The paper presents the results of a study on improving the safety of navigation, during maneuvers in restricted areas, with the use of an augmented virtuality navigation information display. The augmented virtuality solution has been developed by one of the authors and has been described in a previous paper. A set of simulation scenarios has been proposed to study various maneuvers with different types of ships. Models of existing areas and existing ships have been used so the study can be recreated and reevaluated with different types of interfaces. The study is focused on comparing safe maneuvering areas with different information sources used. The results showed that augmented virtuality solution can indeed decrease the safe maneuvering areas and thus increase the safety of navigation for maneuvers in restricted areas.

Well known long-persistent phosphorous strontium aluminates were synthesized by conventional combustion method in a furnace at about 600oC. By incorporating the obtained phosphorous strontium aluminates into organic host polystyrene, we prepared the organic-inorganic composite material (i.e., phosphor-polystyrene) which could be cast into flexible and green-light- emitting films. The morphology of the obtained phosphorous strontium aluminates and the phosphorescence of the organic-inorganic composite films were characterized with the scanning electron microscopy and the fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. Our results show that the organic-inorganic composite films can be used as green-light- emitting roll-able screens in the industry of information displays.

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to examine how pilots respond to conflicting information on the flight deck. In this study, 108 airline, corporate, and general aviation pilots completed an online questionnaire reporting weather, traffic, and navigation information conflicts experienced on the flight deck, including which information sources they trusted and acted on. Results indicated that weather information conflicts are most commonly experienced, and typically between a certified source in the panel and an uncertified electronic flight bag application. Most participants (a) trusted certified systems due to their accuracy, reliability, recency, and knowledge about the source, and (2) acted on the certified system due to trust, being trained and required to use it, and its indicating a more hazardous situation.

The preliminary research experiments described herein were aimed to choose an appropriate mixed reality technology for the construction of navigational information display method to be used onboard ships in restricted waters. The method assumes a possibly faithful representation of the environment and the actual navigational situation on a spatial decision support system (SDSS) interface during ship navigation and maneuvering in restricted waters. The paper also presents the architecture and process of building a SDSS, where the method of navigational information display using augmented virtuality was applied.

Only two levels of adaptation are used in the most present human engineering projects of information display systems—total and contingent. At the same time experimental and theoretical analysis of the statistical relationships between structures of information display and values of psychological factors of complexity of operators' problem solving shows that three additional levels of adaptation are necessary. There are group, individual and individually—operative levels. Some mathematical methods of evaluation of optimal distribution of information displays between individuals operators, combinations of man with different individual characteristics in one operators group are worked out.

Information displays influence decision processes by facilitating some decision strategies while hindering others. Component characteristics of displays, such as the form, organization, and sequence of information, influence decision processes through an adaptive mechanism whereby a decision maker balances the desire to maximize accuracy against the desire to minimize effort. Variations in the information display lead to changes in the anticipated effort and anticipated accuracy of each available strategy and, therefore, provide an incentive for decision makers to use different decision processes. Research in this area can provide guidance regarding the use of displays and other decision-aiding approaches.

Rapid development has achieved in treating tumor to stop malignant cell growth and metastasis in the past decade. Numerous researches have emerged to increase potency and efficacy with novel methods for drug delivery. The main objective of this literature review was to illustrate the impact of current new targeting methods to other previous delivering systems to select the most appropriate method in cancer therapy. This review first gave a brief summary of cancer structure and highlighted the main roles of targeting systems. Different types of delivering systems have been addressed in this literature review with focusing on the latest carrier derived from malarial protein. The remarkable advantages and main limitations of the later have been also discussed. PubMed and Science Direct were the main search engines that have been used as information sources to prepare this review. Articles related to cancer targeting system, active and passive processes, current nanoparticles, antibody carriers, and current novel cancer carriers were used as sources in this review. Important points from many references published in the last decade (2008-2018) were selected and included. Several targeting methods were introduced to enhance the efficacy and tolerability of the toxic drug by active and passive processes, but there is still no conclusive carrier without certain drawbacks. A combination of targeting methods probably shows the most appropriate choice for increasing selectivity and safety of anticancer drugs via reducing the concentration of carriers used.

In 2019, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) prescribed guidelines to standardize the user interface (UI) of navigation equipment such as radio detection and ranging (RADAR) and the electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS), which mandate the unification of various terminologies and icons to improve usability. However, comprehensive studies on the operability and standardization of global positioning system (GPS) plotters, which are auxiliary equipment installed across various domestic and commercial vessels for navigational purposes, have not been conducted. Therefore, we performed a case study to identify the user requirements for standardizing the UI of GPS plotters in South Korea. Additionally, we conducted a survey to ascertain the frequency of use of the navigational functions in a GPS plotter, in which, several deck officers and captains participated. The frequently used navigational functions that were subsequently identified confirmed the need for standardization of the UI. Furthermore, the users requested the standardization of the menus of these functions using Korean terminologies. Hence, we attempted to derive standardized items that can be applied to both the functions of the GPS plotters and the navigation information obtained, which can contribute to the improvement of the UI across the different types of plotters.

In this article, we examine the correlates of fear of violence in the cross-media landscape. The study draws on the Finnish National Crime Victim Survey ( n = 6,141, respondents aged 15–74 years). First, we examine from what information and media sources respondents receive information on violent crime. We then examine how consumption of different types of media and information sources on violent crime associates with the contemporary experience of fear of street violence, avoidance behavior due to threat of violence, and perceived threat of terrorism to oneself. We also examine whether this association remains when age, gender, education, past victimization, and economic strain are adjusted for.
