With the exceptions of Bartók and Messiaen, modern European composers have not shown a particular preference for the piano as the natural vehicle for major works. It has been left to American composers to continue writing works for the piano with the same confidence as the nineteenth-century masters. The list is impressive, ranging from Ives's extraordinary sonatas to Elliott Carter's fine Concerto, via Piston, Sessions, Barber, Cowell, Foss and Copland. The reasons for this American dominance in modern piano literature are complex, although the purely economic factor, that it is cheaper to perform a piano work than an orchestral one, probably influenced Ives's and Copland's generations. To this must be added the use of the piano in jazz, that peculiarly American phenomenon. Indeed the piano, in its more percussive vein, seems to be the quintessential sonority of American music. Looking at Copland's work we can see that piano sound clearly influences the nature of his orchestrations, as it did Ravel's. Some works began life as piano scores (the ballet Billy the Kid for instance), most of the orchestral works include a piano, and many use typical piano gestures—the opening of El Salón México for example. Conversely Copland's piano writing, like that of Beethoven, is influenced by the sounds of the orchestra, although never to such an extent that it prevents truly pianistic writing. The piano works are brilliantly realized in terms of the instrument and are virtuoso pieces, particularly in their rhythmic and sonorous subtleties.

Online classroom management is an innovation in the overall educational process. Its main characteristics - pedagogical communication, digital methodology and quality of learning in the online environment are the main semantic pillars on which this article is built. Empirical results from a teacher survey are presented. Their professional reflection outlines three research profiles: personal professional, pedagogical-methodological, competence-reflexive. In the pedagogical analysis of these profiles a number of conclusions are formed for the management of the online classroom in the process of distance learning. They are related to issues such as basic methodological skills, digital skills of teachers; quality of education, continuing qualification and others. The question is to develop a digital methodology for more successful management of the online classroom in the process of distance learning.

The article substantiates the expediency of a holistic analysis of the problem of professional training of choreographers in the British experience and the need to extrapolate it to the plane of the national system of higher choreographic education. The purpose of the study is to identify the organizational and didactic foundations of choreographic education in the British experience and substantiate innovative ideas for its use in Ukraine. The article defines the criteria of comparison (regulatory, organizational, semantic, methodological and technological), comparative and pedagogical analysis of choreographers’ professional training in the British and Ukrainian experience, and also common and different trends. The article uses research methods: theoretical: analysis, synthesis and generalization of pedagogical literature; interpretation and comparison; scientific extrapolation; empirical: study of the British experience, observation, conversations with students and teachers in Great Britain and Ukraine. Result. Based on comparative and pedagogical analysis of professional training of choreographers in the British and Ukrainian experience revealed familiar and different trends. The criteria of comparison are determined: normative-legal, organizational, semantic, methodical and technological. Common approaches to choreographers’training are justified. On the generalization of the identified features the specific recommendations for the use of progressive ideas abroad in the Ukrainian system of choreographic education are substantiated.

The article is devoted to the piano works of Nikolay Savelyevich Berestov, one of the most famous composers of Yakutia, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation and Yakutia, whose compositional heritage is performed outside of Yakutia and Russia. He is the author of numerous works in different genres of vocal and instrumental music, innovatively implementing in his compositions the traditions of national folklore. The article reveals characteristic features of the composer's style — the interaction of intonation vocabulary of national folklore and European writing technique, the adherence to the program, the consistent definition of technical and figurative- emotional tasks of plots and dramaturgy. The most striking works from various cycles — pieces, fugues as well as the "Northern Landscapes" triptych — are examined in more detail.

Arthur Foote (1853–1937) was one of the first American composers to receive his entire musical training in the United States and to go on to establish an international reputation. These seven works for cello and piano include a major romantic sonata and six smaller pieces. All are newly edited from the manuscript sources and original editions, and three are published here for the first time.
