Abstract The aims of this study were to examine the slaughter weight, the percentage of apparent carcasses and the conformation index of carcasses of local sheep fed indigofera sp. as a substitute for commercial concentrates with different levels. The research method was an experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experiment was in vivo in 18 sheep fed different level of indigofera sp, P0 treatment being a basal ration as a control consisting of concentrate (K) and elephant grass (RG) with a ratio of 80: 20%. P1 was 40% K: 40% indigofera: 20% RG, and P2 was 30% K: 50% indigofera: 20% RG. Each treament was repeated 6 times.  Sheep were offered feed 4% of body weight on dry matter basis. slaughter weight data were analyzed using Ancova, SPSS program version 16 with initial body weight as covariate. Apparent carcass percentage data and carcass conformation index were analyzed with anava. The results of covariance analysis showed no significant difference (P > 0.05) amongst treatments. The average initial body weights of P0, P1 and P2 were 9.58 ± 1.68, 10.58 ± 3.09 and 9.28 ± 1.91 kg, respectively. after receiving treatment for 70 days the slaughter weights for P0, P1 and P2 were 15.57 ± 3.64, 13.58 ± 2.76, 12.58 ± 1.65 kg, respectively. The average consumption of dry matter for P0, P1 and P2 were 400.19 g / head / day, 401.20 g / head / day and 398.59 g / head / day, repectively.  The average percentage of apparent carcasses for P0: 40.61 ± 2.43%; P1: 34.33 ± 0.63% and P2: 34.03 ± 4.61%. Average carcass conformation index for P0: 0.47 ± 0.04; P1: 0.43 ± 0.01 and P2: 0.43 ± 0.01.  Indigofera sp had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the percentage of apparent carcass and carcass conformation index.  In Conclusion, indigofera sp. does not decrease local sheep productivity and can be used to replace concentrates as a source of protein. Keywords: Apparent carcass percentage; Index of carcass conformation; Indigofera sp.; Local sheep; Slaughter weight.   Abstrak Penelitian bertujuan mengkaji bobot potong, persentase karkas semu dan index konformasi karkas domba lokal yang diberi Indigofera sp. sebagai pengganti konsentrat komersial dengan level yang berbeda. Metode penelitian adalah eksperimental. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Penelitian berlangsung secara in vivo pada domba sebanyak 18 ekor, dengan perlakuan P0 adalah ransum basal sebagai kontrol yang terdiri dari konsentrat (K) dan rumput gajah (RG) dengan perbandingan 80%: 20%. P1 adalah 40% K: 40% indigofera: 20% RG, dan P2 adalah 30%K: 50% indigofera: 20%RG. Masing2 perlakuan diulang 6 kali. Pemberian pakan sebesar 4% bobot badan berdasarkan bahan kering.  Data bobot potong dianalisis dengan Ancova, program SPSS versi 16 dengan bobot badan awal sebagai covariat. Data persentase karkas semu dan index konformasi karkas dianalisis dengan anava. Hasil analisis covariansi menunjukkan tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) antar perlakuan. Rataan bobot badan awal P0, P1 dan P2 masing-masing adalah 9,58±1,68, 10,58±3,09 dan 9,28±1,91 kg, setelah mendapatkan perlakuan selama 70 hari bobot potong untuk P0, P1 dan P2 berturut-turut 15,57±3,64, 13,58±2,76 dan 12,58±1,65 kg. Rataan konsumsi bahan kering P0, P1 dan P2 berturut-turut adalah: 400,19g/ek/hr, 401,20g/ek/hr dan 398,59g/ek/hr Rataan persentase karkas semu pada P0: 40,61±2,43%, P1: 34,33±0,63% dan P2: 34,03±4,61%. Rataan index konformasi karkas untuk P0: 0,47±0,04, P1: 0,43±0,01 dan P2: 0,43±0,01. Pemberian Indigofera sp tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap persentase karkas semu maupun index konformasi karkas. Kesimpulan Indigofera sp. tidak menurunkan produktivitas ternak domba lokal, dan dapat digunakan untuk menggantikan konsentrat sebagai bahan sumber protein. The purpose of the research was a comparative study of the efficiency of feed use and the productivity of young sheep at different feeding levels, as well as clarifying the norms of metabolic energy and raw protein for growing young rams of Romanov breed with intensive rearing and fattening at the age of 3 to 10 months. Scientifi c and economic experiment has been carried out in the sheep breeding complex of the breeding farm in the OOO Farm “Pokrov” in the Zubtsovsky area in the Tver region. After weaning of sheep at the age of 3 months, 2 groups of young rams and 2 groups of young ewes have been formed, from twin litters per 15 heads in each. It has been found that the intensity of the growth of young rams was higher at both levels of rearing and fattening. The young rams of the 1st control group grew by 16,61 kg during the experimental feeding period, and the young ewes by 9,62 kg. In animals of the 2nd experimental group, the difference was 5,52 kg or 32,8 % in favor of the young rams. All indicators of the slaughter of young rams, depending on the level of feeding diff ered significantly. Thus, the difference in removable weight was 5,77 kg or 17,7 % in favor of animals of the 2nd experimental group. The difference between the groups by pre-slaughter weight was 5,74 kg or 19,2 % (P ≤ 0,001). By weight of the hot carcass, the sheep of the 2nd experimental group significantly exceeded the 1st control group by 2,82 kg or 21,3 % (P ≤ 0,01), by slaughter weight the difference was 3,97 kg or 29,0 % (P ≤ 0,01). The slaughter yield increased from 45,7 to 49,5 % or 3,8 abs.%. Age affects the efficiency of mutton production. Thus, the cost of 1 kg of mutton did not diff er from 7-month-old and 10–month-old rams, and feed expenditures increased significantly, therefore the prime-cost of mutton in older animals also increased, and the profitability of production decreased. Therefore, the slaughter of animals and the sale of mutton under intensive rearing is more effective at the age of 7 months.

Beef productivity of animals such indicators as breed, age of the animal at slaughter, pre-slaughter weight, and after slaughter – yield of carcass, slaughter weight and slaughter yield, morphological composition and the nature of fat deposition are characterized by. The purpose of the research was to study the influence of the pre-slaughter weight of steers of Aubrac breed on their beef traits. In order to carry out the research, three groups of animals have been formed per 15 animals in each. The 1st group included animals whose pre-slaughter weight was in the range of 425–440 kg, the 2nd group – 455–460 kg and the 3rd – 475–500 kg. The conditions of feeding and housing the animals were the same. The animals were housed in arched-type barns with free access to exercising areas. The results of the investigation of the beef productivity and quality of the Musculus longissimus in steers of Aubrac breed depending on the pre-slaughter live weight have been presented in the article. It has been found that animals with the pre-slaughter weight of more than 455 kg were characterized by higher beef traits. Steers with the pre-slaughter weight from 475 to 500 kg were characterized by higher slaughter and beef traits, in the samples of the Musculus longissimus they had a higher content of fat and amino acids. Samples of the Musculus longissimus of steers at slaughter of 455–460 kg were characterized by the higher caloric content, protein-quality indicator. It has been proposed according to the results of the research that the optimal slaughter for steers of Aubrac breed with the pre-slaughter weight is more than 455 kg.

Abstract This research was conducted to examine the effect of slaughter age and sex class to carcass characteristic from Red Brahman Crossbred Cattle. The research materials were 126 heads (grouped by slaughter age (<1,5 years, 2-2,5 years, and 3 years) and sex class (bull and steer)) with taken from KASA Company, rested for 12-24 hours, and slaughtered in AM FARM abattoir with halal MUI slaughter methods. The research method was used field experiment. The data of research were analysis by using Complete Randomized Factorial Design (2X3) and Duncan Multiple Range Test if there were differences. Parameters of carcass characteristic were slaughter weight, hot carcass weight, dressing percentage, carcass components percentage (meat, bone, fat), MBR, MFR, rib eyes area, and 12th fat thickness of ribs. The results of this research showed that slaughter age and sex class has significantly (P<0,05) affect to slaughter weight and hot carcass weight. Interactions of slaughter age and sex class has significantly (P<0,05) affect dressing percentage, bone and meat percentage, MBR and MFR, and has not significant (P>0,05) rib eyes area and fat thickness. From these results, it can be concluded that slaughter age and sex class affect carcass characteristics of Red Brahman Crossbred Cattle.

The deposition and distribution of buffalo body fats play a vital role in the quality of the buffalo carcass and are of great commercial value, since the carcass quality influences the profitability and consumer acceptability of ruminant meat. The current study examined the effect a mixture of 4% bypass fat and 26% concentrate supplementations in buffalo basal diet had on both the carcass characteristics and the proximate and fatty acid composition in longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL), supraspinatus (SS) and semitendinosus (ST) muscles of Murrah cross and swamp buffaloes. In addition, profit and loss analyses were performed to determine the profitability. This study employed a completely randomized 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two diets, two breeds and four replicates per treatment. A total of sixteen buffaloes (eight buffaloes per breed, bodyweight 98.64 ± 1.93 kg) were randomly assigned into two dietary groups. The first group was given Diet A, which consisted of 70% Brachiaria decumbens + 30% concentrate, whereas the second group was given Diet B, which consisted of 70% Brachiaria decumbens + 26% concentrate + 4% bypass fat. The buffaloes were fed for 730 days before slaughter. The results showed that supplemented bypass fat significantly (p < 0.05) increased the pre-slaughter weight, hot and cold carcass weights, meat:fat ratio, pH at 24 h, moisture and crude protein of LTL, ST and SS, the ether extract of LTL and ST and the meat fatty acid of C16:0, C16:1, C18:1, PUFA n-6/n-3 and total MUFA. The carcass yield and carcass fat percentages, the ash content in ST, the EE in the SS muscle and the meat fatty acid of C18:3, total PUFA n-3, UFA/SFA and PUFA/SFA were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased. Furthermore, Murrah cross showed a significantly (p < 0.05) higher pre-slaughter weight, hot and cold carcass weights, carcass bone percentage and total fatty acid, but a lower (p < 0.05) meat:bone ratio, ash of LTL and CP of LTL and ST when compared to swamp buffaloes. No significant changes were found in the proximate composition of different types of muscle, but the ST muscle revealed significantly high C14:0, C16:0 and C18:1, and the SS muscle had high C18:2 and total fatty acid (p < 0.05). Supplementing using bypass fat increased the cost of buffalo feeding but resulted in a higher revenue and net profit. In conclusion, the concentrate and bypass fat supplementations in the buffalo diet could alter the nutrient compositions of buffalo meat without a detrimental effect on carcass characteristics, leading to a higher profit.

Abstract Interest in meat quality and its fatty acid composition stems mainly from the need to find ways to produce healthier meat. In Puerto Rico, no documented information is available on the nutritional profile in the meat of lambs raised under local conditions (crossbred animals raised in heat stress and grazing naturalized pastures, NP). The quality of meat and fatty acid composition was evaluated, of 12 lambs grazed NP &gt; 8h, tropical grass hay and water ad libitum, 150g of concentrate (12% CP), and mineral blocks. Six animals were slaughtered at two live weight of 22 (SW1) or 35 (SW2) kg to determine the meat quality given by pH, color, nutrient content, and the fatty acid composition in the Longissimus dorsi muscle. The data was analyzed using a completely randomized design with two treatments and six repetitions. SW1 and SW2 had similar pH (5.57 vs. 5.73), but lambs at SW1 displayed lower (P &lt; 0.01) a* value than those slaughtered at SW2 (11.18 vs 13.57), but L* (38.91 vs 37.56) and b* (10.72 vs 10.67) values were similar. On both slaughter weight moisture (75.63 vs 74.51), ash (4.10 vs 3.34), crude protein (24.36 vs 25.12), and crude fat (2.30 vs 2.01) percentage of the meat was similar. The total lipid content (0.953 vs 2.25), saturated fatty acids (34.68 vs 42.98), and monounsaturated fatty acid (28.36 vs 37.28) of lambs at SW1 was lower than those at SW2, but n-6 and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (18.74 vs 8.57and 6.61 vs 2.88, respectively) were higher (P &lt; 0.05). The n-6/n-3 ratio was similar for both SW groups (2.84 vs 2.96). Differences in individual fatty acid content due to the slaughter weight were observed. In conclusion, the meat quality and the fatty acid composition of the Longissimus dorsi were affected by slaughter weight of lambs grazing naturalized pastures.

Проведен анализ качественных характеристик мясной продуктивности бычков абердин ангусской породы в зависимости от типов телосложения. Научно-хозяйственный опыт проводился в одном из хозяйств Карачаево-Черкесской Республики в 2020—2021 годах. Из потомства быков крупного (I группа) и мелкого типа (II группа) абердин ангусской породы было сформировано 2 группы по 14 голов. По окончании контрольного выращивания провели контрольный убой бычков в 18-месячном возрасте. Установлено, что бычки I группы достоверно (Р<0,01) превосходили по живой массе аналогов II группы. Молодняк I группы имел более высокую (на 31,4 кг) предубойную массу и более тяжелые туши по сравнению с бычками II группы на 28,3 кг (Р<0,01). По убойной массе бычки I группы превосходили сверстников II на 26,5 кг (Р<0,01), а по убойному выходу — соответственно на 1,98 абс.%. При обвалке молодняка I группы было получено мякоти больше на 9,9 кг (Р<0,01) по сравнению с данными по обвалке туш бычков II группы. Химический анализ различных проб мяса показал, что туши бычков I группы содержали несколько меньше жира по сравнению с тушами молодняка II группы, как общего количества в средних пробах, так и внутримышечного в пробах из мускулов. Различия между группами по другим показателям были незначительными. Наибольшее количество жира было в отрубах, дающих лучшие сорта мяса, — бедренном и спинно-грудном, несколько меньше содержалось в лопаточной части, дающей мясо второго сорта. По влагосвязывающей способности, цвету и нежности мяса различий между группами не обнаружено. The analysis of the qualitative characteristics of the meat productivity of the Aberdeen Angus bull calves, depending on the body types, is carried out. Scientific and economic experience was conducted in one of the farms of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in 2020-2021. From the offspring of large (group I) and small type bulls (group II) of the Aberdeen Angus breed, 2 groups of 14 heads were formed. At the end of the control cultivation, a control slaughter of steers was carried out at the age of 18 months. It was found that the bulls of group I were significantly (P<0.01) superior in live weight to the analogues of group II. The young animals of group I had a higher pre-slaughter weight (by 31.4 kg) and heavier carcasses compared to the steers of group II by 28.3 kg (P<0.01). According to the slaughter weight, the bulls of the first group exceeded the peers of the second by 26.5 kg (P<0.01), and according to the slaughter yield — by 1.98 abs.%, respectively. When deboning young animals of the first group, more pulp was obtained by 9.9 kg (P<0.01) compared with the data on deboning the carcasses of bulls of the second group. Chemical analysis of various meat samples showed that the carcasses of group I steers contained slightly less fat compared to the carcasses of young animals of group II, both total in average samples and intramuscular in muscle samples. The differences between the groups on other indicators were insignificant. The greatest amount of fat was in the cuts that give the best varieties of meat — femoral and dorso-thoracic, slightly less was contained in the scapular part, which gives the second grade meat. No differences were found between the groups in terms of the moisture binding ability, color and tenderness of the meat.

Background: Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is a highly valued plant grown in tropical and subtropical countries. Moringa has a high amount of crude protein, a well-balanced amino acid profile, vitamins and minerals and fewer quantities of antinutritive factors. Methods: Eighteen growing Deccani lambs of uniform body weight (14.22±1.5 kg) and age were randomly allotted to three treatment groups viz., 100 per cent groundnut cake (T1), 75% groundnut cake+ 25% Moringa oliefera leaf meal (T2) and 50% groundnut cake+ 50% M. oliefera leaf meal (T3) as a protein source in the concentrate mixture. The experiment was conducted for 90 days. Result: No significant difference was found in the fortnightly body weights of the lambs from 1st to 6th fortnights among three dietary groups. Total weight gain and Average Daily gain (ADG) were significant (P less than 0.01) among the treatment groups whereas DMI (kg/day), per 100 kg and FCR was non-significant. The digestibility coefficients (%) of all nutrients were non-significant (P greater than 0.05) except the NFE. Pre-slaughter weight, empty body weight, hot carcass weights and dressing percent on pre-slaughter weight and empty body weight were comparable among the three groups. Results of the present study indicated that inclusion of 25% Moringa oleifera leaf meal in concentrate mixture proved to be superior and improved the growth performance, digestibility of nutrients and carcass traits without any adverse effects on experimental lambs.

It was aimed to evaluate anti-GnRH vaccine efficiency on productive characteristics, seminal performance, size, and histology of testicles of lambs submitted to immunocastration. Twenty contemporary Texel lambs were evaluated, being 10 animals received two doses of 1 mL of anti-GnRH vaccine and 10 received two doses of 1 mL of saline, with an interval of 30 days. Seminal characteristics, weight and histological cut for the testicles, productive performance, and blood parameters were analyzed. Andrological monitoring was carried out every 30 days. All animals were kept on pasture of Urochloa spp. receiving daily supplementation protein-energetic by 90 days. There was effect of immunocastration on slaughter weight (44.3 vs. 48.3 kg), total gain (9.9 vs. 10.3 kg), daily gain (104.5 vs. 108.9 g/day), and feed conversion (5.83 vs. 5.97) respectively to immunocastrated and intact lambs. There was immunocastration effect on testicle weight (0.09 vs. 0.35 g), motility (4.5 vs. 61.0%), vigor (0.40 vs. 3.00), volume (0.09 vs. 0.74 mL) and swirling (0.20 vs. 2.70) in the third semen collection. Immunocastration through two doses of 1 mL of anti-GnRH vaccine with a 30-day interval between doses, causes infertility in sheep and can be adopted for lambs.
