This paper aims at understanding and evaluating the environmental and economic impacts of a crowdshipping platform in urban areas. The investigation refers to the city of Rome and considers an environmental-friendly crowdshipping based on the use of the mass transit network of the city, where customers/crowdshippers pick-up/drop-off goods in automated parcel lockers located either inside the transit stations or in their surroundings. Crowdshippers are passengers that would use the transit network anyhow for other activities (e.g., home-to-work), thus avoiding additional trips. The study requires firstly, estimating the willingness to buy a crowdshipping service like the one proposed here, in order to quantify the potential demand. The estimation is realized adopting an extensive stated preference survey and discrete choice modeling. Then, several scenarios with different features of the service are proposed and evaluated up to 2025 in terms of both externalities (local and global pollutant emissions, noise emissions and accidents reductions) and revenues. The results are useful to understand and quantify the potential of this strategy for last mile B2C deliveries. Moreover, it provides local policy-makers and freight companies with a good knowledge base for the future development of a platform for public transport-based crowdshipping and for estimating the likely impact the system could have both from an economic and environmental point of view.

This paper will examine the correlation between theories and researches on community involvement with the planning for Surabaya’s public transport network. This departs from the idea of including affected community to join in the planning and designing process and one of the decision maker, rather than just a passive consumer, using researches related to participatory development on urban design practices. This paper will start from the idea of engaging communities in urban planning and development process to create a more resilient community and look for its examples in the city of Surabaya, Indonesia. Afterwards, this paper will observe the importance of effective and efficient transport management and the conditions of Surabaya's recent transit network and the efforts to improve it by implementing reports on rail-based transport. These two aspects, community involvement and provision of new public transport system then merged. The expected results are that the development of urban areas should be taking into account its surrounding neighbourhood, district, or corridor. In the end, this paper will generally recommend what steps should be taken, either for the transport management or the community involvement effort.

While the formulation of the problem of how the policy and the concept of waste management in urban areas, How to solve the problem of waste in the community in the city of Depok, What obstacles that cause the management and processing of waste in the city of Depok has not run well. The method that will be used in this research is using qualitative descriptive research method and passed by through stages, that is mapping of local waste treatment policy, evaluating the processing of garbage area. One of the goals of local government is to minimize waste. While the targets achieved from this research is the model of waste management dilaksaakan by local government of Depok city can realize a clean life, environmentally friendly and organized waste processing and improve the economy of society. Sedangkan perumusan masalah bagaimana kebijakan serta konsep pengelolaan sampah di perkotaan, Bagaimana mengatasi masalah sampah pada masyarakat di kabupaten Bogor, Hambatan apa yang menyebabkan pengelolaan serta pengolahan sampah di kabupaten Bogor belum berjalan dengan baik. Metode yang akan dipakai dalampencapai penelitian ini adalahmenggunakanmetode penelitian deskriptif kualitattif dan dilalui dengan melalui tahapan-tahapan, yaitu mapping kebijakan pengolahan sampah daerah,mengevaluasi pengolahan sampah daerah. Salah satu tujuan dari pemerintah daerah adalah untuk meminimalisir sampah. Sedangkan target yang dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah model pengelolaan sampah yang dilaksaakan oleh pemerintah daerah kabupaten Bogor, dapat mewujudkan kehidupan sejahtera, bersih, ramah lingkungan serta tertata pengolahan sampahnya dan meningkatkan ekonomi masyarakat. This study examined Residents’ evaluation of turning transport infrastructure (road) to spaces for holding social ceremonies in the indigenous residential zone of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. Upon stratifying the city into the three identifiable zones, the core, otherwise known as the indigenous residential zone was isolated for study. Of the twenty (20) political wards in the two local government areas of the town, fifteen (15) wards that were located in the indigenous zone constituted the study area. Respondents were selected along one out of every three (33.3%) of the Trunk — C (local) roads being the one mostly used for the purpose in the study area. The respondents were the residents, commercial motorists, commercial motorcyclists, and celebrants. Six hundred and forty-two (642) copies of questionnaire were administered and harvested on the spot. The Mean Analysis generated from the respondents’ rating of twelve perceived hazards listed in the questionnaire were then used to determine respondents’ most highly rated perceived consequences of the practice. These were noisy environment, Blockage of drainage by waste, and Endangering the life of the sick on the way to hospital; the most highly rated reasons why the practice came into being; and level of acceptability of the practice which was found to be very unacceptable in the study area. Policy makers should therefore focus their attention on strict enforcement of the law prohibiting the practice in order to ensure more cordial relationship among the citizenry, seeing citizens’ unacceptability of the practice in the study area.

An artist who finds themselves in the last days of a war in the enemy’s defeated capital may not just fix its objects dispassionately. Many factors influence the selection and depicturing manner of the objects. One of the factors is satisfaction from the accomplished retribution, awareness of the historical justice triumph. Researchers think such reactions are inevitable. The article offers to consider from this point of view the drawings created by Soviet artists in Berlin in the spring and summer of 1945. Such an analysis of the German capital’s visual image is conducted for the first time. It shows that the above reactions were not the only ones. The graphics of the first post-war days no less clearly and consistently express other feelings and intentions of their authors: the desire to accurately document and fix the image of the city and some of its structures in history, the happiness from the silence of peace, and the simple interest in the monuments of European art.The article examines Berlin scenes as evidences of the transition from front-line graphics focused on the visual recording of the war traces to peacetime graphics; from documentary — to artistry; from the worldview of a person at war — to the one of a person who lived to victory. In this approach, it has been important to consider the graphic images of Berlin in unity with the diary and memoir texts belonging to both artists and ordinary soldiers who participated in the storming of Berlin. The combination of verbal and visual sources helps to present the German capital’s image that existed in the public consciousness, as well as the specificity of its representation by means of visual art.

Sustainable parking management in central urban areas typically involves implementation of restrictive parking measures. Discouraged by parking measures users seek for an alternative option. Some of them self-initiatively found a way not to completely abandon driving: they drive and park outside the central area and reach the final destination by public transport. This travel pattern is known as “informal Park-and-Ride“ (PnR), and should be estimated as relatively positive because the critical “last mile” is travelled by public transport. As PnR demand grows, policy-makers should consider its formalisation and integration into the urban transport policy. This paper aims to identify informal PnR users in Belgrade and to investigate their motives, requests and preferences towards this option. The findings should be of importance when planning and developing formal PnR sites, which can largely increase user willingness to accept restrictive parking measures, i.e. to adopt more sustainable travel behaviour.

AbstractUrban agriculture, a current trend in many US cities, is purported to bring enhanced food security, reduction of food waste, community building, open green space in cities and higher property values. However, the literature lacks an understanding of whether urban farming has extended beyond a compelling concept into the practice of farming in the city and peri-urban areas. The exact definition of an urban farm is challenging, since many urban farms have a primary mission of supporting social goals rather than providing food. Use of the USDA definition of farm omits many self-identified urban farms, but the most consistent measure of agriculture is the Census of Agriculture. Using census data, this paper finds that urban farms are smaller than the typical farm, and while the amount of urban and peri-urban farmland declined between 2002 and 2007, the total number of farms increased. Growth in farmland is positively related to land values, suggesting that increases in urban farmland are more likely to take place in population dense, land scarce areas. Spatial analysis of urban and peri-urban farms in the Northeast finds fewer clusters of farms in areas with high land costs. In the most populous Northeastern cities, the farms are more likely to be located in the peri-urban area than in the urban core. Urban farms in the Northeast were more likely to produce vegetables, eggs and goats. Significant levels of vegetable farm clusters were detected surrounding Providence, Boston and Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Areas, which are regions that had no significant level of clustering of total farms. Future analysis, incorporating data from the 2012 census, should provide insight into whether local policy changes have resulted in growth in urban farms and farmland.

Distribution of goods in urban areas is one of the most important factors affecting the operation of the region but the management of these services is often overlooked by transport policy makers in Polish cities. Historical buildings create additional difficulties because they make the infrastructure development impossible. It is estimated that in large European cities approximately 25% of CO2 emissions, 30% of nitrogen oxides and 50% of particulates from transport are emitted by trucks and vans. The doctoral thesis presents methods used to optimize distribution processes in cities with historic buildings in Europe and around the world. It also presents the results of a research carried out in the Old Town of Gdańsk and proposes a method to optimize distribution processes for the area, which was the main objective of the work. The hypothesis of the trial has been formulated as follows: locating Urban Consolidation Center not far away from the center of the City of Gdańsk would bring tangible benefits for the city and all users of the urban space. The study used a method of analysis and criticism of literature; detailed study of a particular case and the method of observation. According to the design model, the proposed solution will bring tangible benefits to all users of space – residents, businesses and city authorities. The results of tests carried out on account of this thesis were provided to the city authorities.

Park-and-ride is a traffic management method of traffic congestion problem in urban areas. As an extent of total demand management, park-and-ride service (P&R service) has broadly implemented in many countries. P&R service has proven to be progressive in alleviating traffic congestion despite of complication in finding parking spaces in the city centers. The objective of this research is to discuss a model to shift car travelers’ to park-and-ride service (P&R service) and to investigate the factors which influence car travelers’ behavior. This study can support policy makers’ with useful information for future planning and development of park-and-ride service. Research outcomes will support policy-making and provide base for future study on modal choice behavior model for park-and-ride service.

The main motivation of this work is to analyze whether or not the presence of buildings is able to modify the seismic field significantly. We first present a numerical method able to account for a three-dimensional building distribution resting on a layered elastic-half-space. The proposed method is based on a variational coupling between Boundary Elements and modal representation for the buildings. Provided with the hypothesis of a stochastic homogeneous distribution of these buildings or a deterministic periodic one, a realistic model of an entire city may be accounted for. This method is applied to practical situations and it is shown that modifications of the incident field occur mainly for soft layered soils. However from an engineering point of view, it appears that the amplification levels are not significantly modified even in these extreme cases. Nevertheless, a strong scattering of the response inside the city depends on the nearby buildings can be observed.

The article attempts to analyze the place of higher educational establishments(HEE) in general and its museums in particular playing in the city life. Thethe empirical basis of the article is the information collected as a result of researchvisits to HEE in seven regions of Western Ukraine: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk,Ternopil, Volyn, Rivne, Chernivtsi, and Zakarpattia, organized for 2013-2017.The main used method is interviews with personnel of HEE museums.The author points out these «temples of muses» gradually moved awayfrom its traditional educational and research mission in the 1980’s. Such reassessmentof priorities had been caused by the crisis of the museum. For thelast 30 years it has become clear reduction of using the collections for teachingand research in many universities; some HEE plan to dispose of collectionsand to close museums; many universities are working out alternative organizationalmodels for managing collections in the one newly created museum.The crisis in the museum environment has imposed on the crisis, which theparent universities as institutions are encountering today - «crisis of identity» and «a crisis of resources», caused by the increasing often contradictoryrequirements to the high schools. On this background, the museums as individualunits also began to increase requirements. It led to their gradual transformationinto a museum of « the third generation». One of their defining missionis promoting the HEE, cooperation with the public in order to disseminateinformation about the university, vocational guidance, involvement of patronsand organization of other works implementing this direction. In particular,the article highlights atypical for the Ukrainian context the role of HEE museums- «shop-windows» and «show-cases», through which representatives ofoutside university environment can acquaint themselves with the achievementsof high school and feel its special atmosphere. The author outlines a numberof touristic potential of some HEE in Western Ukraine, where physical objectsare interesting from an architectural and cultural point of view. Amongthe most striking examples is the main building of Yuriy Fedkovych ChernivtsiNational University., Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, campus of Lviv Polytechnic National University, campus of The National Universityof Ostroh Academy, Lviv State University of Life Safety, Kremenets ForestryCollege. Among the researched 74 HEE are roughly a quarter which can beclassified as «visually attractive». However, less than 10 % of them use thisadvantage for brand developing. The relevant policy concerning museumsand academic space in general will allow high school to become a separatepoint on the tourist map, to establish relationships with the surrounding communityand to participate actively in local cultural life.
