The laminated rotor Induction Machine (IM), with its simple construction and manufacturing, robustness, ease of control and comparatively lower cost remains by far the most utilized electromechanical energy converter. At very high speeds, traditionally its use is considered to be limited to the previously established operational limits of 2.5 × 105 rpm√kW, beyond which the surface Permanent Magnet (PM) Machine and the solid rotor Induction Machine become the machines available for consideration. The aforesaid limits are derived from the use of classic materials. This paper reviews the recent developments in electrical steels and copper alloys and translates these into the resulting performance entitlement and operational limits through a case study involving a marine application, for which an existing rare-earth PM machine is in use. It is concluded that with novel materials, laminated rotor induction machines can be operated up to 6 × 105 rpm√kW, thus opening the use of the rare-earth free Induction Machine for a wider application range previously limited to PM machines.

The lecture reviews processes and mechanisms of powder compaction in dies, by cold or hot isostatic pressing, and by various other methods. The review will also include the hot and cold forging of powder preforms. Key problems of the main processes will be discussed, such as mass flow in the powder bed during compaction, which is required to achieve homogeneous density distribution in a part, or the role of powder lubrication. Applications of powder compaction are described using examples from such areas as the manufacture of sintered machine parts, high-strength automotive parts made by powder forging, the fabrication of mill shapes from powder (e.g., high speed steel or stainless steel tubing), and the production of aircraft engine parts by hot isostatic pressing.

In several industrial sectors, induction machines are being replaced with permanent magnet based alternatives, owing to the potential for higher power density and efficiency. However, high-speed applications feature a wide flux-weakening region, where advanced induction machines could bring benefits in terms of system-level optimization. This paper gives an overview the technological challenges for high-speed drives with induction machines, materials, simulations and future challenges for the power electronics in these applications. The target application is a high-speed induction machine for a naval turbocharging system. The comparison with permanent magnet synchronous machines will demonstrate how the extended flux weakening operation effectively allows for a weight reduction of the overall system.

Background: The new progress in electronic devices has provided a great opportunity for advancing electrochemical instruments by which we can more easily solve many problems of interest for trace analysis of compounds, with a high degree of accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and selectivity. On the other hand, in recent years, there is a significant growth in the application of nanomaterials for the construction of nanosensors due to enhanced chemical and physical properties arising from discrete modified nanomaterial-based electrodes or microelectrodes. Objective: Combination of the advanced electrochemical system and nanosensors make these devices very suitable for the high-speed analysis, as motioning and portable devices. This review will discuss the recent developments and achievements that have been reported for trace measurement of drugs and toxic compounds for environment, food and health application.

: Cr12MoV hardened steel is widely used in the manufacturing of stamping die because of its high strength, high hardness, and good wear resistance. As a kind of mainstream cutting technology, high-speed machining has been applied in the machining of Cr12MoV hardened steel. Based on the review of a large number of literature, the development of high-speed machining of Cr12MoV hardened steel was summarized, including the research status of the saw-tooth chip, cutting force, cutting temperature, tool wear, machined surface quality, and parameters optimization. The problems that exist in the current research were discussed and the directions of future research were pointed out. It can promote the development of high-speed machining of Cr12MoV hardened steel.
