Tripping is a common problem that everyone faces when walking. This paper mainly focuses on a lower limb exoskeleton that can help those weak in joints to avoid tripping when negotiating stairs or stepping over obstacles. This method does not need a camera or map reconstruction to recognize the obstacles and plan paths. The exoskeleton applies an impedance controller to follow and control the pilot’s movements. A virtual potential field is proposed to help the robot regulate the pilot’s motion and avoid kicking the obstacles appearing in front of the pilot’s foot during walking. Simulation and experiments show that this method works effectively and could help the elderly and those affected by joint weakness avoid tripping when walking.

Design and control of a lower-limb exoskeleton rehabilitation of the elderly are the main challenge for health care in the past decades. In order to satisfy the requirements of the elderly or disabled users, this paper presents a novel design and adaptive fuzzy control of lower-limb empowered rehabilitation, namely MOVING UP. Different from other rehabilitation devices, this article considers active rehabilitation training devices. Firstly, a novel product design method based on user experience is proposed for the lower-limb elderly exoskeleton rehabilitation. At the same time, in order to achieve a stable operation control for the assistant rehabilitation system, an adaptive fuzzy control scheme is discussed. Finally, the feasibility of the design and control method is validated with a detailed simulation study and the human-interaction test. With the booming demand in the global market for the assistive lower-limb exoskeleton, the methodology developed in this paper will bring more research and manufacturing interests.

Background: Moving away from family can cause psychological and emotional trauma for the elderly. Accordingly, the present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of spiritual therapy on loneliness feeling among the elderly in a nursing home in Isfahan. Methods: The method was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design and a control group. The population of this study included all of the elderly in Sadeghieh nursing home in Isfahan in 2018. The sample of this study included 30 elderly people being selected by purposive sampling and then randomly included in the experimental and control groups (15 elderly people in each group). The experimental group received the therapeutic interventions related to spiritual therapy at eight sessions of 90 minutes every week for two months. Then, the subjects in both groups were re-tested. The used instruments included Russell’s loneliness questionnaire (1996). After collecting the questionnaires and extracting the raw data, the data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance by SPSS23 statistical software at 0.05 error level. Results: spiritual therapy had a significant effect on loneliness among the elderly in the nursing home (p < 0.001). In this regard, this therapy could reduce loneliness among the elderly in the nursing home. The effect of spiritual therapy on loneliness among the elderly in the nursing home was 53%. Conclusion: Based on the research findings, spiritual therapy can reduce loneliness among the elderly by the techniques such as taking responsibility, assigning cases to God, strengthening the intention, and deleting negative thoughts.

The article deals with the solution of the problem of optimizing the characteristics of controlled motion of human lower limb exoskeleton robot for improving medical rehabilitation. The aim of the work is to develop a rehabilitation device capable of providing controlled motion in two planes, as well as maintaining balance without loss of mobility. The design and control system of a rehabilitation trainer designed for performing mechanotherapy of the lower limbs of patients with locomotive disorders are proposed and characterized. The developed system has a number of significant differences from analogues and can be recommended for experimental research on patients with impaired locomotive functions

Purpose Many studies have shown that rehabilitation robots are crucial for lower limb dysfunction, but application of many robotics have yet to be seen to actual use in China. This study aimed to improve a lower limb rehabilitation robot by details improving and practical design. Design/methodology/approach Structures and control system of a lower limb rehabilitation robot are improved in detail, including joint calculations, comfort analysis and feedback logic creation, and prototype experiments on healthy individuals and patients are conducted in a hospital. Findings All participating subjects did not experience any problems. The experiment shows detail improving is reasonable, and feasibility of the robot was confirmed, which has potential for overcoming difficulties and problems in practical application. Research limitations/implications Therapeutic effects need to be evaluated in the future. Also, more details should be improved continuously based on the actual demand. Originality/value The improved robot could assist the lower limb during standing or walking, which has significance for practical application and patients in China.

Locomotion is an essential aspect of day-to-day human life. Advancement in wearable robotic technology enhances capabilities for maintaining the locomotion of people with disabilities. The exoskeleton, being one of them, meets the growing demands in the rehabilitation industry and enhanced locomotion requirements. Depending on the need and disability, various types of exoskeletons are designed. The design aspect of the exoskeleton includes various sensor systems, mechanical structure, mechanism, and control strategy used. Detection of gait events depends on the disability of the wearer and is very critical to decide the appropriate gait event that needs to be activated either by powering the actuators actively or passively. These interfaces should have a minimum possible response time to control the exoskeleton system to follow the wearer's gait. This review paper describes various sensing system incorporated in the control of various exoskeleton systems for the detection of gait events.

OBJECTIVE: to verify the forms of communication used in four Primary Health Units with Family Health Program teams in Porto Feliz, São Paulo, and how they impact in the care and control of the health of elderly people. METHOD: this qualitative study sought to capture the communication between elderly people and healthcare professionals. Interviews were conducted with 20 elderly people of both sexes. RESULTS: from the discourses and observations, assertive communication and blocked communication emerged as the central analysis themes, the verbal and nonverbal elements of which, unveiled subjectivity of the communication process, of the local culture and of the psychosocial factors positively and negatively contributing to the healthcare for elderly people. The nursing teams of the Family Health Strategy showed forms of communication that favored the adherence of the elderly people to the care and control of their health. Negatives aspects did not have completely prejudicial consequences, however, should be avoided, in order to facilitate integral care to elderly people. CONCLUSION: it is worth reinforcing the need for improvement of the nursing team and other healthcare professionals regarding health communication as an innovative technology, bringing credibility to the health promotion and prevention programs with elderly users.
