The vertnin (VRTN) gene g.20311_20312ins291 was reported as an important variant related to the number of ribs (RIB), and the ins/ins genotype was advantageous for improving RIB of Western pigs. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the VRTN gene g.20311_20312ins291 influences RIB, carcass traits, and body size traits, including cannon bone circumference (CBC) in Chinese Suhuai pigs. We found that the VRTN gene g.20311_20312ins291 was polymorphic in Suhuai fattening pigs and gilts. The polymorphism of g.20311_20312ins291 was significantly associated with RIB and CDL in Suhuai fattening pigs (p < 0.01), whereas this variant had no influence on carcass weight (CWT). There was a tendency of association between this variant and carcass straight length (CSL) in Suhuai fattening pigs (p = 0.06). The polymorphism of g.20311_20312ins291 was also significantly associated with CBC in Suhuai gilts (p = 0.04). Furthermore, CBC was positively genetically correlated with body length (0.22, p < 0.01) and body weight (0.15, p < 0.01). Our results indicated that the VRTN gene g.20311_20312ins291 could be used as a potential marker for improving RIB, CDL, and CBC in Suhuai pigs.

<p><em>This study aim to know the relationship between body size, body weight and carcass weight of male Simmental Ongole crossbred at various age. The study was conducted in Jagalan abattoir in Surakarta for 2 months from December 2016 untill Januari 2016. Ninety heads of male Simmental Ongole crossbred were grouped into 3 groups (each 30 heads) that are Group 1 (1,5-2 years old), Group 2 (2-3 years old) and Group 3 (3-3,5 years old) according to dental anatomy observation at the incisivus replacement. Body length and chest circumference were respectively observed then correlated with body weight and carcass weight. Result shows a strong correlation between body weight and carcass weight by r value 0.931. The correlation between body length with body weight, chest circumference with body weight of Group1, Group 2 and Group 3 also shows in similiar pattern, with r value 0.647, 0.787, 0.666, and 0.661, 0.851, 0.661 respectively. A strong correlation also expressed between body length with carcass weight and chest circumference with carcass weight in each of groups as shown by r value 0.638, 0.740, 0.551 and 0.572, 0.803, 0.603 respectively. It is conculded that body size, body weight and carcass weight of male Simmental Ongole crossbreed have strong correlation among others.</em></p>

In this study, canonical correlation analysis was applied to estimate the relationship between body measurements and carcass traits of 28 male cross bred rabbits of about 12 weeks of age, reared under semi intensive system. Four body measurements, pre-slaughter weight (PSW) , body length (BL), chest circumference (CC), and ear length (EL) as predictor variable while dressing percentage ( DP) , hot carcass weight (HCW) and cold carcass weight (CCW) as criterion variables. Pre-slaughter weight and body length had significant (P<0.001) simple correlation coefficients with the carcass traits except for dressing percentage. The three canonical variate pairs ranged between .99 to .42 and only the first pair was significant (P<0.001). From the analysis pre-slaughter weight and body length can be regarded as the main factors as live measurement traits, while dressing percentage did not have pronounced effect on the emerged criterion variables.

This study aimed to determine the Correlation and the regression equation between body measurements and body weight of Brahman Cross (BX) Cow in KPT Maju Sejahtera Trimulyo village, Tanjung Bintang District, Lampung Selatan Regency. This research was conducted in July 2020. The data obtained were analyzed using simple and multiple regression analysis using the help of the Excel program. The material used in this study were 32 Brahman Cross (BX) Cow aged 2-3 years. The results of this study indicated that the average of Body Weight (BW), Chest Circumference (CC), Body Length (BL), and Shoulder height (SH) were 472.66 � 53.59 kg, 179.95 � 7, 95 cm, 132.49 � 6.39 cm, 127.95 � 3.08 cm, respectively. The correlation value between CC, BL, SH with BB were 0.764, 0.448, and 0.551, respectively. These results indicated that CC, BL, SH, have a positive relationship with BW. The regression equation resulting from the relationship between body weight and body size CC, BL, SH to BW with the value of determination (R2) and significance (P?0.05) was 0.607 (60.7%) with the regression equation BW = -674.003 + 4.314 CC + 1.247 BL + 1.602 SH. AbstrakCacing Nipah Pendek Namalycastis abiuma memiliki tubuh yang elastis dan mudah putus sehingga diperlukan pendekatan morfometri tubuh lain untuk menentukan panjang tubuh sesungguhnya. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menentukan panjang tubuh total cacing nipah pendek dengan menggunakan bobot tubuh, jumlah total segmen berseta, panjang tiga segmen anterior pertama (L3) dan lebar segmen berseta atau setiger ke-10 (S-10). Spesimen yang digunakan dipilih hanya individu yang lengkap dan utuh. Pengukuran dilakukan dibawah mikroskop dengan lensa okular yang dilengkapi dengan mikrometer. Data dianalisis dengan analisis korelasi. Cacing yang digunakan sebanyak 258 individu yang terdiri atas 190 immature, 54 submature dan 14 mature dengan ukuran panjang tubuh rata-rata berturut-turut 108,62±34,80 mm, 172,27±42,78 mm dan 123,14±57,40 mm. Cacing betina ditemukan memiliki ukuran tubuh lebih besar dari jantan. Panjang tubuh N. abiuma dapat diduga dengan bobot tubuh, panjang L3 dan lebar S-10 dengan nilai koefisien korelasi (r) berturut-turut 0,82, 0,73 dan 0,78. Pendekatan morfometri dapat digunakan untuk menentukan ukuran tubuh N. abiuma.Abstract The short nypa palm worm Namalycastis abiuma has an elastic and fragile body. Therefore, an alternative approach of morphometrical techniques is needed to determine the total body length. This research aimed to estimate the total body length of the short nypa palm worm based on body weight, the total number of segments, the length of the first three anterior segment (L3) and the tenth setiger width (S10). Body measurement was done using stereomicroscope fitted with the micrometer. Correlation analysis was done to describe the relationship between the length of L3 and the width of S10. A total of 258 complete and whole specimens consisted of 190 immature, 54 submature, and 14 mature individuals. The average body length of immature individuals was 108.62±34.80 mm, 172.27±42.78 mm for sub mature individuals, and 123.14±57.40 mm for mature individuals. Based on sexual dimorphism, the female body size is larger than male. The body length of N. abiuma can be estimated by body weight, the length of L3, and the  width of S10, with  correlation coefficient (r) of 0.82, 0.73 and 0.78, respectively. Morphometry approach can be used to determine the body size of N. abiuma.

Background: GnRH-1 mainly exists in hypothalamus and it is vital to gonad development and sexual maturity of animals. This study mainly analyzed the association between GnRH-1 polymorphism and carcass traits of quails, Research conclusions can provide references for breeding of new species of quail.Methods: From 2018 to 2019, 31 female samples of Chinese Yellow quail, beijingbai quail and Korean quail were collected in Luolong District, Luoyang City, Henan Province, China.SNP mutation sites of GnRH-1 gene were investigated in China yellow quail, Beijing white quail and Korean quail through PCR amplification and DNA sequencing technologys. Moreover, correlation analysis between polymorphism sites of GnRH-1 gene and carcass traits of quail was performed. Result: According to research results, a total of 14 SNP mutation sites of GnRH-1 were detected in China yellow quail, Beijing white quail and Korean quail, which were C71T, C108T, C168T, C178T, A184G, C206T, A209C, C215T, A252G, A279T, C281T, C293G, C339T and C458T. For A209C and C281T, only 2 genotypes were detected in China yellow quail and Beijing white quail, while for the remaining 12 SNP mutation sites, 3 genotypes were detected in three quail species. Correlation analysis showed that A209C, A279T, C281T and C339T were significantly correlated with liver weight (P less than 0.05), A209C, C281T and C339T were significantly correlated with dressing percentage (P less than 0.05), C215T and A279T were significantly correlated with breast muscle weight(whole) (P less than 0.05), A209C was significantly correlated with body weight, dressed carcass weight and whole net carcass weight (P less than 0.05).

Biodiversitas 21: 3415-3421.  This study was designed to analyze the body weight, body measurements and slaughter characteristics of Madura cattle raised in Pamekasan district, East Java province, Indonesia. A total of 2,373 records on live body weight and body measurements (body length, height at withers and chest girth), and 69 records on slaughter traits (slaughter, carcass, and meat weight, as well as carcass and meat percentage) from both sexes were used. Sampled animals were divided into three groups based on age (calf: 0- to10-month-old; young: 11- to 24-month-old; adult: >24-month-old). The data were analyzed using independent sample t-test to assess significant differences between sex groups and subjected to multiple linear regression analyses to obtain prediction equations of body weight from body measurements, carcass weight from slaughter weight, and meat weight from slaughter- and carcass-weight. Results showed that body weight, height at withers, and chest girth between male and female cattle in all age groups were significantly different (P<0.05). Male cattle showed higher slaughter weight, carcass weight and carcass percentage mean values than female cattle. Body measurements showed high correlation with body weight (r ≥0.80). Height at withers, body length, and chest girth represented good body measurements to predict body weight (R2 = from 0.65 to 0.83). Moreover, as observed, high correlations between slaughter weight and carcass- (r = 0.94; R2 = 0.89) and meat-weight (r = 0.99; R2 = 0.98) would imply that meat weight could be predicted accurately from slaughter- and carcass-weight.

ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghitung nilai korelasi antara bobot badan dengan ukuran tubuh serta mengestimasi bobot badan (BB) berdasarkan ukuran tubuh. Materi penelitian ini adalah 159 ekor sapi Aceh umur sapih dan umur satu tahun. Metode penelitian adalah studi kasus berdasarkan data bobot sapih dan bobot satu tahun beserta ukuran tubuh sapi Aceh. Hasil penelitian pada sapi Aceh umur sapih menunjukkan korelasi bobot badan dengan lingkar dada, panjang badan, dan tinggi pundak berturut-turut 0.65, 0,56 dan 0,64, sedangkan nilai determinasinya adalah 0,42, 0,30 dan 0,41. Model regresi untuk estimasi bobot badan umur sapih yaitu BB= -30,23 + 0,47LD + 0,13PB + 0,50TP. Untuk sapi Aceh umur satu tahun nilai korelasi bobot badan dengan lingkar dada, panjang badan, dan tinggi pundak berturut-turut 0.69, 0,58 dan 0,55, nilai determinasinya adalah 0,47, 0,34 dan 0,30. Persamaan garis regresi untuk sapi Aceh umur satu tahun yaitu BB = -44,96 + 0,72LD + 0,46PB + 0,24TP. Berdasarkan hasil analisis korelasi menunjukkan bahwa korelasi lingkar dada dengan bobot badan memiliki hubungan paling kuat dibandingkan dengan panjang badan dan tinggi pundak.  (Correlation between body size and body weight of Aceh Cattle at weaning and yearling age) ABSTRACT. The regression equation for yearling Aceh cattle was BW = -44.96 + 0.72CC + 0.46BL + 0.24SH. This study showed that the highest correlation was observed on the body weight with chest circumference compared to those with either body length or shoulder height.

Abstract In this investigation, performance, feed efficiency and carcass traits of 48 weaned crossbred Grey Shirazi × Ghezel and purbred Grey Shirazi fattening lambs (mean live weight, 28.5 ± 0.5 kg and age, 115 ± 5 days) were evaluated. Lambs were divided into 4 groups contain the GM group (12 purebred male lambs of Grey Shirazi ewe × Grey Shirazi ram), the GF group (12 purebred female lambs of Grey Shirazi ewe × Grey Shirazi ram), the CM group (12 crossbred male lambs of Grey Shirazi ewe × Ghezel ram) and the CF group (12 crossbred female lambs of Grey Shirazi ewe × Ghezel ram). The dry matter intakes (DMI), average daily gain (ADG) and carcass traits in the lambs were determined. The DMI was greater in CF lambs compared to GF lambs (P < 0.001). Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was higher in male lambs comparing to female lambs (P = 0.001). The final body weight, ADG, live weight at the slaughtering and hot carcass weight (HCW) were lower in GF lambs compared to another lambs (P < 0.001, P = 0.003). Cold carcass weight (CCW) in CM lambs was higher than in other groups. The Longissimus dorsi (LD) area was higher in crossbreed male lambs (P = 0.001). Crossbreeding improved grow performance (final body weight and ADG) in male and female lambs. Carcass trait was improved by crossbreeding especially in male lambs. Sex effect on growth performance and carcass traits was noticeable and male lambs had superior growth.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationship between live measurements and carcass traits, and develop linear regression models to predict live weight and set of carcass traits in an indigenous guinea fowl. Twenty eight adult indigenous birds of both sexes were used for the study. Live weight and body measurements were obtained before slaughter while carcass traits were taken on hot carcass. Result obtained from descriptive statistics showed that, mean performance were 1208?6.86g, 22.17?0.13 cm, 8.94?0.07cm, 2.96?0.03cm, 34.23?0.19cm, 850.15?7.18g, 267.23?1.69g, 72.39?0.64g and 70.38% for body weight, body length, thigh length, keel length, chest circumference, carcass weight, breast weight, thigh weight and dressing percentage. All the traits except for keel length were positively (P<0.001) correlated to body weight. Chest circumference had the highest predictive power in live weight estimate (R2.558), while body weight stand out as the single most important variable in carcass weight and breast weight prediction (R2.820 and .902) This suggest that carcass weight and breast weight prediction can best be obtained using body weight, providing direction in developing model for selection and improvement of guinea fowl for meat production.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penampilan produksi sapi aceh di BPTU-HPT Indrapuri Aceh. Materi penelitian yaitu sapi aceh umur satu hari, umur sapih, dan umur satu tahun sebanyak 159 ekor. Metode penelitian adalah studi kasus berdasarkan data bobot lahir, bobot sapih, bobot satu tahun beserta ukuran tubuhnya. Data dianalisis menunjukkan bahwa sapi jantan memiliki bobot lahir 13,66±1,08 kg, bobot umur 205 hari 71,60±7,92 kg dan bobot  umur 365 hari 104,66±11,72 kg.  Sapi betina memiliki bobot lahir 13,88±1,32 kg, bobot umur 205 hari 64,38 ± 10,36 kg dan bobot umur 365 hari 90,29±11,95 kg. Sapi Aceh umur satu hari memiliki lingkar dada, panjang badan dan tinggi pundak berturut-turut  55,41 cm, 46,16 cm  dan 55,22 cm pada sapi jantan serta 55,87 cm, 46,83 cm, dan 55,74 cm pada sapi betina. Sapi aceh umur 365 hari memiliki ukuran lingkar dada, panjang badan dan tinggi pundak berturut-turut 114,32 cm, 94,31 cm dan 92,93 cm pada sapi jantan serta 104,25 cm, 85,06 dan 87,71 cm pada sapi betina. Rata-rata penampilan produksi sapi aceh di BPTU Indrapuri  berpotensi menjadi ternak unggul berdasarkan kriteria SNI.Kata Kunci: sapi aceh, penampilan produksi, bobot badan, ukuran tubuhABSTRACTThis study aimed to evaluate the productive performance of aceh cattle at Indrapuri Breeding Center for Superior Livestock and Forage. At 365 days of age, male aceh cattle had the chest circumference, body length, and shoulder height of 114.32 cm, 94.31 cm, and 92.93 cm, respectively, while female aceh cattle were 104.25 cm, 85.06 cm, and 87.71 cm, respectively. The average productive performance of aceh cattle at Indrapuri Breeding Center for Superior Livestock and Forage has the potential to become superior cattle based on the criteria of Indonesian National Standard.Keywords: aceh cattle, performance, body weight, body size
