The natural gums used as high molecular weight oleogelators are mainly polysaccharides that deliver a broad spectrum of possible utilization methods when structuring liquid fats to solid forms. The review discusses a natural gums’ structuring and gelling behavior to capture the oil droplets and form the water/oil gelling emulsions basing on their structural conformation, internal charge, and polymeric characteristics. The specific parameters and characteristics of natural gums based oleogels are also discussed. In the future, oleogels may eliminate saturated and trans fats from food products and allow the production of low-fat products, thus reducing the environmental damage caused by the excessive use of palm oil. The increasing knowledge of molecular interaction in polysaccharide chains of natural gums allows to apply more sustainable and wiser strategies towards product formulation. Innovative solutions for using oleogels based on natural polysaccharide biopolymers let incorporate them into the food matrix and replace fats completely or create blends containing the source of fats and the addition of the oleogel. The profound insight into molecular characteristics of natural gums in the function of being oleogelators is presented.

Its excesses shocked the reading public and it was condemned as obscene. The novel continues to beguile and shock readers today with its gruesome catalogue of iniquities, while at the same time giving a profound insight into the deep anxieties experienced by British citizens during one of the most turbulent periods in the nation’s history.

Our results are the first insight into groundwater copepods of the Polish Lowland. The sampling was conducted in 28 wells in north-eastern Poland, and Copepoda were present in 16 wells. We have identified six Copepoda species and one Cladocera. We have classified four species as stygophiles—Eucyclops serrulatus, Diacyclops bisetosus, Diacyclops crassicaudis, and Cyclops furcifer. These species were frequently found in studied wells of different regions of north-eastern Poland, often in high numbers, and females with egg sacs were observed. We present a detailed morphological description of these species, together with molecular characteristics based on mitochondrial DNA markers (COI gene) for E. serrulatus, D. bisetosus, and D. crassicaudis, and 12S ribosomal RNA for C. furcifer. We also present the development of abnormal structures in one specimen of D. crassicaudis, where the upper part of furcal rami was fused to form a single plate.

This article represents a preliminary inquiry into a little known and understudied commentarial tradition upon ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī’s classic work on the stations of Sufism, the Manāzil al-sāʾirīn (Stations of the Wayfarers). After briefly taking stock of the considerably late commentarial tradition which this important text engendered, we will take as our case study one of the Manāzil ’s key topics, namely its sixty-first chapter on the station of love. This pivotal section on love gives profound insight into early Sufism and into the minds of two of its greatest exponents. Anṣārī discusses the station of love in detail, as he does with every chapter, in three aspects, each pertaining to the three types of wayfarers: the initiates, the elect, and the foremost of the elect. Then, we shall turn our attention to perhaps the most important Sufi commentary upon this work by an important follower of the school of Ibn al-ʿArabī, ʿAbd al-Razzāq Kāshānī, offering a guided reading of his commentary upon Anṣarī’s chapter on love in the Manāzil. A complete English translation of this chapter will be offered and appropriately contextualized.


As the art that calls most attention to temporality, music provides us with profound insight into the nature of time, and time equally offers us one of the richest lenses through which to interrogate musical practice and thought. In this volume, musical time, arrayed across a spectrum of genres and performance/compositional contexts is explored from a multiplicity of perspectives. The contributions to the volume all register the centrality of time to our understanding of music and music-making and offer perspectives on time in music, particularly though not exclusively attending to contemporary forms of musical work. In sharing insights drawn from philosophy, music theory, ethnomusicology, psychology of performance and cultural studies, the book articulates a range of understandings on the metrics, politics and socialities woven into musical time.

This chapter gives an overview of artificial neural networks as instruments for processing miscellaneous biomedical signals. A variety of applications are illustrated in several areas of healthcare. The structure of this chapter is rather oriented on medical fields like cardiology, gynecology, or neuromuscular control than on types of neural nets. Many examples demonstrate how neural nets can support the diagnosis and prediction of diseases. However, their content does not claim completeness due to the enormous amount and exponentially increasing number of publications in this field. Besides the potential benefits for healthcare, some remarks on underlying assumptions are also included as well as problems which may occur while applying artificial neural nets. It is hoped that this review gives profound insight into strengths as well as weaknesses of artificial neural networks as tools for processing biomedical signals.

This is a report on the whole-genome sequence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain SBH163, which was isolated from a patient in the Malaysian Borneo state of Sabah. This report provides insight into the molecular characteristics of an M. tuberculosis Beijing genotype strain related to strains from Russia and South Africa.

Uterine sarcomas include a variety of mono- and biphasic malignancies, whereas tumor biology varies from an indolent and hormone-sensitive growth pattern to an aggressive and nonresponsive disease that is inevitably fatal. Insight into these different entities has only been gained after careful analysis of clinical, pathologic and molecular characteristics during the last few years. Furthermore, the rarity of uterine sarcomas has motivated many to collect data from different subtypes and to report on the collective data in order to report on larger numbers. The current overview aims to provide insights of clinical importance into each type of uterine sarcoma, with a special emphasis on treatment modalities.

Specific targeting is common in biology and is a key challenge in nanomedicine. It was recently demonstrated that multivalent probes can selectively target surfaces with a defined density of surface binding sites. Here we show, using a combination of experiments and simulations on multivalent polymers, that such “superselective” binding can be tuned through the design of the multivalent probe, to target a desired density of binding sites. We develop an analytical model that provides simple yet quantitative predictions to tune the polymer’s superselective binding properties by its molecular characteristics such as size, valency, and affinity. This work opens up a route toward the rational design of multivalent probes with defined superselective targeting properties for practical applications, and provides mechanistic insight into the regulation of multivalent interactions in biology. To illustrate this, we show how the superselective targeting of the extracellular matrix polysaccharide hyaluronan to its main cell surface receptor CD44 is controlled by the affinity of individual CD44–hyaluronan interactions.

Teacher in-service training is one of the ways to introduce innovative solutions to teaching, whereby obtaining an insight into teachers? experiences proves to be vital for understanding this process. In our country, the studies dealing with this problem are fairly rare. Using this as a starting point, the aim of our study was to obtain an insight into class teachers? experiences in implementing innovative teaching methods during the in-service training programmes whose focus was on encouraging the cooperation and creativity of students during classes. This study is a part of a more extensive experimental research that was conducted at a primary school in Belgrade within the Trefoil educational model. The sample included eight first-grade and second-grade class teachers, whose conversations, which took place during ten meetings of the teachers? board, were analysed. A qualitative thematic content analysis was used in data processing. The results indicate that the previous knowledge and experience of class teachers, as well as their implicit pedagogical beliefs, are important factors which determine the successfulness of the implementation of innovative solutions in teaching. The implementation of innovative methods in teaching and the exchange of experiences with colleagues and the facilitator during the in-service training have contributed to the re-examination of class teachers? implicit pedagogical beliefs and the shift in their work with respect to motivation, effectiveness, cooperation with colleagues and implementing a differentiated approach in teaching. Class teachers? perceptions also point towards the positive changes when it comes to students? motivation and their more active positioning during classes. The key implications of the current study refer to the necessity of intensifying the long-term programmes in our in-service teacher training system that would create the necessary conditions for a more successful implementation of innovative solutions in teaching. Finally, it is also pointed out to the limitations of the current study.
