The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industrial sectors in the world and its environmental impacts are huge. Garments are produced effectively at a low price, are of low quality, and are used for a very short time before ending up in increasing textile waste streams. One critical aspect in this context is the lifetime of a garment. Short garment lifetimes are the results of low quality and consumer dissatisfaction, or consumers’ constant search for newness, resulting in the early disposal of garments. This study focused on the issue of garment quality and how it can be connected to product lifetime. The research used a case study approach, including company interviews about working for quality, and aimed to expand on the topic of how quality impacts product lifetimes. Data analysis was conducted according to the principles of descriptive analysis and the discussion expanded to the circular economy context, creating an extended understanding of garment quality in a circular economy.

Multilevel statistical entropy analysis (SEA) is a method that has been recently proposed to evaluate circular economy strategies on the material, component and product levels to identify critical stages of resource and functionality losses. However, the comparison of technological alternatives may be difficult, and equal entropies do not necessarily correspond with equal recyclability. A coupling with energy consumption aspects is strongly recommended but largely lacking. The aim of this paper is to improve the multilevel SEA method to reliably assess the recyclability of plastics. Therefore, the multilevel SEA method is first applied to a conceptual case study of a fictitious bag filled with plastics, and the possibilities and limitations of the method are highlighted. Subsequently, it is proposed to extend the method with the computation of the relative decomposition energies of components and products. Finally, two recyclability metrics are proposed. A plastic waste collection bag filled with plastic bottles is used as a case study to illustrate the potential of the developed extended multilevel SEA method. The proposed extension allows us to estimate the recyclability of plastics. In future work, this method will be refined and other potential extensions will be studied together with applications to real-life plastic products and plastic waste streams.

This article examined the problem to reduce divorces outside the court. The Malaysian government has established sanctions for the perpetrators. This research was conducted employing a case study approach with descriptive-analysis method. The results showed that the implementation of divorce sanctions outside the Syariah Subordinate Court of Selangor was less effective in reducing divorces. The high number of divorce cases were found in the country of Selangor, increasing by 71.8% of cases from 2012 to 2017. However, the cases in the West Gombak Syariah Subordinate Court has decreased slightly between 2015 and 2017, indicated by only a few cases were registered. Two factors influenced the implementation of divorce sanctions outside the Syariah Subordinate Court. First, the Selangor Islamic Family Law has regulated the divorce law outside the court in a detailed and clear. Still, the socialization for the public was lacking, and the society took this rule seriously so that the sanction implementation for divorce cases outside the court became a legal solution. Second, the high number of divorce cases found outside the court required a legal policy to impose a legal sanction on the perpetrators.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the marketing actions developed for rural tourism lodgings and the effect of these actions on lodgings’ performance. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected with a questionnaire-based survey, addressing promoters of rural tourism supply in Portugal and were analysed using SPSS. Descriptive analysis was undertaken along with a cluster analysis aimed at identifying groups of suppliers according to the types marketing activities they carried out. Findings Results show that the majority of the suppliers are engaged in other professional activities, aside from running a tourist lodging. These “other activities” provide the bulk of lodging suppliers’ household income. Moreover, they dedicate very little of their time to managing the tourism lodging and develop few marketing activities. Despite this, there is a small group of lodging suppliers who, even though in minority, show a more entrepreneurial and professional attitude regarding marketing actions. They are correspondingly more successful and more satisfied with the performance of their business. Research limitations/implications A more qualitative in-depth case study approach with a systematic triangulation of findings from diverse sources and approaches might have permitted an even deeper understanding of some of the results, such as the reasons for the identified passivity of suppliers or their lack of marketing initiatives, as well as possible solutions to overcome these identified barriers. Originality/value This study is important, as there is little existing work connecting rural tourism and marketing. Apart from providing knowledge from theory, the empirical results indicate from a practical perspective some of the potential benefits of assuming a marketing perspective in rural tourism.

Abstract: Circular Economy (CE) has recently attracted the attention of academics, governments and business people due to the concept which believed to be a solution to the negative impacts caused by the traditional economic system. Previous research examining this topic has generally dominated CE principles as the focus of an investigation. Another study also conducted a mapping of CE barriers which consisted of cultural, regulatory, market and technological factors. However, the focus of such studies often makes it difficult to determine how companies are implementing CE. This article aims to fill the gap by analyzing how recycling companies manage CE based on their saving factor. This study uses a qualitative case study approach in three companies located in Pekanbaru. The first two cases are waste managers made from cans, paper, plastics and organic waste, while the last case involves a used oil refining company. Data collection was done through desk evaluations, direct interviews, and document studies, while the analysis was utilized by using within-case and cross-case. The results show that CE implementation was carried out through several approaches including adopting a sharing economy system (between companies and customers), cooperating production of similar companies, and encouraging employee skills improvement through continuous training. Keywords: Circular Economy, barriers, strategies, case studies, recycling companies
