AIM: to analyze nursing care practices at a Specialized Outpatient Care Center from the perspective of an integrative health care activity. METHOD: Interviews with 24 nursing professionals were undertaken. For data analysis, Thematic Content Analysis as proposed by Bardin was applied, resulting in the following themes: the team size and its commitment to health care; professional practices and activity of the nursing team. RESULTS: The size of the nursing team was considered insufficient, which compromises the quality of care and results in work overload and dissatisfaction of the nursing professionals. On the other hand, they were satisfied with the tasks performed day-to-day and related integrality to individual care, considered it essential and usually practiced it daily. CONCLUSION: It is considered that the nursing team has the potential and commitment to develop their care practice combined with the integrative perspective, and therefore providing quality health care to the population.

The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), a public health emergency of international concern, has made healthcare staff preparation and the nurturing of high-quality and adequate nursing professionals critical issues. This study aimed to explore registered nurses’ competence in nursing care and their intention to stay in their current workplace. In this study, participants who had graduated from different nursing education systems were recruited. The results indicated that nurses’ level of commitment to the workplace and clinical stress were positively correlated with the experience of working with patients. Stepwise regression analysis revealed the following significant predictors for intention to stay: clinical stress, frequency of caring for people with infections, and taking a course on infectious nursing. The novice nurses’ competencies in the areas of pandemic disease care and care for infectious adults depended on the experience of nursing care and nursing competence in their professional careers, which may have impact on the nurses’ intention to stay. Therefore, clinical stress, frequency of caring for patients, and taking nursing courses were correlated with novice nurses’ intention to stay in their professional careers.

ABSTRACT Objective: To conduct a situational diagnosis of the Nursing Care Systematization (NCS) in a Basic Health Unit from the perception of the nursing team. Method: This was a quantitative, descriptive-exploratory study, conducted in a Basic Health Unit in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil. A structured questionnaire containing Likert scale was used for data collection, previously validated by specialists. Results: The questionnaire was applied to 21 nursing professionals. It was verified that implementation of NCS and the nursing process is still incipient in the Basic Health Units. Regarding its use in all nursing actions: 19% of respondents believe that it is never used, 38% thought that it is rarely implemented, and 29% responded sometimes. The main difficulties identified were related to the lack of institutional structure, highlighting a lack of capacity by the institution (81%). The team has a reasonable understanding about the subject, but pointed out that professional education does not prepare them for performing NCS in primary care. Conclusion: Institutional interest in NCS is necessary to enable implementation. The study can contribute to the effective implementation in this unit and point out guidelines for its implementation in other similar contexts.
