Supercapacitors have the unique advantages of high power density, fast charge and discharge rates, long cycle life, high safety, and reliability, and are increasingly being used for applications including automobiles, rail transit, communication equipment, digital electronics, and aerospace equipment. The supercapacitor industry is currently in a stage of rapid development; great breakthroughs have also been made in improving the performance of supercapacitors and the expansion of their application. Electrode technology is the core of supercapacitors. Transition-metal compounds have a relatively high theoretical capacity and have received widespread attention as electrode materials for supercapacitors. In addition, there is a synergistic effect between the different components of various electrode composite materials. Due to their superior electrochemical performance, supercapacitors are receiving increasing research attention. Flexible supercapacitors have been hailed for their good plasticity, resulting in a development boom. This review article mainly outlines the development process of various electrode materials, including carbon materials, conductive polymers, metal compounds, and composite materials, as well as flexible electrode materials based on carbon cloth.

AbstractThe rapid development of wearable, highly integrated, and flexible electronics has stimulated great demand for on-chip and miniaturized energy storage devices. By virtue of their high power density and long cycle life, micro-supercapacitors (MSCs), especially those with interdigital structures, have attracted considerable attention. In recent years, tremendous theoretical and experimental explorations have been carried out on the structures and electrode materials of MSCs, aiming to obtain better mechanical and electrochemical properties. The high-performance MSCs can be used in many fields, such as energy storage and medical assistant examination. Here, this review focuses on the recent progress of advanced MSCs in fabrication strategies, structural design, electrode materials design and function, and integrated applications, where typical examples are highlighted and analyzed. Furthermore, the current challenges and future development directions of advanced MSCs are also discussed.

With the depletion of petroleum energy, the possibility of prices of petroleum-based materials increasing, and increased environmental awareness, biodegradable materials as a kind of green alternative have attracted more and more research attention. In this context, poly (lactic acid) has shown a unique combination of properties such as nontoxicity, biodegradability, biocompatibility, and good workability. However, examples of its known drawbacks include poor tensile strength, low elongation at break, poor thermal properties, and low crystallization rate. Lignocellulosic materials such as lignin and cellulose have excellent biodegradability and mechanical properties. Compounding such biomass components with poly (lactic acid) is expected to prepare green composite materials with improved properties of poly (lactic acid). This paper is aimed at summarizing the research progress of modification of poly (lactic acid) with lignin and cellulose made in in recent years, with emphasis on effects of lignin and cellulose on mechanical properties, thermal stability and crystallinity on poly (lactic acid) composite materials. Development of poly (lactic acid) composite materials in this respect is forecasted.

Recent years have seen the rapid development and integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing. The market is providing various consumer-oriented smart IoT devices; the mainstream cloud service providers are building their software stacks to support IoT services. With this emerging trend even growing, the security of such smart IoT cloud systems has drawn much research attention in recent years. To better understand the emerging consumer-oriented smart IoT cloud systems for practical engineers and new researchers, this article presents a review of the most recent research efforts on existing, real, already deployed consumer-oriented IoT cloud applications in the past five years using typical case studies. Specifically, we first present a general model for the IoT cloud ecosystem. Then, using the model, we review and summarize recent, representative research works on emerging smart IoT cloud system security using 10 detailed case studies, with the aim that the case studies together provide insights into the insecurity of current emerging IoT cloud systems. We further present a systematic approach to conduct a security analysis for IoT cloud systems. Based on the proposed security analysis approach, we review and suggest potential security risk mitigation methods to protect IoT cloud systems. We also discuss future research challenges for the IoT cloud security area.

The platelike Co3O4/carbon nanofiber (CNF) composite materials were synthesized by the calcination of β-Co(OH)2/CNF precursor prepared by a surfactant-free hydrothermal method. As negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, the platelike Co3O4/CNF composites can deliver a high reversible capacity of 900 mAh g-1 for a life extending over hundreds of cycles at a current density of 100 mA g-1. The high Li-storage capacity and excellent cycling performance for Co3O4/CNF composite materials may mainly attribute to the beneficial effect of the CNFs addition on enhancing structural stability and electrical conductivity of Co3O4 platelets.
