The public housing built under the Franco regime in Spain (1939–1975) brought about the largest urban growth in the country’s recent history. It shares similar characteristics with other public housing built in Europe during the 20th century, and today it houses a predominantly multicultural and socioeconomically precarious population. This study analyses and evaluates three estates that make up a new urban axis in the city of Murcia. The objective is to evaluate the benefits and shortcomings of these developments in order to establish rehabilitation plans, which will seek to improve the lives of their inhabitants and enhance their experience of the urban area from environmental, functional and interactive perspectives. The methodology used for this study is based on the application of three systems of indicators in order to obtain a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of each neighborhood. The quantitative analysis evaluates the urban area in terms of environmental sustainability, while the two qualitative systems explore the neighborhoods’ functionality and ability to instil a sense of attachment, and therefore responsibility, among their inhabitants. In its conclusions, the article provides concrete lines of action for updating and regenerating these residential areas that form a significant part of the city of Murcia.

The walkability approach is essential to ensure the connectivity among space in the urban area. The design should be appropriate, safety, maximize and capable of reaching every inch of the spaces, just by walking. Good connectivity must allow people to walk freely and accessible in many ways. People have great chances to meet each other or having potential outdoor activities without any challenges. This study aims to measure the user perception of the existing spaces in the urban public housing environment that been covered and uncovered with the walkability linkages. The objectives of this study are to identify the existing pedestrian linkages in the study area; to investigate the user perception of the existing walkability system in the study area, and finally to conclude and provide a better solution for better walkability opportunity among residents to access the public park.© 2016. A major key indicator for assessing the quality of an urban residential neighborhood is the building condition. A good building condition adds value to a neighborhood in terms of aesthetics, safety, security and comfort. The Rivers State Government has in 1986 - 1998 built 12 residential estates for her staff members in the study area. The responsibility of maintenance of the buildings has been left to the owner occupiers of those houses. What is the state of those houses which has been built for over 30years? It is on this note that this study is poised to ascertain the physical condition of buildings within the public housing estates in Port Harcourt municipality. This study is a quantitative research that belongs to the class called “descriptive research design”. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 108 respondents (household heads) from the six selected housing estates. Questionnaire, physical observation and digital camera were the tools used for data collection. Analysis of findings was presented descriptively in tables, charts and percentages. Among the twelve public housing estates identified within the study area, the simple random sampling method was used to select and study six of the estates which are: 1. Aggrey Housing Estate, 2. Marine Base Govt. Housing Estate, 3. Abuloma housing estate phase, 4. Ndoki Housing Estate, 5. Elekahia housing estate and, 6. Khana Street Housing Estate. The research findings show the physical condition of buildings within the public housing estates, 81.5% of the buildings has good foundation, 92.6% of the windows are in good condition, 95.4% of the buildings have water system. 65% of the respondents considered the overall housing condition of the estates as good (needs no repair) while 35% saw the housing condition as fairly good (needs minor repair).

The present study aims to grasp the car ownership characteristics of households in the sub-urban area in Makassar City, Indonesia. The study considers some exogenous characteristics of the households, such house types, family size, income, motorcycle ownership, trip number, and worker number. To construct the relationship between those characteristics and the car ownership, we applied the multinomial logit model approach. This study surveyed seven residential areas in the sub-urban area of the city. The survey conducted an interviewing method using a questionnaire sheet. The survey respondents as representative of the households, which selected randomly from the residential areas. The results show that the goodness of fit of the car ownership model is acceptable enough. Further, all of the exogenous variables significantly influence the households in car ownership. We expected that the results provide a basis for further studies such time valuation of car riders, mode choice model of the households, etc.

Este artigo analisa os conflitos decorrentes da resposta do governo da cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes/RJ às consequências dos desastres: o programa de habitação popular “Morar Feliz”. Realizaram-se levantamentos bibliográficos, coleta de dados em órgãos públicos e entrevistas com moradores reassentados. Os resultados indicam a existência de conflito de interesses que opõem os moradores que reivindicam ficar no bairro em que residem, ou próximo a ele, e o governo municipal, que promove a expansão urbana em áreas com insuficiência de infraestrutura urbana.Palavras-Chave: desastres ambientais, habitação popular, risco.RESUMENLos desastres relacionados con el agua que ocurrieron en Brasil profundizaron y ampliaron las investigaciones sobre estos fenómenos. The sustainable development of the city involves the solving of economic, environmental and social problems through the modernization of various spheres of the urban economy. The modernization of related and interrelated spheres of the city’s economy should be based on an integrated approach. The hospitality and public infrastructure are such spheres. Their relationship is due to both technical and technological features and the possibilities of achieving the goals of sustainable development of the city (the hospitality sector contributes to the growth of openness of the city and the life support and environmental sustainability of the city directly depends on the state and development of public infrastructure). The priorities of the modernization of public infrastructure and hospitality for sustainable development of the city have been determined. The condition of the public infrastructure and hospitality in cities of Ukraine was analyzed from the point of view of modernization for sustainable development. The experience of modernization of public infrastructure and hospitality in sustainable European cities (including improving energy efficiency, strengthening environmental safety, creating a barrier-free environment) has been studied. The technical, technological, financial and institutional features that determine the feasibility of modernizing the public infrastructure and hospitality based on the principles of an integrated approach have been determined. The recommendations of the mechanism of public-private partnership using in the implementation of projects for the modernization of public utilities infrastructure and hospitality of the city have been developed. The decision-making tools for managing resources have been proposed for the justification and implementation of a project to modernize public infrastructure and hospitality based on a comprehensive approach.  Key Words: city, sustainable development, public infrastructure, hospitality, modernization, integrated approach.

In this paper it is developed a location model for the infrastructures dedicated to non-motorized movements by bike in Oradea city, using ArcGIS geographic and information system [3]. They are taken into consideration the movements made by the target people – alternating movements (from home to school) and optional movements (made for recreation), the densities in residential areas, the type of the city arteries and the mobility need of the target people (in this case – young people aged between 15 and 25) in order to design two structures of the transport infrastructure networks (one for the alternating movements and the other for the optional movements), structures which will be realized on the actual frame of the existing transport infrastructure in Oradea city. Using Dijkstra algorithm, the minimal routes for the movements related to the alternating mobility, but also for the movements specific to the optional mobility are determined. Further on the most used arteries in the two structures of urban infrastructure networks are determined. The paper suggests as a solution the structure of the network for the non-motorized movements and also those arteries that must be used for its development, that guarantee gains for the target people (time), for the main operators who exploit the motorized systems, for the local budget of the local municipalities (less funds to sustain the public services) and especially for the environment and people’s health (attenuation of noxious and phonic pollution, reduction of the accidents’ number and health improvement).

<p>A previous study commissioned by the League of Cities of the Philippines and funded by the United Nations Environment Programme showed that Sorsogon, an emerging city in the Philippines, does not possess enough data to enact sound policies that balance economic growth and environmental sustainability. To help the city make quality policy decisions, the author designed a knowledge management framework that city leaders can use. The said framework was based on the classic works of Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995) and Davenport and Prusak (1998), as well as publications of the Asian Productivity Organization on knowledge management in the public sector. The author also provided examples of specific strategies that Sorsogon City can use to operationalize the framework.</p>

Urban area will not be separated from the diversity that is owned by the region. A wide variety of diverse elements or objects (buildings, monuments, squares, signs, or the historic old town area, etc.) will give the characteristic features or the identity of a city. The presence of identity on a city course will provide an overview of the place of the region and made the difference with other places. This research was conducted in the road corridor Pemuda, district of Medan Maimun with qualitative methods of observation to the study site for the study using elements of diversity with the aim to discover the diversity of research sites and how with regard to the identity of the city. From the observation there is diversity in terms of different land uses (the function of the building), building typology, activities and others thus creating an identity that can be recognized by the public.
