The aim of this investigation was to help select design criteria that highlight customer satisfaction, and thus improve the design quality in buildings, specifically in a building of a thermal hotel. The methodology is based on applying the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) technique to listen to the voice of the customer, in addition to the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which allows selection of the best design alternative. The literature shows that QFD–AHP methods have been tried in different areas of the building industry, but there are few examples of combining building design processes. In the study process, collaboration environments between stakeholders were established and the operability of the method used was tested with real actors. The matrix solutions realised in the horizontal and vertical sections of the framework of the model can be reused in different projects with different user demands. This added a modular and developable feature to the model. This study revealed that the most important customer needs, in order of importance, are “health”, “service”, “comfort”, and “functionality”. These are followed by “accessibility”, “aesthetics”, and “energy conservation”. According to the findings, QFD was shown to be an appropriate method for transferring customer (occupant) requirements to designs in the most accurate manner, given the complex structure of thermal hotel buildings.

<p class="Default">In order to sustain in a competitive market like pharmaceutical in Bangladesh, it is important to get an insight into physicians’ preferences in prescribing the drugs. The aim of this work is to investigate and address the physician requirements through an integrated methodology of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Quality Function Deployment (QFD). In this research, an expert panel has been interviewed to recognize the criteria affecting physicians’ decisions. The results from AHP derived through Expert Choice software demonstrate that from the viewpoint of physicians, out of the five criteria, quality of product offering is ranked highest in prescribing the drugs followed by the reputation of the company, relationship enjoyed with the company, etc. As for the technical aspects, derived from the relationship matrix of AHP and QFD, out of the sixteen, brand image is ranked first followed by the quality of raw and packaging materials, skilled production personnel etc. The contribution of this research is expected to enable the managers in the pharmaceutical companies to recognize the factors that influence physicians in prescribing drugs for the patients and help them find out challenging items with preeminent alternatives. Few suggestions for future research are also put forward. <strong></strong></p>

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a methodology that extracts client demands (CDs) and inducting them in the final service/product. Once CDs are extracted from client the traditional QFD approach uses absolute importance to identify the degree of importance for each CD. Direct evaluation of CDs based on absolute weighting without tradeoffs is easy to perform, but may lead to serious deviations from reality. An alternative to avoid this problem is to adopt the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach. In this paper, an integrated model combining AHP and QFD has been delineated as a quality achievement tool in healthcare. A case study is performed on the healthcare services provided by government general hospital, Indore District, Madhya Pradesh, India and data has been analyzed to benchmark the proposed framework by computing the degree of relative importance for CDs through AHP and incorporating them in subsequent deployment matrices.

ABSTRACT As urban populations increase worldwide and more demands are placed on infrastructure and buildings, the topic of adaptable building design has experienced increased interest as a way to embed adaptability into the urban building stock and avoid unnecessary demolition and waste. Evaluation tools for judging building adaptability based on physical characteristics have recently been proposed. The most common approach for these tools is to use a weighted-sum of scores for different criteria. The primary purpose of this paper was to compare a weighted-sum measurement approach against a more rigorous, less abstract measurement that involved judgements about simulated adaptation projects (called an example-based approach). These measurements were performed through expert elicitation and an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) survey, where participants evaluated the relative adaptability of four case study buildings from the Clemson University campus. The results showed significant correlation between the weighted-sum approach and the example-based approach, supporting the reasonableness of using weighted-sum approaches to evaluate the adaptive potential of building designs. In addition, a separate group of experts rated adaptability of the case study buildings by providing qualitative reasons for their rankings. Unlike the other approaches, this group was not given a specific tool to guide their ratings. The qualitative data provided additional context for understanding results from the quantitative approaches.

Purpose: of this paper is to cover the main domains of industrial engineering based on the statistical and non-statistical techniques related to quality engineering. In this research, in addition to the review of the main domains of industrial engineering and the required specifications of technique, have been tried to present an integrated model of application of these techniques in order to create or increase the total score of productivity and sustainability in related scale with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach. Design/methodology/approach: of this paper has been divided in two categories. The method of theoretical research consists of data collection tools, reference books, and several articles of the Iranian Center for Defences Standard. The method of practical research is the assessment of selected statistical and non-statistical techniques related to quality engineering, which have been deployed in the main domains of industrial engineering related to the manufacturing factories that are belonged to the selected industries of the Defence Industries Organization (DIO). Findings: of this paper consist of four main results. The maximum impact of standard statistical techniques in order to cover the main domains of industrial engineering and the required specifications of technique is related to the Statistical Process Control (SPC). Furthermore, the maximum impact of non-statistical techniques in order to cover them, is related to the Quality Function Deployment (QFD). The other results, which can be assessed with details, have shown that the maximum importance of the main domains of industrial engineering is related to the planning and manufacturing control and the maximum importance of the required specifications of technique is related to the mathematical analysis too. The total score of productivity and sustainability in related scale has been achieved to the upper than moderate level. In this research, the identification and determination of important factors, which have influenced on the productivity and sustainability have been done for the first time. The percentage of impact of the quality engineering techniques for both productivity and sustainability in the industrial engineering field is approximate to 70%. Research limitations/implications: of this paper suggest that the application of quality engineering tools including statistical and non-statistical techniques can be generalized to the other engineering or management fields with the same Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) or Analytic Network Process (ANP) approach in phase environments. Originality/value: of this paper have been extracted from the managers and experts involved with qualitative issues in the different levels of the Defence Industries Organization (DIO) and the Maham Group. This values are assessed from two aspects. Firstly, the validity of this research was carried out using expert’s opinions (Industrial advisers, Lead auditors of the Iranian center for Defences Standard and university professors). Secondly, all values of the research reliability are acceptable.

The Musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) is skeletal muscle disorders that lead to damage in nerves, muscles, joints and cartilages. The damage is caused by muscle tension and degeneration. From the preliminary research in virgin coconut oil (VCO) processing industry, Central Java, Indonesia, there are potential risk of MSDs for workers. The majority of operators complaining on the right thigh (score 37) and left thigh (score 35). In addition, 50% of operators is work with moderate risk (rapid entire body assessment scores 4-7) and 50% others at a high risk level (rapid entire body assessment scores 8-10). Therefore, improvement is needed to prevent MSDs through work facility design using an integrated quality function deployment (QFD) method. In QFD, there is a concept screening phase to select some product design concept. To determine the priority, the QFD method can be integrated with analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. The research shows that attributes of work facility needed by user are ergonomic, portable, durable and aesthetic. Concept design B have the highest priority score 0,32 and selected as the final work facility design. The technical specification are made from mahogany wood with an attractive design, red colour combination and developed based on user's anthropometry data.

Online reviews are crucial to any online business that wants to increase sales on the Internet. Customer reviews have information about product attributes, customer requirements (CRs), and shopping experience; mining reviews provide the direction of decision-making for new product development and design (NPDD). Besides, the information of customer preference has vagueness and uncertainty, and the accuracy of decision-making information directly affects the success of NPDD. This paper proposed a methodology that integrates the Kano model (KM), analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and quality function deployment (QFD) methods with intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) to solve decision-making problems in NPDD. By the new method, the web crawler technology was first applied to e-commerce web sites to collect raw data, and the representative CRs were extracted through combining LDA model with Apriori algorithm. Second, the intuitionistic fuzzy Kano model (IFKM) is proposed to evaluate adjustment coefficient of CRs and Kano categories via customer preference membership functions. Thirdly, overall weights which contained emotional needs (ENs) and functional needs (FNs) are obtained via intuitionistic fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (IFAHP); thus, the adjusted weights are calculated from IFKM and IFAHP. Next, the intuitionistic fuzzy quality function deployment (IFQFD) is proposed to acquire engineering characteristics (ECs) of weights through combining competition benchmarks and based on technical benchmarks to make goals for a company’s NPDD. Finally, the method was applied to study vertical-configured air conditioner (VAC) as an example. The results showed that the application of text mining and IFS to improve CS is both reliable and scientific.
