We introduce a new class of distributions called the epsilon–positive family, which can be viewed as generalization of the distributions with positive support. The construction of the epsilon–positive family is motivated by the ideas behind the generation of skew distributions using symmetric kernels. This new class of distributions has as special cases the exponential, Weibull, log–normal, log–logistic and gamma distributions, and it provides an alternative for analyzing reliability and survival data. An interesting feature of the epsilon–positive family is that it can viewed as a finite scale mixture of positive distributions, facilitating the derivation and implementation of EM–type algorithms to obtain maximum likelihood estimates (MLE) with (un)censored data. We illustrate the flexibility of this family to analyze censored and uncensored data using two real examples. One of them was previously discussed in the literature; the second one consists of a new application to model recidivism data of a group of inmates released from the Chilean prisons during 2007. The results show that this new family of distributions has a better performance fitting the data than some common alternatives such as the exponential distribution.

A new family of generalized distributions called the beta Weibull-G (BWG) distribution is proposed and developed. This new class of distributions has several new and well known distributions including exponentiated-G, Weibull-G, Rayleigh-G, exponential-G, beta exponential-G, beta Rayleigh-G, beta Rayleigh exponential, beta-exponential-exponential, Weibull-log-logistic distributions, as well as several other distributions such as beta Weibull-Uniform, beta Rayleigh-Uniform, beta exponential-Uniform, beta Weibull-log logistic and beta Weibull-exponential distributions as special cases. Series expansion of the density function, hazard function, moments, mean deviations, Lorenz and Bonferroni curves, R\'enyi entropy, distribution of order statistics and maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters are given. Application of the model to real data set is presented to illustrate the importance and usefulness of the special case beta Weibull-log-logistic distribution.

In this study, we present a new family of distributions through generalization of the extended bimodal-normal distribution. This family includes several special cases, like the normal, Birnbaum-Saunders, Student’s t, and Laplace distribution, that are developed and defined using stochastic representation. The theoretical properties are derived, and easily implemented Monte Carlo simulation schemes are presented. An inferential study is performed for the Laplace distribution. We end with an illustration of two real data sets.

A new family of distributions, namely the Kumaraswamy Odd Lindley-G distribution is developed. The new density function can be expressed as a linear combination of exponentiated-G densities. Statistical properties of the new family including hazard rate and quantile functions, moments and incomplete moments, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, distribution of order statistics and R´enyi entropy are derived. Some special cases are presented. We conduct some Monte Carlo simulations to examine the consistency of the maximum likelihood estimates. We provide an application of KOL-LLo distribution to a real data set.

In this work, a new family of distributions, which extends the Beta transmuted family, was obtained, called the Modified Beta Transmuted Family of distribution. This derived family has the Beta Family of Distribution and the Transmuted family of distribution as subfamilies. The Modified beta transmuted frechet, modified beta transmuted exponential, modified beta transmuted gompertz and modified beta transmuted lindley were obtained as special cases. The analytical expressions were studied for some statistical properties of the derived family of distribution which includes the moments, moments generating function and order statistics. The estimates of the parameters of the family were obtained using the maximum likelihood estimation method. Using the exponential distribution as a baseline for the family distribution, the resulting distribution (modified beta transmuted exponential distribution) was studied and its properties. The modified beta transmuted exponential distribution was applied to a real life time data to assess its flexibility in which the results shows a better fit when compared to some competitive models.

The need to develop generalizations of existing statistical distributions to make them more flexible in modeling real data sets is vital in parametric statistical modeling and inference. Thus, this study develops a new class of distributions called the extended odd Fréchet family of distributions for modifying existing standard distributions. Two special models named the extended odd Fréchet Nadarajah-Haghighi and extended odd Fréchet Weibull distributions are proposed using the developed family. The densities and the hazard rate functions of the two special distributions exhibit different kinds of monotonic and nonmonotonic shapes. The maximum likelihood method is used to develop estimators for the parameters of the new class of distributions. The application of the special distributions is illustrated by means of a real data set. The results revealed that the special distributions developed from the new family can provide reasonable parametric fit to the given data set compared to other existing distributions.

A new flexible and versatile generalized family of distributions, namely, half logistic odd Weibull-Topp-Leone-G (HLOW-TL-G) distribution is presented. The distribution can be traced back to the exponentiated-G distribution. We derive the statistical properties of the proposed family of distributions. Maximum likelihood estimates of the HLOW-TL-G family of distributions are also presented. Five special cases of the proposed family are presented. A simulation study and real data applications on one of the special cases are also presented

We proposed a new class of distributions with two additional positive parameters called the Inverse Lomax-G (IL-G) class. A special case was discussed, by taking Weibull as a baseline. Different properties of the new family that hold for any type of baseline model are derived including moments, moment generating function, entropy for Renyi, entropy for Shanon, and order statistics. The performances of the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters of the sub-model of the Inverse Lomax-G family were evaluated through a simulation study. Application of the sub-model to the Breaking strength data clearly showed its superiority overthe other competing models.

We propose a new generator of univariate continuous distributions with two extra parameters called the transmuted odd-Lindley generator which extends the odd Lindely-G family introduced by Gomes-Silva et al. [1]. Some mathematical properties of the new generator such as, the ordinary and incomplete moments, generating function, stress strength model, Rényi entropy, probability weighted moments and order statistics are investigated. Certain characterisations of the proposed family are estimated. We discuss the maximum likelihood estimates and the observed information matrix for the model parameters. The potentiality of the new family is illustrated by means of five applications to real data sets.

A new generator of continuous distributions called the Inverse Lomax-Exponentiated G family, which has three extra positive parameters is proposed. The structural properties of the new family that holds for any continuous baseline model including explicit density function expressions, moments, inequality measurements, moment generating function, reliability functions, Renyi and Shanon entropies, and distribution of order statistics are derived. A Monte Carlo simulation to test the efficiency of the maximum likelihood estimates is conducted. The application of the new sub-model to the two data sets using the maximum likelihood method indicates that the new model is better than the existing competitors.

This paper constructs a new family of distributions, which is based on the Hurwitz zeta function, which includes novel distributions as well important known distributions such as the normal, gamma, Weibull, Maxwell-Boltzmann and the exponential power distributions. We provide the n-th moment, the Esscher transform and premium and the tail conditional moments for this family.
