Background and aims: The imbalance between energy intake and consumption has been recognized as an important factor contributing to the gestational weight gain (GWG). Additionally, the determination of the effect of macronutrient composition on GWG has been recommended by researchers. Therefore, we examined the effect of nutrition education on weight gain, energy, and energy-adjusted macronutrients intake during three trimesters of pregnancy which have not been widely studied. Methods: This randomized single-blinded clinical trial was performed on 192 primiparous pregnant women in Isfahan, Iran, from May 2015 to September 2016. Data were collected using a questionnaire completed through interviews with pregnant women and prenatal care-related records. We developed an individualized calorie-appropriate diet for each participant at enrollment and then three 45-60 minute training sessions were held at 6-10, 18, and 26 weeks of pregnancy and the subjects’ weights were measured during these sessions. A consecutive 3-day food intake record at 6-10, 18 and 34-36 weeks was obtained from two groups to determine the macronutrients. Moreover, physical activity scores were estimated before and after the intervention. Results: The mean weights at 18, 26, and 40 weeks of gestation were significantly lower in the intervention group ( P=0.024, P=0.040, and P=0.015, respectively). The total energy, energy-adjusted carbohydrate and protein intake at 6-10, 18, and 34-36 weeks of gestation were not significantly different between the two groups (P >0.05). However, the mean energy-adjusted fat intake decreased ( P=0.043). In addition, the mean energy-adjusted dietary fiber intake was significantly higher in the intervention group ( P=0.001). Conclusion: In the present individualized calorie-appropriate trial, the mean weights decreased during three trimesters in the intervention group. Additionally, calorie, energy-adjusted carbohydrate and protein intake did not change after intervention while energy-adjusted fat intake decreased.

Background and Aims: Anxiety following acute myocardial infarction is a particularly important issue. Prayer is one of the basic human needs that is related to mental health. In this regard, this study aimed to determine the effect of recitation of Tawassul prayer on anxiety and physiological parameters of patients with myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was performed on 80 patients for 6 months from August 2017 to March 2018. They were selected by the targeted sampling method and randomly assigned to two groups with gender and age block randomization. The subjects were asked to complete the anxiety subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Physiologic parameters were measured and participants in the intervention group listened to the recitation of the Tawassul Prayer with headphones. Results: In the experimental group, the mean of anxiety scores before and after intervention were 11.17±3.06 and 5.81±3.16, respectively, which had a significant difference (P<0.001). There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of the mean scores of anxiety before and after intervention (P<0.001) and the respiratory rate before and after intervention (P=0.025). Conclusion: Prayer affected the level of anxiety and respiratory rate. This prayer is useful for reducing anxiety and improving the respiratory rate in patients with myocardial infarction.

Background: The coverage of 90 Fe tablets in Semarang in 2015 was 26.619 of 29.490 pregnant women (97%) but the incidence of anemia in pregnant women was still quite high. One important factor which influences the levels of hemoglobin is multi micronutrient.Objective: This study aims to analyze the changes in hemoglobin levels with multi micronutrient supplementation in pregnant women with anemia.Methods: A Quasy experimental study with randomized control group pre-post test design. The study samples were 40 pregnant women with gestational age of 20 ± 1 weeks divided into two groups, the intervention group (multi micronutrient supplementation) and the control group (Fe supplementation) for 6 weeks. The study was conducted from November 2016 to January 2017. The levels of hemoglobin were measured using cyanmethohemoglobin. Paired t test and independent t test were used for data analyses.Results: The mean increase in hemoglobin levels after multi micronutrient supplementation was 1.545 (1.292) g/dl, whereas the mean increase in hemoglobin levels after Fe supplementation was 0.757 (0.742) g/dl. The difference in hemoglobin levels before and after multi micronutrient supplementation was significantly different (p=0.049). Cohen’s d effect size test showed value of 0.748.Conclusion: Multi micronutrient supplementation could improve hemoglobin levels. Increase in the levels of hemoglobin with multi micronutrient supplementation was higher than Fe supplementation.

Background. Preeclampsia is the major problem and the main leading cause of fetal and maternal mortality worldwide. The early prediction of preeclampsia in pregnant women is required to prevent the occurrence of preeclampsia. The mean arterial pressure (MAP) and roll-over test (ROT) are the combination of measurement which can be used to predict preeclampsia. On the contrary, Ajwa dates were reported to have an enormous activity which contributes to its role in improving health conditions. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of daily consumption of seven Ajwa dates on prevention of preeclampsia, through MAP and ROT changes. Methods. Forty pregnant women (n = 40) were randomly assigned into the control group (n = 10) and the intervention group which received a daily intake of Ajwa dates (n = 30). The MAP and ROT were assessed before and after the 8-week intervention period. Results. The intervention group showed the significant reduction in MAP and ROT following the 8-week intervention period (p<0.05). Conclusion. Daily consumption of seven Ajwa dates has a remarkable potential to decrease the MAP and ROT in pregnant women at risk of developing preeclampsia, and thus, it can contribute to prevent the development of preeclampsia.

Background: : Changes in physiological parameters in pregnant women are important factors in mothers who are candidates for cesarean section. Objective:: The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of operating room and cesarean section orientation on the physiological parameters (BP, heart rate, respiration) of pregnant women undergoing cesarean section. Materials and Methods:: This clinical trial study was performed on 80 pregnant women referring to cesarean section in hospitals affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2019. The samples were randomly divided into two control (n = 40) and intervention groups (n = 40). The intervention group participated in 4 sessions of training classes. The control group used routine hospital trainings. The parameters were measured before and after the intervention in two groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 21), independent t-test and analysis of covariance. Results: The mean of post-training blood pressure in the intervention group 82.78(7.86) and in the control group 84.08 (7.44) was not statistically significant (p < .487). After intervention, the mean of heart rate in the intervention group 82.15 (8.10) and in the control group 83.43 (8.54) was statistically significant (p <0.0001). After intervention, the mean of respiratory rate in the intervention group was 94.28 (0.96) and in the control group was 75.96 (1.08) (P <0.0001). Conclusions: Although the patient's operating room and cesarean section orientation did not affect mothers' mean blood pressure; it reduced the mean of their heart rate and respiratory rate. It is important for medical staff to play an important role in identifying important strategies in managing the anxiety of pregnant women in order to improve their physiological indicators.

Abstract Whole-grain foods have been reported to affect body weight and satiety. However, we are aware of no study in this regard among children. The present study aimed to determine the effects of whole grain consumption on anthropometric measures in overweight or obese children. In this randomised crossover clinical trial, forty-four overweight or obese girls participated. After a 2-week run-in period, subjects were randomly assigned to either intervention (n 44) or non-intervention (n 44) groups. Subjects in the intervention group were given a list of whole-grain foods and were asked to obtain half of their grain servings from these foods each day for 6 weeks. Individuals in the non-intervention group were asked not to consume any of these foods. A 4-week washout period was applied. Then, participants were crossed over to the alternate arm. The measurements were done before and after each phase. Mean age, weight and BMI of participants were 11·2 (sd 1·49) years, 51·2 (sd 10·2) kg and 23·5 (sd 2·5) kg/m2, respectively. Despite the slight reduction in weight and BMI, there were no significant differences in changes in these anthropometric measures. We found a significant effect of whole grain intake on waist circumference (−2·7 v. 0·3 cm, P = 0·04). No significant changes in hip circumference were observed. Changes in the prevalence of overweight, obesity and abdominal obesity were not significantly different. This study indicated a beneficial effect of whole-grain foods on waist circumference in overweight children; however, these foods did not influence weight and BMI.

Abstract Objectives Postmenopausal women are at greater risk of depression. Depression may negatively affect the quality of life of women. An emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an evidence-based therapy combining cognitive and exposure components with acupressure. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of EFT on depression in postmenopausal women. Methods This was a randomized controlled trial in which 88 women with mild to moderate depression recruited from a menopausal clinic in Ahvaz, Iran, and randomly assigned into two groups of EFT (n=44) and control for sham therapy (n=44). Women in the EFT group received two sessions of training and asked to continue EFT for 8 weeks, one time per day. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI2) completed by women before and after the intervention. The control group received training on sham acupressure points similar to the intervention group. Data collected using a demographic and BDI2. Women requested to complete the BDI2 before and after the intervention. The independent t-test, chi-square, and ANCOVA were used to analyze data. Results The mean depression score in the intervention group reduced from 20.93 ± 4.6 to 10.96 ± 4.38 in comparison to the control group that reduced from 19.18 ± 2.79 to 17.01 ± 6.05 after intervention (p=0.001). After the 8 week intervention, the frequency of moderate depression decreased from 56.8 to 9.35% in the intervention and from 50 to 29.5% in the control group. In total, 63.4 and 34.15% in the intervention and control groups were free of depression respectively after the intervention (p<0.001). Conclusions The results of this study showed that using EFT for 8 weeks could significantly reduce the mean score of depression in postmenopausal women. Using this method in public health centers for postmenopausal women is recommended.

The present study aims to identify the effects of systematic walking on exercise energy expenditure (EEE) and blood profiles in middle-aged women. Fifty-two female nurse managers, aged 32 to 57 years (42.0 ± 6.2), were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG) and a control group (CG) for a 12-week study of the walking program. EEE was measured using a microelectronic device. Blood profiles were assessed before and after the walking program. The mean EEE (kcal/kg/d) in the IG and CG was 4.73 ± 1.02 and 3.88 ± 0.81 ( P = 0.01), indicating an increase of 1.17 ± 0.98 and 0.46 ± 0.68 from baseline ( P = 0.01), respectively. The mean change in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the IG and CG was 1.8 ± 8.3 mg/dL and −2.9 ± 7.0 mg/dL ( P = 0.051); that in insulin was −4.5 ± 7.5 μU/dL and −0.6 ± 4.3 μU/dL ( P = 0.046), respectively. These results show that systematic walking increases EEE and improves blood profiles.

Hemodialysis is a routinely performed therapy on chronic kidney patients, leading to psychological problems among subjects who undergo hemodialysis, such as anxiety and depression. One of the efforts to overcome anxiety and depression is with the dhikr intervention. Dhikr presents hearts to remember and be obedient to Allah followed by the words and actions in various conditions.  Discover dhikr's influence on the level of anxiety and depression in patients on hemodialysis in  Purwokerto Islamic Hospital. It was a quantitative study using quasi experiment with a non-quivalent control group design. The number of samples was 12 subjects consisting of 6 subjects in the control group and six subjects in the intervention group with the purposive sampling technique. Instruments were used to measure anxiety and depression are the HADS ( Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale ) before and after dhikr intervention as much as 12 times. Research is carried out in Hemodialysis Unit of  Purwokerto Islamic Hospital. Test statistics on research are used paired t-test and independent t-tests. This study showed a decrease in the mean level of anxiety from 5, 83 to 1.67 in the experimental group ( p = 0.003). The mean level of depression experienced a decline of 9, 67 becomes 4.67 on a group experiment ( p = 0.003). Dhikr reduces the level of anxiety and depression in hemodialysis patients at the Purwokerto Islamic Hospital.

Background. Moderate-to-severe pain is reported in up to 75% of the patients in the first 48 hours after cardiac surgery. Evidence suggests that distraction is an effective nursing intervention for controlling short-term and transient pain. Distraction can be achieved by various techniques, including progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, and rhythmic breathing (RB). The present research aimed at evaluating the impacts of RB on the severity of sternotomy pain after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG). Methods. This randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted on 60 patients after CABG surgery at the open-heart surgery Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kowsar Hospital, affiliated to Semnan University of Medical Sciences in Semnan, Iran. The patients were selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two groups, including (1) intervention or RB and (2) control groups. RB was performed in the intervention group every 12 hours (9 a.m. and 9 p.m.) for three consecutive days after the surgery. The control group received only routine care for pain control (opioid analgesics) with no additional interventions. The severity of pain was measured every day in both groups of patients before and after the interventions using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results. The mean postintervention pain scores were significantly different from the mean preintervention scores in the intervention group ( p  < 0.05). The changes in the mean pain score in the intervention group were also significantly different from the corresponding changes in the controls ( p  < 0.05). Conclusion. Based on the results, the severity of pain after the intervention was significantly lower in the RB group compared to the control. RB was found to be an effective technique for reducing the patients’ pain and is therefore recommended as a post-CABG pain control technique.
