Ways to address the increasing global health workforce shortage include improving the occupational health and safety of health workers, particularly those in high-risk, low-resource settings. The World Health Organization and International Labour Organization designed HealthWISE, a quality improvement tool to help health workers identify workplace hazards to find and apply low-cost solutions. However, its implementation had never been systematically evaluated. We, therefore, studied the implementation of HealthWISE in seven hospitals in three countries: Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Through a multiple-case study and thematic analysis of data collected primarily from focus group discussions and questionnaires, we examined the enabling factors and barriers to the implementation of HealthWISE by applying the integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (i-PARiHS) framework. Enabling factors included the willingness of workers to engage in the implementation, diverse teams that championed the process, and supportive senior leadership. Barriers included lack of clarity about how to use HealthWISE, insufficient funds, stretched human resources, older buildings, and lack of incident reporting infrastructure. Overall, successful implementation of HealthWISE required dedicated local team members who helped facilitate the process by adapting HealthWISE to the workers’ occupational health and safety (OHS) knowledge and skill levels and the cultures and needs of their hospitals, cutting across all constructs of the i-PARiHS framework.

In South Africa employees are protected by various pieces of legislation. Section 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa 1996 provides for a right to fair labour practice. In its preamble the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 (hereafter referred to as the LRA) states that the purpose of the Act is to advance economic development, social justice, labour peace and democratisation of the workplace. The LRA also states that one of its objectives is to give effect to and regulate the fundamental rights conferred by section 27 of the Constitution. The Occupational Health and Safety Act as amended by the Occupational Health and Safety Amendment Act 181 of 1993 provides for the health and safety of persons at work and for the health and safety of persons in connection with the use of plant and machinery. The LRA provides for dismissal for incapacity and dismissals for misconduct. It also differentiates between the two. The LRA provides for both substantive and procedural fairness when dismissing an employee for incapacity and misconduct. This paper will examine the rationale behind differentiating between dismissal for drunkenness and dismissal for alcoholism.

Abstract Background Health workers are crucial to the successful implementation of infection prevention and control strategies to limit the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 at healthcare facilities. The aim of our study was to determine SARS-CoV-2 infection prevention and control knowledge and attitudes of frontline health workers in four provinces of South Africa as well as explore some elements of health worker and health facility infection prevention and control practices. Methods A cross-sectional study design was utilised. The study population comprised both clinical and non-clinical staff working in casualty departments, outpatient departments, and entrance points of health facilities. A structured self-administered questionnaire was developed using the World Health Organization guidance as the basis for the knowledge questions. COVID-19 protocols were observed during data collection. Results A total of 286 health workers from 47 health facilities at different levels of care participated in the survey. The mean score on the 10 knowledge items was 6.3 (SD = 1.6). Approximately two-thirds of participants (67.4%) answered six or more questions correctly while less than a quarter of all participants (24.1%) managed to score eight or more. A knowledge score of 8 or more was significantly associated with occupational category (being either a medical doctor or nurse), age (< 40 years) and level of hospital (tertiary level). Only half of participants (50.7%) felt adequately prepared to deal with patients with COVD-19 at the time of the survey. The health workers displaying attitudes that would put themselves or others at risk were in the minority. Only 55.6% of participants had received infection prevention and control training. Some participants indicated they did not have access to medical masks (11.8%) and gloves (9.9%) in their departments. Conclusions The attitudes of participants reflected a willingness to engage in appropriate SARS-CoV-2 infection prevention and control practices as well as a commitment to be involved in COVID-19 patient care. Ensuring adequate infection prevention and control training for all staff and universal access to appropriate PPE were identified as key areas that needed to be addressed. Interim and final reports which identified key shortcomings that needed to be addressed were provided to the relevant provincial departments of health.

World Health Organization (WHO) has shown Corona Virus Disease 2019 as a pandemic. The spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia has now spread across locations and across countries, accompanied by an increase in the number of problems and/or the number of deaths. To overcome the spread of Covid-19, both the government and business actors have made various efforts so that the spread of the Covid-19 virus can be prevented and overcome, especially the spread of the Covid-19 virus in office areas by implementing new normal rules in the workplace through the Occupational Safety and Health program. Based on the results of observations from one of the lead managers of PT Maruki International Indonesia, who said that there had been cases against some of his employees who were suspected of being suspected of having COVID-19, we as authors consider it necessary to raise this issue to be investigated for input for the company so that it can be used to implement the implementation. Occupational Health and Safety program against suspected cases of the Covid-19 virus among PT Maruki International Indonesia employees. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Program on the incidence of suspected Covid-19 virus among employees of PT Maruki International Indonesia. This type of research is quantitative research with a design approach cross sectional study. The sample used is 150 employees from a population of 241 employees. Collecting quantitative data using a checklist and analyzed by univariate, bivariate. Thus, it can be said that the Behavioral Improving Body Immunity variable affects the variable incidence of suspected covid-19. It is hoped that with the results of this study the government and related company management can provide a policy to deal with the spread of the corona virus in the workplace. Keywords: Activities of wearing masks; hand washing habits; efforts to maintain distance and suspected cases of covid-19.

Background: OHSAS 18001:2007 is management system of occupational health and safety international standard which includes the structure of the organization, the planning activities, responsibility, procedure, the process and resources to manage K3 .OHSAS have a purpose for protection against the workers from unwanted things arising from work environment, or activity work itself, it have an impact on safety and health workers, and so as not to cause much loss for from accidents work have image bad a company that can lower image company. Purpose: This study aimed to understand the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety assessment series (OHSAS) 18001:2007 in PT. Surya Besindo Sakti. Methods: The research used descriptive qualitative research type and design. Test the validity of data using technique triagulation method. Result: PT. Surya Besindo Sakti still meets the minimum requirements of the application of Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001: 2007. With findings of minor incompatibilities 6 and 1 OFI (Opportunity For Improvement) findings. Conclusion: The company is expected to continue to commit to run the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001: 2007 for corporate vision and mission to be achieved, objective must be monitored its achievement every month by each department and ensure all procedures used in the company reviewed and implemented consistently.
