With the widespread application of machine learning methods, the continuous improvement of forecast accuracy has become an important task, which is especially crucial for landslide displacement predictions. This study aimed to propose a novel prediction model to improve accuracy in landslide prediction, based on the combination of multiple new algorithms. The proposed new method includes three parts: data preparation, multi-swarm intelligence (MSI) optimization, and displacement prediction. In the data preparation, the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) is adopted to separate the trend and periodic displacements from the observed cumulative landslide displacement. The frequency component and residual component of reconstructed inducing factors that related to landslide movements are also extracted by the CEEMD and t-test, and then picked out with edit distance on real sequence (EDR) as input variables for the support vector regression (SVR) model. MSI optimization algorithms are used to optimize the SVR model in the MSI optimization; thus, six predictions models can be obtained that can be used in the displacement prediction part. Finally, the trend and periodic displacements are predicted by six optimized SVR models, respectively. The trend displacement and periodic displacement with the highest prediction accuracy are added and regarded as the final prediction result. The case study of the Shiliushubao landslide shows that the prediction results match the observed data well with an improvement in the aspect of average relative error, which indicates that the proposed model can predict landslide displacements with high precision, even when the displacements are characterized by stepped curves that under the influence of multiple time-varying factors.

Accurate landslide displacement prediction has great practical significance for mitigating geohazards. Traditional deterministic forecasting methods can provide only a single point value and cannot give the degree of uncertainty associated with the forecast, thereby failing to provide information on predictive confidence. This study applied interval prediction for landslide displacement. Taking the Tanjiahe landslide of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area as an example and considering the impact of seasonal variations in reservoir level and rainfall, the uncertainties associated with landslide displacement prediction were quantified into prediction intervals (PIs) by a bootstrapped least-square support vector machine (LSSVM) method (B-LSSVM). The proposed method consists of three steps: First, the LSSVM and bootstrapping were combined to estimate the true regression means of landslide displacement and the variance with respect to model misspecification uncertainties. Second, a new LSSVM model optimized by a genetic algorithm (GA) was implemented to estimate the noise variance. Finally, the point prediction was derived from the regression means, and the PIs were constructed by combining the regression mean, the model variance, and the noise variance. We applied the proposed method to predict the displacement of four GPS monitoring points of the Tanjiahe landslide, and we comprehensively compared the prediction accuracy and the quality of the constructed PIs with benchmark methods. A simulation and performance comparison showed that the proposed method is a promising technique for providing accurate and reliable prediction results for landslide displacement.

Selecting internal hyperparameters, which can be set by the automatic search algorithm, is important to improve the generalization performance of machine learning models. In this study, the geological, remote sensing and geochemical data of the Lalingzaohuo area in Qinghai province were researched. A multi-source metallogenic information spatial data set was constructed by calculating the Youden index for selecting potential evidence layers. The model for mapping mineral prospectivity of the study area was established by combining two swarm intelligence optimization algorithms, namely the bat algorithm (BA) and the firefly algorithm (FA), with different machine learning models. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and prediction-area (P-A) curves were used for performance evaluation and showed that the two algorithms had an obvious optimization effect. The BA and FA differentiated in improving multilayer perceptron (MLP), AdaBoost and one-class support vector machine (OCSVM) models; thus, there was no optimization algorithm that was consistently superior to the other. However, the accuracy of the machine learning models was significantly enhanced after optimizing the hyperparameters. The area under curve (AUC) values of the ROC curve of the optimized machine learning models were all higher than 0.8, indicating that the hyperparameter optimization calculation was effective. In terms of individual model improvement, the accuracy of the FA-AdaBoost model was improved the most significantly, with the AUC value increasing from 0.8173 to 0.9597 and the prediction/area (P/A) value increasing from 3.156 to 10.765, where the mineral targets predicted by the model occupied 8.63% of the study area and contained 92.86% of the known mineral deposits. The targets predicted by the improved machine learning models are consistent with the metallogenic geological characteristics, indicating that the swarm intelligence optimization algorithm combined with the machine learning model is an efficient method for mineral prospectivity mapping.

In order to improve the prediction accuracy of busy telephone traffic, this study proposes a busy telephone traffic prediction method that combines wavelet transformation and least square support vector machine (lssvm) model which is optimized by particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm. Firstly, decompose the pretreatment of busy telephone traffic data with mallat algorithm and get low frequency component and high frequency component. Secondly, reconfigure each component and use pso_lssvm model predict each reconfigured one. Then the busy telephone traffic can be achieved. The experimental results show that the prediction model has higher prediction accuracy and stability.

In this work, we summarized the characteristics and influencing factors of load forecasting based on its application status. The common methods of the short-term load forecasting were analyzed to derive their advantages and disadvantages. According to the historical load and meteorological data in a certain region of Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, a least squares support vector machine model was used to discuss the influencing factors of forecasting. The regularity of the load change was concluded to correct the “abnormal data” in the historical load data, thus normalizing the relevant factors in load forecasting. The two parameters are as follows Gauss kernel function and Eigen parameter C in LSSVM had a significant impact on the model, which was still solved by empirical methods. Therefore, the particle swarm optimization was used to optimize the model parameters. Taking the error of test set as the basis of judgment, the optimization of model parameters was achieved to improve forecast accuracy. The practical examples showed that the method in the work had good convergence, forecast accuracy, and training speed.
