This study is about the impact of ownership structure on bank risk taking with comparison between conventional banks and Islamic banks of Pakistan. Z-Score and SDROA are used as risk taking variables. While managerial ownership, institutional ownership, foreign ownership and block holders were taken as proxies for ownership structure. Ten private commercial banks and four Islamic banks were randomly selected and data have been collected from annual reports of these banks from 2010 to 2016. The result suggested that all the proxies of ownership structure i.e. managerial ownership, institutional ownership, foreign ownership and block holders have significant positive impact on Z-Score. On the other hand using SDROA as proxy for risk taking the proxies of managerial ownership has significant positive impact on SDROA and institutional ownership has significant negative impact on SDROA of banks in Pakistan. On the other hand foreign ownership and block holders have insignificant impact on SDROA. The result of BankID is significant which shows that ownership structure has significant impact on bank risk taking in conventional banks while in Islamic banks ownership structure doesn’t have any significant impact on bank risk.

The decision on the magnitude of dividend has been identified to be highly related to the decisions to pay or not to pay dividends in formulating dividend policy. However, literature seems to be homogeneous and focused on examining the effect of ownership structure on dividend level or probability of paying dividends. Therefore, the paper examines the effect of ownership structure on dividend policy using Heckman’s two-stage technique. Utilizing 304 firm-year observations from industrial and consumer goods firms listed in the Nigerian Stock Exchange for the period within 2009-2019, the result shows that in the first stage, only foreign ownership has a negative significant effect on the probability of paying dividends. However, after accounting for a possible correlation between the probability of paying dividends and dividend pay-out, the result on the second stage exhibits a significant negative effect with block-holders and foreign ownerships on dividend policy while institutional ownership reveals a positive significant effect. The overall results show that the lower the foreign ownership the higher the possibility of paying dividends. Also, higher dividend pay-out is associated with the lower level of block-holders and foreign ownerships coupled with higher institutional ownership in listed industrial and consumer goods firms in Nigeria.

Technological advances and deregulation have driven banks to capitalize their benefits into some diversification activities they choose in the financial industry. This paper investigates the relation between service activities and risk of Indonesian banking industry in the period of 2015-2017. This study employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with path analysis and multiple group analysis of 12 Islamic banks and 38 conventional banks. This study reveals that the Islamic banks appear to have more variable service activities and more stable risk than the conventional banks. For Islamic banks, non-financing income has a negative significant impact on bank risk; while commission income and trading income have a positive significant impact. Further, other non-financing income has a positive impact on bank risk. In the conventional banks, non-interest income has a positive impact on bank risk; while commission income has a negative impact. In addition, trading income also has a negative impact, and other non-interest income has a positive impact. These results imply that the Islamic banks emphasize the importance of expanding new service activities to reduce the risk. In conventional banks, diversified activities contribute to higher income volatility and debt level. Thus, they need to reduce the high cost of depositors which include savings, demand deposits, time deposits, and also interest costs of long-term debt as the sources of fund.

This study examined the ownership structure's effect on the firms' value of quoted manufacturing firms (consumer goods) in Nigeria for 2010-2018. The total numbers of quoted consumer goods firms in the Nigeria stock exchange as of 31st December 2018 were twenty-one (21). A judgmental sampling technique was used to sample nineteen (19) consumer goods firms for the study. The study sought to examine whether ownership structure proxy by managerial Ownership, Institutional Ownership, foreign Ownership, and ownership concentration affect firms' values of quoted consumer goods in Nigeria. Data were collected from secondary sources through the annual reports and accounts of sampled consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The study adopted a panel regression technique as a tool of analysis. The result showed a negative effect of managerial ownership on firm value. While institutional Ownership, foreign Ownership, and Ownership concentration all positively affect the firm value of consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommends that the numbers of shares held by management should be reduced to increase the firm value of the listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria.

The lessons from the 2008 global financial crisis show that excessive risk taking and governance failures contribute to the failure of several banks. As a result, the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and risk taking has been the subject of many studies. However, extant studies report inconclusive results. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between CEO power and bank risk in the UAE using data over the period of 2015–2018 and a sample of 19 UAE banks. The study uses a Pearson pairwise correlation to analyze the relationship between CEO power and bank risk. In addition, a two-tailed t-test is used to examine the differences between conventional and Islamic banks in terms of CEO power and risk-taking. The results of the study show that CEO power measured using CEO duality and CEO tenure reduces risk. Furthermore, the paper indicates that larger boards and higher CEO ownership tend to increase risk. The study also reports that conventional banks have higher return variability, larger boards and powerful CEOs than Islamic banks. However, Islamic banks tend to have higher non-performing finances than conventional banks. The study provides important insights on the relationship between CEO power and bank risk and concurs with earlier studies. The findings can be of interest to policy makers and can be used as input data for the development of corporate governance mechanisms. Shareholders can also use the survey results as input when appointing a CEO for their banks.

The purpose of this study was to determinate the effect of firm size and ownership structure such as manajerial ownership, institutional ownership and foreign ownership towards intellectual capital performance. The method of this study is quantitative. The population in this study was banking sector company in Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2015 until 2017.The sample of this study determined by purposive sampling. Data analysis techniquefor hypothesis testing using multiple regression analysis. The result of this research showed that ownership structure such as manajerial ownership, institutional ownership and foreign ownership have no significant effect while firm size has positive and significant effect to intelectual capital performance. This happens because the proportion of manajerial ownership is low and the institution investor more focused on maximizing profit as short term goals so institution investor seing IC as charges rather than expenses of investment-generating future economic benefit.Based on the results oh this study,  it can be suggested that: (1) Company should increase their asset in regard to increase the firm size so company had more financial funding to manage their IC performance and create more value added, and (2) For further researcher, it is suggested to increase the number of sample companies, add other variables and use other proxy in subsequent research. Keywords: Foreign ownership; Intellectual capital performance; Institutiona ownership; Managerial ownership

This paper investigates whether regulatory pressures have an impact on the relationship between change in capital and bank risk-taking. On the basis of a well developed theoretical background, capital regulation constitutes the core of prudential regulation within the banking sector. Several researches have investigated this relationship between capital and risk in conventional banks, and this subject has gained in interest since the last financial crisis. This study is one of the few studies that have attempted to provide empirical evidence on this issue for Islamic banks. We use data of Islamic banking sectors over the period 2010–2014. The results reveal that Islamic banks tend to behave differently at each level of capital adequacy. In addition, we provide some evidence that change in capital is positively related to the change in risk for highly capitalized Islamic banks.
