This article is regarding banking industry of Pakistan. The paper examines the extent to which deposits and advances are dependent on profit and mark up rates respectively. The required data on all the public sector banks and two private banks for six years (1999- 2004) were obtained and analyzed using regression analysis. The results show that the relationship is quite strong in case of saving and current deposits. It has further been concluded on the basis of this analysis that there is a strong Correlation between advances and mark up rates.

The study aimed to investigate the relationship of social responsibility and excellence of the public sector in achieving sustainable development, and to know the relevance of social responsibility and excellence to internal and external environment for Land and Survey Department in sustainable development achievement in Jordan society. T0 achieve this goal the study data was collected from a random sample totalling 120 employees. , Leaders were selected as purposive sample amounting (10), within the sample to investigate the importance of sustainable development from their perspective because they develop strategies of public policies related to national national agenda and government trends within all working methodologies. The study used questionnaire as a tool to gather information. The study found that there is an impact of CSR on excellence and also found the that there is a relationship between social responsibility and sustainable development as well as having the effect of excellence on sustainable development. The study recommended the management of land and Survey Department to empower staff; in order to enhance the work environment and the application of the principle of equality of opportunity and to authorize powers. And to review the laws and legislation that govern department work in line with national developments and aspirations in Jordan, and enhance the investment climate for investors, whether internal or external; in order to support economic development in Jordan.

Banks, a significant part of financial system of a country, are essential for its economic development. They have developed over the years and are faced with the challenges for the bright future. The article discusses development and future of banking sector in India in the light of the reforms over the years and is divided into four parts. The paper traces evolution and significance of banking, discusses reforms during pre-liberalisation and post-liberalisation as recommended by various Committees, namely, Narasimham Committees (1991 & 1998), Verma Committee (1996) and Khan Committee (1997) along with the structural and operational reforms. The performance challenges in terms of fee-based income, profitability, credit deposit ratio, business and profitability per employee are highlighted, comparing the public sector banks and private banks.

Since the banking industry is a knowledge based industry it is essential to transfer the staff recruited into valuable human resources for the banks. It can be done by the provision of adequate skills, knowledge, competences and talents to the human resources. The investment n HRM is essential and inevitable in banking industry, since the return on investment on HRM practices for higher than its cost. With this background, that rate of implementation of HRM practices is banks was analysed. The study revealed that implementation of HRM practices at private sector banks are higher compared to public sector banks. The public sector banks should realise the importance of implementation of HRM practice in order to enrich their performance.

In the post-reform era, quality delivery of the services has acquired centre point of the service industry around the globe. The banking sector being purely a service-related industry has been influenced more by the issue of providing quality service. With the entry of private banks, the banking sector has gone through many transformations including the way services are extended. In a backward state like Assam, this has arrived a little late, but the changes are gradually visible. The chapter captures the service quality standard of the Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) and also for the different bank groups in order to make a comparison. The SERVPERF scale is used to study the replies of the customers in two cities, Guwahati and Tezpur, and some econometric tools are used to analyse the data. The study reveals that the private sector banks are far ahead of the public sector banks in terms of quality of service. The private banks influence the service quality of the SCBs the most among all the bank groups. Overall, the public sector banks, which are the dominant market players, will have to work hard to catch the level of the private banks.

This paper highlights the effects of ‘Public Service Motivation’ (PSM) in public sector organizations. This research explores the relationship between employees’ motivation (intrinsic expectation & extrinsic expectation), goal clarity and employees’ participation with ‘Public Service Motivation’ (PSM). A questionnaire was used in this research to conduct a survey. About 70% response rate was generated out of 300 employees located in different public sector organizations of Hefei city of Anhui province in P.R.China, including health, education and High-Tech firms. The Scope of this study is delimited to the public sector organizations of Hefei City China. The result shows that there is a strong positively significant relationship of employees’ motivation, participation, and goal clarity with ‘Public Service Motivation’ (PSM), which can be further strengthened by innovative organizational culture.

While state legislative rollbacks of public-sector workers’ collective bargaining rights in Wisconsin and other US states in 2011 appeared to signal an unprecedented wave of hostility toward the public sector, such episodes have a long history. Drawing on recent work on “governance repertoires,” this article compares antistate initiatives in Wisconsin in 2011 to two previous periods of conflict over the size and shape of government: the 1930s and the 1970s. We find that while small government advocates in all three periods used similar language and emphasized comparable themes, the outcomes of their advocacy were different due to the distinct historical moments in which they unfolded and the way local initiatives were linked to political projects at the national level. We explore the relationship of local versions of small government activism to their national-level counterparts in each period to show how national-level movements and the ideological, social, and material resources they provided shaped governance repertoires in Wisconsin. We argue that the three moments of conflict over the size of government are deeply intertwined with the prehistory, emergence, and rise to dominance of neoliberal political rationality and can provide insight into how that new “governance repertoire” was experienced and built at the local level.

This study explores the relationship of participative budgeting on budgetary slack in the public sector in Indonesia, by examining the roles of job satisfaction on these variables. A total of 185 budget managers of regional work units in the in North Maluku province government, Indonesia, participated in the survey. The effective rate of return was 82.52 percent.  A structural equation modeling was used to examine the direct and indirect effects of participative budgeting on budgetary slack. In particular, the study gives empirical evidences that participative budgeting factors affect budgetary slack mediated by intervening variables factors of job satisfaction. The results revealed the significantly negative effect of participative budgeting on budgetary slack, the significantly positive effect of participative budgeting on job satisfaction. This result affirmed the significantly negative impact of job satisfaction as a mediating variables on budgetary slack. However, the results could not find the indication of moderating effect of job satisfaction in the relationship of these variables.

There remains a constant need for further empirical research on organisational performance in the public sector, in a bid to generate current and relevant solutions. Such an approach could be a panacea for performance-related problems that continue to affect public organisations in developing countries. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between organisational performance and three input factors; namely, innovation, inter-organisational systems and quality. A quantitative approach using the survey method was used in which a questionnaire was administered to 272 randomly selected managers and employees of a South African government department. Data were analysed using a combination of descriptive and non-parametric statistics. Spearmans rho was used to measure the strength of the relationships and regression analysis was used to measure the extent to which the input factors predicted organisational performance. Spearmans correlations showed strong positive relationships between organisational performance and all three factors while regression analysis also revealed that the three factors predicted organisational performance. The study is significant in that managers in public organisations can use the findings as a diagnostic tool in performance problems, with a view to enhance organisational performance among public sector organisations.

The present study attempts to analyse the cost analysis of the banking industry with special focus on optimum size of a bank. It studies the cost structure, economies/diseconomies as well as the optimum size of public sector banks for the period 1991–1992 to 2013–2014. Economies of scale relating to 26 public sector banks are worked out for selected years. The large banks operated at a scale, reaping economies in all the years, the exception being the year 2004–2005 achieving position of the minimum AC—. For the small banks, there are economies of scale in all the selected years. Both the banks groups did not show diseconomies with respect to total cost, even though there were diseconomies associated with other individual cost items. The minimum efficient size (MES) was attained by all the public sector banks in each of the years selected. JEL codes: D24, D210, D220, D240, D240, D250
