As universities invest in the development of e-learning resources, e-learning sustainability has come under consideration. This has largely focused on the challenges and facilitators of organisational and technological sustainability and scalability, and professional development. Little research has examined the experience of a teacher dealing with e-learning sustainability when taking over a course with an e-learning resource and associated assessment. This research focuses on a teacher who was inexperienced with e-learning technology, yet took over a blended unit of study with an e-learning resource that accounted for one-fifth of the subject assessment and was directed towards academic skills development relevant to the degree program. Taking a longitudinal approach, this research examines the challenges faced by the new teacher and the way she changed the e-learning resource and its implementation over two years. A focus of the research is the way the teacher's reflections on the challenges and changes provided an opportunity and stimulus for change in her e-learning beliefs and practices. This research has implications for the way universities support teachers taking over another teacher's e-learning resource, the need for explicit documentation of underpinning beliefs and structured handover, the benefit of teamwork in developing e-learning resources, and provision of on-going support.Keywords: e-learning sustainability; e-learning beliefs and practices; reflection; longitudinal research(Published: 30 July 2014)Citation: Research in Learning Technology 2014, 22: 23362 - http://dx.doi.org/10.3402/rlt.v22.23362

Since the declaration of a COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 teaching institutions started the process of adjusting to the new challenge. Medical education could not be imparted the way it used to be and some new methods had to be taken to adapt to the pandemic. At our institute, each week two lectures were recorded and later uploaded on the Youtube Channel and shared with students. This was followed by an MCQs based test using Google forms. Ten lectures were delivered in 5 weeks to 55 participants.  Majority of residents agreed that this activity increased their knowledge of the subject and opted to continue it in future.  With help of short online lectures (< 30 mins) and short online tests (5 MCQs), the learning experience of residents can be enhanced. In future, more online resources can be used to incorporate this method of teaching.

The availability of ICT-based learning tools is one of the supports for the creation of classes that implement E-learning. The learning process can occur if there are at least two main elements, namely: (1) people who learn, and (2) learning resources. Learning resources include people (resource persons), tools (hardware), materials (software), environment (background, settings) and others. Learning tools are one type of learning resource and become an element that has a very important role in e-learning. There is no e-larning without the availability of learning tools, so the ability of teachers to develop ICT-based learning tools becomes very important. This learning device is often also called an internet-based learning device or online learning device. Three main characteristics of this learning tool include: (1) presenting multi media, (2) preparing, processing and presenting information, and (3) hyperlinks. The nature of this online learning tool has the advantage that it can be accessed anytime and anywhere as long as it has internet access, so that the teacher has the ability to develop ICT-based learning tools. These characteristics make the source of learning tools very rich, and the availability of appropriate ICT-based guided inquiry learning model tools is very much needed as a relevant learning resource.

Recent standardization efforts in e-learning technology have resulted in a number of specifications, how ever, the automation process that is considered essential in a learning management system (LMS) is a less explored one. As learning technology becomes more widespread and more heterogeneous, there is a growing need to specify processes that cross the boundaries of a single LMS or learning resource repository. This article proposes to obtain a specification orientated to automation that takes on board the heterogeneity of systems and formats and provides a language for specifying complex and generic interactions. Having this goal in mind, a technique based on three steps is suggested. The semantic conformance profiles, the business process management (BPM) diagram, and its translation into the business process execution language (BPEL) seem to be suitable for achieving it.

AbstractIntroduction:The E-lefENT programme is a collaborative e-learning project developed by the Department of Health and ENTUK. Prior to its introduction, we aimed to assess current use of and attitudes towards e-learning amongst UK otolaryngology trainees.Method:A web-based questionnaire was distributed to UK otolaryngology trainees via regional programme directors.Results:A total of 117 responses was received (35 per cent response rate). Most trainees reported increasing exposure to e-learning throughout their training and rated their current computer literacy skills highly, although satisfaction with current e-learning resources was found to vary widely for a variety of reasons.Conclusion:Meeting the educational needs of otolaryngology trainees in the current era continues to be a challenge. Most trainees are already familiar with e-learning, although the quality and delivery of available websites is currently variable. The majority of trainees who responded seemed receptive to the implementation of a free, otolaryngology-specific e-learning resource.

The course of mathematical analysis is important in the subject preparation of computer science students. The article deals with the issues of improving the level of mathematical competence of students in the study of mathematical analysis using e – learning technology based on the learning environment of the European system of distance learning (Learning Management System-LMS) Moodle. The principles of selection of theoretical and practical content of the electronic course in mathematical analysis are described. The efficiency of the use of the developed training course as an auxiliary didactic tools. The experimental work was attended by students of the 1st course of the direction "Applied Informatics". The article presents some results of the use in the educational process of the electronic course in the process of mastering the discipline "Mathematical analysis".

In the modern educational space regarding the realities of the information society special importance is attached to issues related to the provision of a high level of informatization of education, which implies teachers’ mastering the necessary competencies and the ability to introduce e-learning resources into educational and training practice. Adobe Flash as one of the platforms for creating web applications and multimedia presentations enjoys greatest popularity with users including teachers. However, in connection with the announcement of discontinuing Adobe Flash support in 2020, the issue of choosing an analog to create web applications and presentations for use in teaching purposes is becoming particularly relevant. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of developing electronic educational resources by teachers using Adobe Flash and HTML5 for teaching math in primary school.

The article is devoted to the implementation of gamification methods in the educational process. The characteristic features of light and hard gamification are presented. The appropriateness of using gamification when applying e-learning technology is considered. Classification of courses based on hard gamification taking into account the technological features of development is proposed: courses-presentations, courses — computer games, VR/AR courses. The article also illustrates the use of various game elements of easy gamification using the example of the module “Level up! — Gamification” of the Moodle LMS. The capabilities of this module can be used in an electronic course by any teacher who has the skills of working with the Moodle.The authors present the analysis of the development of a training course in sales techniques using hard and light gamification technologies, where the course development was assessed for its complexity, manufacturability, and resource requirements. The results of the analysis showed that the development of courses using hard gamification requires much more financial and time-consuming than the development of courses using light gamification.The article evaluates the results of the educational intensiveness intense “Island 10–22”, held in July 2019 in Skolkovo, in which 100 university teams, teams of research and educational centers, teams of schoolchildren — winners of competitions, olympiads, hackathons (“Young Talents”) participated. The results of the intense confirmed the effectiveness of the use of light gamification methods in adult training. Thus, the conclusions presented in the article reveal a number of advantages that light gamification has in comparison with hard gamification.

Informatization of education has been going on for 30 years. During this time, a good material and technical base appeared in schools, there are repositories of e-learning resources to which teachers have access. However, it is difficult to use these e-learning resources due to their too large number and not always high level. It is advisable to introduce a system of reviews and recommendations, to conduct a comparative analysis, as well as to make reviews of resources on a particular subject/topic. In addition, the demand for e-learning resources is affected by the fact that education authorities encourage not so much the use of e-learning resources as their development by the teacher himself. In general, the load on teachers has increased instead of the promised saving of time and effort when using the e-learning resources. At the same time, many e-learning resources are not very effective, since they do not meet the requirements of cognitiveness (they contribute not to learning, but to simple memorization of the material). It is necessary to explore the process of learning new material: this will allow you to create cognitive e-learning resources and other resources that would help you with equal probability to successfully acquire new knowledge for students belonging to different psycho-types. At the initial stage of the study of any subject, it is more expedient to use the usual “paper” method, that is, a textbook and not overload the student’s brain with excessive information. Only when he has mastered the basic provisions, we can turn to e-learning resources, bearing in mind that they must be cognitive, that is, they are aimed at logical perception and rapid intuitive learning, only in this case e-learning resources can be considered effective. The conclusion is formulated that cognitiveness is the next stage of informatization of education after the stage of electronization.
