Background: In recent years, the use of restorative justice (RJ) and restorative practices (RP) in schools has grown rapidly. Understanding how theory and research address this topic is important for its practical implementation based on scientific knowledge. The aim of this article was to analyse the practices derived from RJ implemented in school and what kinds of results have been achieved. Starting from the analysis of the qualitative and quantitative research in the field, a systematic review was conducted on the last decade of studies using RJ and RP at every level of school education. Methods: For this review, methods including the PRISMA guidelines, the PRISMA flow diagram, and qualitative synthesis were carried out. Scientific articles for the literature review were selected according to the following criteria: (1) publication date between the years 2010–2021; (2) student population aged 6–18 years; (3) publications in the English language; (4) articles directly accessible or accessible by contacting the author(s); 34 articles met the inclusion criteria. Results: The most used RP in school are circles (n = 26), followed by restorative conferences (n = 17), peer mediation (n = 10), restorative conversations (n = 8), mediation (n = 7), community-building circles (n = 5). RP can improve the school climate, discipline, positive conflict management through actions that aim at preventing suspensions, exclusions, conflicts, and misbehaviours (e.g., bullying). RJ practices promote positive relationships between peers and between students and teachers, as well as to prosocial behaviours through the development of social and emotional skills. Conclusions: From the studies examined, a great interest in applying restorative justice and practices in schools clearly emerged. Discussions on the benefits and challenges of implementation were provided. However, there is still limited evidence in terms of direct correlation, which suggests further studies on the impact of RJ and RP in school settings.

AbstractAlthough an increasing amount of empirical research has been linked to the impact of management control and governance on corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues since the financial crisis of 2008/09, heterogeneous results have characterised this research field. Regarding the group level of corporate governance, the efficacy of board committees (e.g., audit, compensation or CSR committees) has been included in recent research designs. However, analyses of corporate governance at the individual level are related to the effects of top management members [e.g., chief executive officer (CEO), chief financial officer (CFO) or chief sustainability officer (CSO)] on CSR outcomes. This paper aims to convey a detailed understanding of sustainable management control’s impact as CSR-related board expertise. In more detail, we focus on the influence of both CSR committees and CSOs on three CSR measures mainly analysed in empirical-quantitative research: (1) CSR reporting; (2) CSR assurance (CSRA); and (3) CSR performance. We motivate our analysis with increased relevance from practical, regulatory and research perspectives, and we employ a systematic literature review of the symbolic vs. substantive effects of sustainability-related board composition. Based on our theoretical model (legitimacy theory, stakeholder theory and upper-echelons theory), we selected 48 quantitative peer-reviewed empirical studies on this research topic. Our analysis shows that CSR committees positively influence CSR reporting and performance. Thus, there are indications that the implementation of a CSR committee is not a symbolic act, but instead substantively contributes to CSR activities. However, in light of inconclusive empirical research results and a lack of studies that have analysed CSO-related effects, a notable research gap has been identified. Moreover, we note the main limitations of prior research in this review and develop an agenda with useful recommendations for future studies.

With the advancement in technology, Social Networking Sites (SNS) are being used by millions of students in Bangladesh for various purposes. People use SNS for communication, interaction' sharing posts, photos, videos; creating blogs, sending messages, and for real time conversations (Zaidieh, 2012). Students can learn their target language through SNSs as these platforms engage students more and inspire them. Moreover, the usage of SNSs minimises learners’ fear and nervousness and authority of the instructor (Gilbert, Fiske, & Lindzey, 1998; Beauvois, 1998, cited in Millis, 2011). Moreover, an opportunity of interaction for both teachers and students is ensured through authentic tasks and materials which promote constructivist learning through meaningful communication (Woo, Herrington, Agostinho, & Reeves, 2007). This study has explored the impact of SNS in learning English at tertiary level. So, it focuses on the effects of Social Networking Sites in language learning platform, developing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and creating ease to teachers and learners in English has been examined in this study. To investigate this, I implemented quantitative research method with 120 students studying Honour’s in English Language and Literature at Public, National and Private Universities. Forty students were selected randomly from each of the university category. All the students were surveyed by using close-ended questionnaire and later descriptive statistical method was used to analyse the data. Despite having hesitation of communicating with each other, it is clearly evident that students use SNS mainly Facebook to improve their language skills.

This study as a literature review aimed to explore the impact of the integration of social media (SM) tools into universities’ English language classrooms. Currently, the English language plays an essential and fundamental role in education. Therefore, it is crucial for learners to obtain a good understanding of the English language in the academic environment. Teaching students by traditional methods might not help to improve their English language skills. One technique that can be applied to improve learning skills quickly is utilising E-learning tools and SM in teaching strategies. Hence, this paper examines the influence of the integration of E-learning tools and strategies such as SM in teaching and learning English language in Saudi university classes. This new strategy has been chosen as it allows learners to access information anywhere without restrictions of time, and it can support them to obtain an in-depth understanding of English language content. Finally, this study will provide some recommendations and suggestions for future work.

Abstract A language of instruction is used to deliver explanations about the concepts that are taught, discuss among students and teachers, and solve academic tasks such as exercises and assignments. At the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), students are drawn from different OIC countries whose language background is either the host country's language, e.g. Bangla, or other OIC member state languages e.g. French, Arabic, or English. This study investigates the implications of students’ language background towards their academic performance in IUT with specific objectives of assessing the impact of student’s level of English Language (EL) proficiency against their academic performance and determining the relationship between the constructs of the level of English Language proficiency and academic performance. The quantitative research design was used including close-ended questionnaires to collect data about the implication of language background on students’ performance. It was discovered that the implication of writing on students’ performance was minor and depended on the insight it was viewed in. Secondly, reading played an important part in building students’ confidence, increases participation and self-expression. Third, it was noted that perceived understanding had a slightly negative impact on student performance and, finally reading as part of background language had a significant positive role in the performance of students. Other factors such as the background of students in terms of origin, students’ interest in courses, etc. also influenced students’ academic performance. Further study in the future could explore other factors that determine students’ performance and issues of language to improve engineering knowledge and skills.
