Background: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has been established as a classic procedure for the management of cervical radiculopathy. However, it is unclear whether combined uncinate process resection (UPR) is necessary for treating cervical radiculopathy. Here, we investigated the clinical outcome of ACDF combined with UPR compared to ACDF alone to determine the necessity of UPR in treating cervical radiculopathy.Hypothesis: Uncinate process resection may be necessary in certain patients along with ACDF to achieve better clinical outcomes of cervical radiculopathy.Patients and Methods: Fifty-five patients underwent ACDF with UPR, and 126 patients without UPR were reviewed. The width and height of the intervertebral foramen were measured by 45° oblique X-rays. We also measured the Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score and visual analog scale (VAS) score. C2–C7 Cobb angles were obtained from all patients pre- and post-operatively. Meanwhile, linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between the clinical outcomes and the intervertebral foramen width before surgery. Results: Linear regression analysis indicated that the improvement in the JOA and VAS scores was irrelevant to both the pre-operative width of the intervertebral foramen (wIVF) and the height of the intervertebral foramen (hIVF) in the ACDF+UPR group. However, pre-operative wIVF was associated with post-operative JOA and VAS scores in the ACDF alone group. Those with pre-operative wIVF <3 mm in the ACDF group had the least improvement in post-operative clinical symptoms due to the change in wIVF (P > 0.05). The ACDF group whose wIVF was over 3 mm showed similar clinical outcomes to the ACDF + UPR group, and wIVF significantly increased post-operatively (P < 0.05). The fusion rate and C2–C7 Cobb angles did not show significant differences between the two groups (P > 0.05).Discussion: Our current findings suggest that UPR should be considered when wIVF is <3 mm pre-operatively. However, there is no need to sacrifice the uncovertebral joint in ACDF when the pre-operative wIVF is over 3 mm.Level of Evidence: Level III.

X-rays are a type of electromagnetic energy which widely used in different areas. Since their discovery, x-rays have been used, especially for medical imaging applications. On the other hand, new efficient x-ray generation methods have still been under investigation. Although new imaging modalities arose, xrays have never lost their popularity in many applications like computed tomography and dental imaging. Among these new methods, x-ray generation using pyroelectric crystal materials is one of the promising technologies. Pyroelectric crystals generate an electric field when a temperature change occurs and are affected by various parameters like how many times (count) the crystal’s temperature changed in a second. Hence, this new technology needs more research. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the count number and x-rays’ energy level of pyroelectric materials using linear regression analysis. We used a commercial software package, which is called the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), for this purpose. As a result, we achieved a good fit value of R2 = 0.91.

Abstract Background Zika virus (ZIKV) is a Flavivirus transmitted to humans by Aedes mosquitos. To assess the clinical presentation in 434 symptomatic patients (64 men, 370 women [65 pregnant; 305 nonpregnant]) during a ZIKV outbreak in the Dominican Republic (DR) in 2016, we evaluated clinical symptoms, ZIKV by qualitative detection of ZIKV RNA and ZIKV IgM by two MAC-ELISA assays, one from CDC and performed by the Florida Department of Health, Jacksonville, FL and one from InBios International Inc., Seattle, WA (Zika Virus Detect). Methods The Aptima ZIKV assay (Hologic, San Diego, CA) was used to detect ZIKV by transcription-mediated amplification RT–PCR in serum, plasma, or urine. Corresponding clinical symptomology reports were reviewed for all 434 patients. The results from the two MAC-ELISA assays were evaluated by linear regression analysis. The two MAC-ELISA assays were reported as optical density (OD) ratios from a sample with three different antigens (P/N ratio for CDC Zika MAC-ELISA and Zika Immune Status Ratio or ISR for InBios Zika Virus Detect MAC-ELISA). Results There was a biphasic increase in ZIKV detection in April and late May/June 2016 in the 434 symptomatic patients. All 434 had one or more of four symptoms including rash, fever, conjunctivitis, and arthralgia. Linear regression analysis (log scale) of results from subject samples tested on the two MAC-ELISAs (282 total) revealed a slope of 1.172, y-intercept of 0.1584 and R2 of 0.587. In 88 RT–PCR-negative patients, 48 (54.5%) were positive by both MAC-ELISAs; 27 (30.7%) were negative by both MAC-ELISAs and 13 (14.7%) had discrepant results with a sensitivity of 85% for the InBios MAC-ELISA. The InBios also detected IgM in 54.4% of samples that were positive for ZIKV by RT–PCR attributable to errors in determining the days post symptom onset. Conclusion In 2016 there was a biphasic spike of ZIKV-positive infections in 434 symptomatic men and women tested in DR. Both linear regression analysis and our comparative analysis in the ZIKV RT–PCR-positive and negative cohorts demonstrate that the InBios Zika Virus Detect MAC-ELISA provides diagnostic results comparable to the CDC Zika MAC-ELISA. Some students perceive lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) positively, even though LGBT is a sexual deviation that is not appropriate with values and norms. There are several factors that influence an individual's perception of LGBT, including sexual identity. This study aims at looking at the contribution of sexual identity to student perceptions about LGBT. This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive method and a simple linear regression analysis. The sample of this research was 385 taken from 15.752 undergraduate students of Universitas Negeri Padang which the sample was drawn by using the Slovin formula and continued with a Proportional Random Sampling technique. The instrument used was the Guttman model's sexual identity scale and the scale of students' perceptions of the LGBT Likert model. After analyzing the data with the descriptive technique and the simple linear regression analysis, the results showed that sexual identity significantly contributed to the students' perceptions of LGBT. This research has implications as a basis for counselors to help students avoid sexual identity mismatches and prevent the emergence of positive perceptions of LGBT.
