The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), a public health emergency of international concern, has made healthcare staff preparation and the nurturing of high-quality and adequate nursing professionals critical issues. This study aimed to explore registered nurses’ competence in nursing care and their intention to stay in their current workplace. In this study, participants who had graduated from different nursing education systems were recruited. The results indicated that nurses’ level of commitment to the workplace and clinical stress were positively correlated with the experience of working with patients. Stepwise regression analysis revealed the following significant predictors for intention to stay: clinical stress, frequency of caring for people with infections, and taking a course on infectious nursing. The novice nurses’ competencies in the areas of pandemic disease care and care for infectious adults depended on the experience of nursing care and nursing competence in their professional careers, which may have impact on the nurses’ intention to stay. Therefore, clinical stress, frequency of caring for patients, and taking nursing courses were correlated with novice nurses’ intention to stay in their professional careers.

Nurse educators need to be innovative, stimulating, and engaging as they teach future nursing professionals. The use of YouTube in nursing education classes provides an easy, innovative, and user-friendly way to engage today’s nursing students. YouTube presentations can be easily adapted into nursing courses at any level, be it a fundamentals course for undergraduate students or a theoretical foundations course for graduate students. In this article I will provide information to help educators effectively integrate YouTube into their course offerings. I will start by reviewing the phenomenon of social networking. Next I will discuss challenges and strategies related to YouTube learning experiences, after which I will share some of the legal considerations in using YouTube. I will conclude by describing how to engage students via YouTube and current research related to YouTube.

ABSTRACT Qualitative study, developed through discussion groups, with the objective to elaborate, along with nurses, a tool to monitor patients submitted to blood transfusion. Study participants were 11 nursing professionals, being three nursing technicians and eight nurses. Data were analyzed with the content analysis technique, resulting in two categories: Quality of nursing care for patients undergoing blood transfusion and monitoring of patients submitted to blood transfusion. It was identified that professionals are able to understanding the concept of quality and seek to implement actions to achieve a good standard of patient care. In line with the current regulations, the professionals have structured a tool for recording information on blood transfusion, serving as a tool to monitor patients who are receiving this therapy. This research is intended to help identify and intervene early in the onset of transfusion reactions.

The present study aimed to examine the relationship between the quality of undergraduate education perceived by novice nurses and their retrospective satisfaction with their education. It also studied the relationships between the perceived usefulness of their education for their current jobs and the quality of the jobs held by novice nursing professionals. The moderator role of mobility in this relationship was also analyzed, as it reflects a boundary condition in which additional preparation or job opportunities may occur. The study used data from the graduates’ survey carried out by the Agència per a la Qualitat del Sistema Universitari de Catalunya (AQU) in 2017. The analysis of data from 644 graduates of Catalan Universities in 2014 highlights different functions of two types of knowledge and skills; those directly related to science and the practice of nursing are stronger predictors of retrospective satisfaction with nursing education. In turn, the perception of the usefulness of horizontal skills, such as transversal and communication skills, plays a stronger role in predicting job quality. The results about the role of mobility were not conclusive, and more research is needed to clarify its influence on nursing education and subsequent professional practice.

The outbreak of SARS-COV-2 has become an opportunity for nursing professionals of North Eastern states of India to experience handling patients during pandemics with limited resources. To explore the experiences of nursing staff in the care of COVID-19 patients. Descriptive phenomenological design was adopted to describe the experiences of nursing professionals involved in the care of COVID-19 patients in selected hospitals/COVID centers of Assam, India. The experiences of nurses caring for COVID-19 patients were summarized into 4 themes and various sub-themes. The themes include: Perspectives about COVID-19 duty, Experience on PPE kit, Conflicts & disagreements and Swab test & the final stage of isolation. Nurses reported changing patterns of nursing care, anxiety regarding COVID-19 duty, professional growth amidst risks and pressure. The nurses had to work under certain conflicts and disagreements in relation to patient care, their personal and career related decisions and interprofessional role distribution. At the final stage of isolation, most nurses were prepared to handle the situation even if they test COVID-19 positive. During this COVID-19 outbreak, positive and negative emotions of the front-line nurses interweaved and coexisted.
