This paper presents a star-tracking algorithm to determine the accurate global orientation of autonomous platforms such as nano satellites, U A V s, and micro-drones using commercial-off-the-shelf ( C O T S ) mobile devices such as smartphones. Such star-tracking is especially challenging because it is based on existing cameras which capture a partial view of the sky and should work continuously and autonomously. The novelty of the proposed framework lies both in the computational efficiency and the ability of the star-tracker algorithm to cope with noisy measurements and outliers using affordable C O T S mobile platforms. The presented algorithm was implemented and tested on several popular platforms including: Android mobile devices, commercial-micro drones, and Raspberry Pi. The expected accuracy of the reported orientation is [0.1°,0.5°].

<span>This paper presents a learning media repository and delivery system (LMRD) for a smart classroom using IoT and mobile technologies. It was designed to support active learning pedagogy. Teachers are able to broadcast learning media or course materials directly to the student mobile devices, after that the students can interact to the media by drawing, editing, or adding comments using their mobile device then broadcast it back to present or reflect their thinking. The system includes 1) a server using a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and 2) mobile devices. The system supports full features involving two approaches in the form of an Internet model and a non-Internet model. The mobile applications were implemented using cross-platform approach to support major mobile platforms including iOS and Android. </span><span>The evaluation had three dimensions in terms of usability, functionality and security. The results revealed that all dimensions were evaluated highly. The teacher and students were highly satisfied with the system.</span>

From adults to children, beginners to experts, and in numerous countries around the world, there is a diverse user base for mobile devices. However, the extensive use of mobile devices has also led to the proliferation and attacks of various mobile malware. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of mobile malware. Subsequently, the chapter highlights the current trends and challenges posed by malicious mobile applications. The authors look into Android and iOS mobile platforms and discuss current research to detect malicious applications. Remedies for poor risk communications on Android-based devices are also suggested.

Mobile devices create new opportunities for companies. However, innovative applications can cause challenges for software and system architecture. In this chapter, the authors describe a trap to fall into when starting a promising mobile application in a shortsighted way. When the application gets popular and successful, diversity of mobile platforms increases. Many users have an almost emotional relationship to their own smartphone or platform and may not be willing to change it. In order to make the mobile application available to more users, a company may be tempted to add a “simple” extension to accommodate other platforms. Thus, the diversity in devices leads to diversity in distributed object technologies and with it to problems in complexity and compatibility. The authors describe an approach that counters this problem with RESTful services. They use the ConTexter system for illustrating experiences with the problem and for evaluating a proposed solution. The chapter shows the key issues the authors had to solve while migrating ConTexter to a RESTful platform.

In recent decades, vendors developed technology infrastructure solutions to integrate with enterprises and consumers' mobile devices. Hybrid development platforms are solution architecture designed to enhance developers' capabilities and provide organizations as well as customers the level of services to support mobile devices capabilities. Hybrid development platform solutions are easy to deploy at various enterprises. These capabilities can be distributed to/or integrated with mobile devices as agile applications and system interfaces. Hybrid mobile devices are designed to further provide users with enhanced technology solutions: cloud computing, big data, the Internet, physical and/or virtual network systems. The development of hybrid mobile platforms provides developers with advanced technology capabilities, necessary for supporting mobile devices once deployed to the marketplace. Technical and security features affecting the development and security of mobile devices are also discussed in this chapter.

Context-aware advertising is one of the most critical components in the Internet ecosystem today because most WWW publisher’s revenue highly depends on the relevance of the displayed advertisement to the context of the user interaction. Existing research works in context-aware advertising mainly focus on analyzing either the content of the web page (in which it is also called contextual advertising), or the keywords of the user search. However, we have identified the limitations of these works when being extended into mobile web, which has become a major platform for users to access Internet with thanks to the new lightweight web technologies and the development of mobile devices. These mobile devices are equipped with networking capabilities and sensors that provide versatile contexts including physical environment, user internal and social community. These contexts, which are far beyond just page content and search keywords, should be well organized and utilized for online advertising to gain better user experience and reaction. In this chapter, we point out the aforementioned limitations of the existing works in context-aware advertising when being applied for mobile platforms. We also discuss the characteristics of the contexts that are available on mobile devices and clearly describe the challenges of utilizing these contexts to optimize the advertisement on mobile platforms. We then present a context-aware advertising framework that collects and integrates the user contexts to select, generate, and present advertising content. The purpose of this framework is to provide the mobile users with targeted and purposeful advertisement. Finally, we discuss the implementation aspects and one specific application of this framework and outline our future plans.

Growth of mobile devices uses has favored the user experience with different digital platforms, from basic activities such as sending messages, phone calls, taking pictures for social networks, email, bank account management, and commerce. These are some examples of daily tasks performed from mobile devices, which makes it essential to provide security of information. Therefore, privacy of stored information has become a main point in the development of mobile devices. This article presents research about the impact that mobile devices have in people's lives and the presence of biometric systems in this kind of device. Papers related with biometrics on mobile devices were examined to find which devices have integrated biometric systems; in addition to identifying biometric features used to authenticate people and find out what mobile platforms were created for. It was found that the smartphone is the device with more biometrics systems, and fingerprints are the most used feature; also, that the Android operating system is the most widely used mobile platform for these purposes.

The last few years has seen a massive growth of applications for smart phone operating systems such as Android, IOS. Short message services (SMS) is one of them. Although SMS as an application has existed for a long time, the method for managing short messages is rather outdated and very inconvenient. The is partially because most of the SMS applications are inherited from old fashioned mobile platforms, in which users of mobile phone usually concentrate on basic phone service and demand less for SMS. With the introduction of smart phone operating system, the old-fashioned method of short messages management is not suitable. To cope with this problem, in this paper we first conduct research on modern ways of short messages management, and then a short message services management system for mobile devices is designed. In this new system, more advanced options, such as messages query by date, by sender and sending a message to many receivers at the same time, for short messages is provided. Moreover, to validate our research and design, we implement the system based on Android platform. And we conduct some experiments with this system and test results shows that our system works quite well. With the mobile Internet becoming increasingly important to life, our research is expected to improve work efficiency greatly.

Because of improving mobile platforms and faster 4G speed, the annual growth of mobile devices has exceeded 50%, and many catering enterprises have integrated services to make ordering and delivery more convenient for smartphone users. Thus, user satisfaction with new online food-delivery platforms and services needs to be explored and evaluated. Using an Importance–Satisfaction Model (I–S Model), this study applied 12 service elements obtained from previous studies and an in-depth discussion of experts and scholars to evaluate user satisfaction towards Foodpanda, the first online food delivery service provider in Taiwan. Questionnaires were distributed from June to July 2020 and 256 samples were collected. This study found that eight items fell within the “Excellent Area”, one within the “Improvement Area” and three within the “Careless Area”.
