This paper presents the concept of check and balance approach in teachıng, learning and assessment processes with the development of a graphical interface tool to solve an advanced wastewater treatment design problem. The developed graphical interface improves the quality of teaching, learning, and the assessment of both, understanding the calculation approaches, as well as understanding the concepts. The tool acts as a calculator or a simulator of a unit converter, population equivalent, designing sewerage systems and selected unit processes of advanced wastewater treatment. A close-ended survey assessment was conducted with a total of 49 respondents who were the registered students for the subject of advanced wastewater treatment. About 79% of respondents agreed that it was hard to score a high mark in the advanced wastewater treatment exam. However, 100% of respondents agreed that the tool could help them to accelerate their understanding of the subject topic. All things considered, the findings of this study show that the developed tool is a potential tool that can aid in the teaching, learning, and assessment processes of any difficult subject that is taught in higher-learning institutions.

The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that encourage students to choose Zakat Accounting as their elective course at one of the Higher Learning Institutions in Malaysia. Primary data for the study were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from three classes. Overall, a total of 59 respondents were engaged as the sample of this study. The findings revealed that the factors influencing the students' selection were personal interest in the subject matter, opportunity to learn a new area of accounting, ease of subject matter, quality of the lecturer teaching, and religious belief. The talk given by the Faculty was regarded as the most convincing source of information for the students in selecting the elective course. Although this study only focuses on one university in Malaysia, it could become a catalyst for future studies in the area of Zakat Accounting. Despite the limitation, it still provides some insightful findings of the students’ acceptance determinants of an Islamic course in a university. In conclusion, this study hopes to provide invaluable input to the management of the Higher-Level Institutions on factors to consider before offering any new courses to students.

In most learning Institutions in Nigeria, the quality of teaching delivered by Lecturers/Teachers are not usually given the attention it requires and where such is done, it is often done in a crude way using semi-automated approaches. This research is conceived to examine how Information and Communications Technology could be employed to collect data for the assessment of quality of teaching delivered by Teachers/Lecturers in the Institutions of higher learning in Nigeria. To achieve this, this research studies a University of Technology in the South-East of Nigeria, conceives and designs an object-oriented model for harnessing the relevant data needed to conduct such assessment into a central database. This system can be used to submit feedbacks on the performances of the Lecturers and also enable educational administrators view statistics of submissions. As the data is collated in a central database, analytical tools could be employed in conducting further analysis on Lecturer performance evaluation to drive advanced decision making.

Many modifications have been introduced in the field of medical education in recent past with a shift from didactic to more student focused teaching strategies. Modular study system for final year MBBS students was introduced in the subject of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2018 session. Objectives: To determine the students′ perception about modular teaching and various instructional strategies through feedback in the subject of Obstetrics and Gynecology at undergraduate level. Study Design: Cross sectional study. Setting: University Medical and Dental College, Faisalabad. Period: 1st January to 30th October 2018. Material & Methods: Eight modules were designed in the subject of obstetrics and gynecology for final year MBBS students. In order to ascertain the quality of teaching and to monitor the effectiveness of teaching methodologies, feedback was obtained.  A written questionnaire was designed to collect feedback. Interpretation of collected data was performed on SPSS 20. Results: Total 136 students participated in study by giving back properly filled questionnaire. Modular teaching was appreciated as an effective method by 93.4% students. Case based teaching, small group sessions and problem based learning were considered most favored teaching methods (97.7%, 97.1% and 94.85%) respectively by the students. Conclusion: Modular teaching was found to be an interesting and a useful teaching - learning experience by majority of students. Almost all students showed positive acceptance for various teaching methods. Students’ feedback was also useful in identifying course components that need improvement so that appropriate measures can be made to improve the overall quality and effectiveness of the course in future.

The wastewater from the urban commune of Mhaya (Morocco) was rejected directly into Ben Kazza river without treatment. This situation caused a widespread, massive, varied and insidious pollution of the environment. A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) has been constructed in 2010 in order to preserve the nature surrounding the center. Called Oxylag, the plant has a nominal capacity of 6000 Equivalent Inhabitants. It is based on intensive treatment and it is considered as pilot and unique in Morocco. The treatment is consisting on three basins ventilated by insufflation of artificial air and a basin of finishing. The present study aim is the assessment of the purification performance of this plant during 2012, through the analysis of the pollution parameters (COD, BOD5 and TSS), which is the subject of the Moroccan standards on the quality of domestic wastewater defined by the decree Number 1607-06 of 25 July 2006. The results show a high purification performance in terms of carbon pollution removal (93% for BOD5, 79% for COD and 64% for TSS).

English language is a course that must be offered in a university syllabus. It is a course that all majors must study and learn, apart from the students who are in the English major. In addition to being a subject in universities, English is also a language. Languages have linguistic nature, which appears to be the same to English language. It is important to determine whether the value of integration is reasonable in the arrangement and planning in the subject content of English language course in the universities. Similarly, it is also necessary to find out whether this planning is reasonable in the curriculum structure. This paper mainly expounds the current situation of English teaching in higher learning institutions such as colleges and universities, the connotation of the value of integration of orientation and realization of English language for reference.

In December 1985, the City of Columbus, OH initiated a $220 million program for upgrading capacity and treatment from secondary to advanced wastewater treatment (AWT). The two plants (4990 L/s and 2630 L/s) were required to be fully operational by July 1988. The existing plants had a history of bulking sludges and it was necessary that design/construction proceed concurrently with a laboratory 18-month sequencing batch reactor (SBR) study to evaluate bulking sludge control while producing the required effluent quality of CBOD5, TSS and NH4N of 8,16 and 1 mg/L, respectively. Completion was on schedule and full-scale results paralleled those produced by the SBR sludge. Average effluent concentrations from the larger plant for the 2.5 years of operation were 2 mg/L CBOD5, 5.5 mg/L TSS, 1.5 mg/L TKN, 0.13 mg/L NH4N and 1.1 mg/L TP. The problems resulting from unexpectedly high sludge yields and inadequate sludge transport capacity in the 61 mø clarifiers are discussed and resolutions presented.
