries with the largest number of publications, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, were found to cooperate more closely. The rest of the countries/regions showed a clear geographical pattern of cooperation. The keyword co-occurrence analysis of the top 100 authors formed five clusters, namely: development of mHealth medical technology and its application in various diseases, use of mHealth technology to improve basic public health and health policy, mHealth self-health testing and management in daily life, adolescent use of mHealth, and mHealth in mental health. The research trends revealed a gradual shift in mHealth research from health policy and improving public healthcare to the development and social application of mHealth technologies. CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, the most current bibliometric analysis dates back to 2016. However, the number of mHealth researches published between 2017 and 2020 exceeds the previous total. Therefore, the results of this study shed light on the latest research hotspots and research trends in mHealth research. These findings provide a useful overview of the development of the field; they may also serve as a valuable reference and provide guidance for other researchers in the field.

Abstract Background The use of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in treatment of chronic degenerative pathologies of the knee has boasted of an experience of 50 years. The aim of this bibliometric and visualized study is to comprehensively examine the current status and global trends of TKA research. Methods Publications related to TKA research from 2010 to 2019 were retrieved from Web of Science database, and then analyzed through bibliometric methodology. As for the visualized study, the software VOS viewer was utilized for bibliographic coupling, coauthorship, cociation, and co-occurrence analysis, along with further simulation of publication trends in this field. Results A total of 8631 publications were eventually included. The number of publications tends to increased annually over the worldwide. The United States was the pioneer which has made tremendous contribution, with the most publications and citations, as well as the highest H-index. The JOURNAL OF ARTHROPLASTY has published most papers, while CLINICAL ORTHOPAEDICS AND RELATED RESEARCH has the highest citation frequency. Hospital for Special Surgery have made the greatest contribution when total publication number and coauthorship were taken together. Studies could be divided into five clusters: “alignment study”, “revision TKA study”, “complication study”, “rehabilitation study”, and “perioperative management study”, which have a trend of balanced development in this field. Conclusions There will be an increasing number of publications on TKA research according to the current global trends, and the United States maintained the leadership in this area. Additionally, a trend of balanced development may exist in the field of TKA research, accompanied with inherent changes of hotspots in each cluster.

BACKGROUND Background: Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have recently become popular research themes. However, there are no published bibliometric reports that have analyzed the corresponding scientific literature in relation to the application of these technologies in surgery. Our study aims to study the research trend on virtual reality and surgery, and compare the contribution of publications from different countries, institutions, journals and authors. OBJECTIVE We used a bibliometric approach to identify and analyze the scientific literature on virtual reality and surgery during 2001-2020 form Web of Science. GraphPad Prism 6, and VOSviewer software were used to collect and analyze the publication trend in related field, revealing the popular research topics, key authors, scientific institutions, countries, and journals. METHODS The Web of Science electronic database was searched to identify relevant papers on VR research in surgery. Basic publication and citation data were acquired using the “Analyze” and “Create Citation Report” functions of the database. Complete bibliographic data were exported to VOSviewer for further analyses. Visualization maps were generated to illustrate the recurring keywords and words mentioned in the titles and abstracts. RESULTS We identified a total of 3323 publications with citation frequency of 81919 times up to August 21, 2021. The United States accounted for the largest number of publications (30.575%), 31199 of total citations as well as the highest H-index (88). The sum of publications from China ranked the fifth, while the overall citations (3257) and H-index (29) ranked the eighth and the ninth, respectively. The paper published on Annals of Surgery in 2002 had been cited for 1759times, which was the most cited papers in related field. The “system research” seemed to be the hotspot in relevant scope. CONCLUSIONS The United States made the most outstanding contribution within this important field. There is a mismatch between the quantity and quality of publications from China. Latest progress can be tracked in Annals of Surgery. Augmented reality related researches may be hotspots in the near future.

Research on the field of nanomaterials in environment has continued to be a major area of interest in recent years. To present the up-to-date progress in this field, a bibliometric study is conducted to analyze 7087 related publications in the Science Citation Index (SCI) core collection of Web of Science based on the expanded SCI. These publications are identified through using representative keywords in the research directions environment of the Web of Science. This study finds that China and the United States dominate the field; one difference between them is that China issued more independent publications and the United States issued more cooperative publications. In addition, the number of the related publications in Asian countries has exceeded that of European and American ones. A Chinese institution, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has an absolute dominance in this field. Traditional high-impact environmental journals have ruled this field. The number of publications in the Energy and Environmental Science field has gradually decreased. In addition, a co-citation analysis shows that previous studies in this field can be divided into four major branches, and that graphene oxide and nano-inorganic particles are increasingly becoming research hotspots.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that was declared as a pandemic has been the main subject of research all over the world. Especially studies on COVID-19 vaccines has become a hope for everyone. In this study, we aimed to analyse entire literature through Web of Science© Core Collection Database and reveal the current status of COVID-19 vaccine literature. We entered the keywords “COVID-19” and “vaccine” to Web of Science© Core Collection Database on January 20, 2021. Web of Science categories, document types, organizations, funding agencies, authors, journals, countries, languages, study fields, were investigated. A total of 2,765 publications with 24,202 citations times were involved into the study. Majority of the publications were original articles. Immunology, General Internal Medicine and Experimental Medicine Research were the top categories. Top productive Universities were Harvard University, University of California System and University of London. Dhama K. had the highest number of publications followed by Mahase E. and Baric RS. Journal of Biomolecular Structure Dynamics had published the highest number of publications. Majority of the publications were written in English. The United States of America was the most productive country followed by China and India. Research in vaccines is a growing field and is an essential component in the fight against COVID-19. Detailed analyses on vaccine publications may help researchers determine the future perspective.

Abstract Background: Tendinopathy is a disabling musculoskeletal disorder affecting the athletic and general populations. There have been increased studies using stem cells in treating tendon diseases. The aim of this bibliometric and visualized study is to comprehensively investigate the current status and global trends of research in stem cells for tendon. Methods: Publications related to stem cells for tendon from 1991 to 2020 were retrieved from Web of Science. The source data were studied and indexed using a bibliometric methodology. VOS viewer software was used to conduct for the visualized study, including bibliographic coupling, co-authorship, co-citation and co-occurrence analysis and to analyze the publication trends of research in stem cells for tendon. Results: In total, 2492 articles were included. Though the relative research interests decline since 2018, the number of publications increased annually worldwide. The United States made the largest contribution to this field, with the most publications, citations and the highest H-index. The most contributive institutions were University of Pittsburgh, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Journal of Orthopaedic Research published the most relative articles. Studies could be classified into five clusters: “animal study”, “tissue engineering”, “clinical study”, “mechanism research” and “stem cells research”, which show a trend of balanced development in this field. Conclusions: The number of publications on stem cells in treating tendon diseases may have reached a platform based on current global trends. The United States made the largest contribution to this field. In addition, according to the inherent changes of hotspots in each cluster and the possibilities of cross-research, the research in stem cells for tendon may exist a balanced development trend.

AIM: To track the knowledge structure, topics in focus, and trends in emerging research in pterygium in the past 20y. METHODS: Base on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), studies related to pterygium in the past 20y from 2000-2019 have been included. With the help of VOSviewer software, a knowledge map was constructed and the distribution of countries, institutions, journals, and authors in the field of pterygium noted. Meanwhile, using co-citation analysis of references and co-occurrence analysis of keywords, we identified basis and hotspots, thereby obtaining an overview of this field. RESULTS: The search retrieved 1516 publications from WoSCC on pterygium published between 2000 and 2019. In the past two decades, the annual number of publications is on the rise and fluctuated a little. Most productive institutions are from Singapore but the most prolific and active country is the United States. Journal Cornea published the most articles and Coroneo MT contributed the most publications on pterygium. From co-occurrence analysis, the keywords formed 3 clusters: 1) surgical therapeutic techniques and adjuvant of pterygium, 2) occurrence process and pathogenesis of pterygium, and 3) epidemiology, and etiology of pterygium formation. These three clusters were consistent with the clustering in co-citation analysis, in which Cluster 1 contained the most references (74 publications, 47.74%), Cluster 2 contained 53 publications, accounting for 34.19%, and Cluster 3 focused on epidemiology with 18.06% of total 155 co-citation publications. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that the research of pterygium is gradually attracting the attention of scholars and researchers. The interaction between authors, institutions, and countries is lack of. Even though, the research hotspot, distribution, and research status in pterygium in this study could provide valuable information for scholars and researchers.

Background: Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic condition that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. To date, no bibliometric analysis on HS exists. Analyzing the top 100 citations is important to understand the characteristics of the most influential studies in the HS research landscape, and to guide future research. Objective: To analyze the top 100 most cited articles on HS using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Searches within Scopus and Web of Science using "Hidradenitis Suppurativa" and "Acne Inversa" were conducted on May 14th, 2020. After excluding non-original articles, data for the top 100 articles were analyzed using R-studio and Bibliometrix. Five independent reviewers identified study topic and design. Results: The top 100 most cited articles on HS were published between 1982 and 2017 with an average of 128.3 citations. The top research topic and design were treatment (40 articles) and randomized controlled trials (9), respectively. 2011 had the highest number of publications (9), and the 2012 article by Gregor B. E. Jemec had the highest citations (439). These articles were from 14 different countries with the United States and Denmark as top countries. 27 journals published these articles with the British Journal of Dermatology (BJD) as the top journal. Denmark had the greatest outside country collaborations. Conclusions: The results of our study showed that HS research is steadily growing with greatest support from the BJD. There is a focus on treatments in HS research with the United States and European countries leading the way. However, greater worldwide research of HS is needed.

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor that occurs in children and adolescents. Increasing numbers of scholars have studied its development and treatment. To fully understand the current status of osteosarcoma research and global trends therein, we performed a bibliometric and visual analysis of osteosarcoma studies published between 1999 and 2019. Methods We searched the Web of Science database for publications on osteosarcoma. The basic characteristics of this sample of publications, such as H indices, annual outputs, languages of publication, and authors, journals, institutions, and countries of origin, were determined. Co-citation, collaboration, and keyword co-occurrence were analyzed using CiteSpace software. Results The sample comprised 16,934 articles. The number of publications increased annually. H indices and total numbers of citations were far higher for articles from the United States than for those from other countries. Among institutions, the largest proportion of articles originated from Shanghai Jiaotong University. R. Gorlick was the author with the highest H index and total number of citations. Oncology Letters published the largest number of articles and Cancer Research was the most frequently cited journal. The five most frequently appearing keywords were “osteosarcoma,” “cancer,” “expression,” “apoptosis,” and “metastasis.” The analysis generated 10 major clusters of keywords and 23 clusters of co-cited references. Conclusions The findings of this study have guiding significance for researchers seeking cooperating institutions and partners for osteosarcoma research, popular journals and important literature in the field, an understanding of the knowledge base for this research, and up-to-date identification of research hotspots and trends.
