The paper presents results from simulation analysis of the western 3rd ring road project in the city of Krakow (i.e. Trasa Lagiewnicka, Trasa Pychowicka and Trasa Zwierzyniecka), performed in the macroscopic model of transport system in the Krakow metropolitan area. Simulation works reveal shifts in traffic flows and changes in urban transport network performance which would likely take place after the stage-wise construction of consecutive 3rd ring road western sections. Results indicate that the analysed road schemes would indeed have a relevant impact upon travel conditions, though in initial stages these would be rather limited and confined to the southern part of the city. Therefore, completion of the whole western section of the 3rd ring road is crucial to its overall effectiveness and would only then bring substantial benefits on a city-wide scale. Simulation works seem to confirm that the future 3rd ring road would become an essential and highly-utilised link in the urban road network and would provide a much more efficient connection between the northern and southern parts of the Krakow city. However, apart from the projected benefits, it is also important to underline potential negative implications – and consequently, further changes in city transport system should envisage reduction of the road network capacity within the inner-city area. This would then provide the best possible chance of fostering the improvements achieved with the 3rd ring road scheme: i.e., positive changes in accessibility and travelling conditions across the whole city and long-term, sustainable traffic congestion relief in the inner-city Krakow area.

The transport system plays an important role in human activities and is an integral part of the successful functioning of the urbanized area. The increasing degree of provision of urban residents with transport services should at the same time keep the environment environmentally friendly and sustainable over time. The article is devoted to the issues of ensuring the rational functioning of the city transport system based on the development and implementation of an intelligent road infrastructure management system, the intellectual core of which are simulation models of problem areas of the road network. The objective of the study is the development of tools for organizing traffic in the conditions of the rapid growth of the fleet of vehicles. Research tasks were to analyze the research in the field of traffic management, to consider methods to reduce and prevent traffic jams on roads in general and in individual sections in particular. The following research methods were used: methods of system analysis, methods of modeling traffic flows, simulation, computer experiment. Achievements: the developed simulation model can be used to conduct a computer experiment in order to select the optimal parameters for the functioning of traffic lights on a specific section of the road network of the city of Naberezhnye Chelny

Progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is being evaluated through the use of indicators. Despite the importance of these indicators, the academic community has done little in terms of a critical reflection on their choice, relevance, framing and operationalization. This holds for many SDG domains, also for the urban sector domain of target 11. To partially address this void, we aim to critically review the UN methodology for the urban access indicator, SDG indicator 11.2. In discussing its conceptual framing against the background of paradigm shifts in transportation planning, we argue that this indicator has a number of shortcomings. The most important one is that it is supply oriented and measures access to transportation infrastructure, rather than accessibility to activity locations. As an alternative, we develop two accessibility indicators that show substantial variation in accessibility across geographical areas. We implement all indicators for the city of Bogotá in Colombia, using a geo-information based approach. Our results show that SDG indicator 11.2 fails to represent the transport reality well. Its supply oriented focus neglects transport demand, oversimplifies the transport system and hides existing inequalities. Moreover, it does not provide useful evidence for targeting new interventions. The proposed accessibility indicators provide a more diverse, complete and realistic picture of the performance of the transport system. These indicators also capture the large spatial and socio-economic inequalities and can help to target improvements in urban transportation.

In view of the phenomenon that the affected area is broader, more severe losses and more difficult to relief in the urban agglomeration after major natural disasters,it is proposed that transport system reliability calculation method which based on BP neural network model.First of all,analyze the urban transport system network after a disaster, using the weight contribution rate analysis method to extract the key nodes in the network; Second, re-integrating the extracted nodes and establishing a new road network model which based on BP neural network;Then, using the cut set algorithm computing network reliability, and combined with the extent of damage of the road network after a disaster, putting forward the calculation method of urban agglomeration road network reliability after disasters; Finally, for example as changsha-zhuzhou-xiangtan urban agglomeration, examining the authenticity of the method.

A proposed road project inside a campus that will have to down trees from its mini forest have attracted different public opinion among the faculty and students. In this paper, we would like to justify our view objectively based on transportation engineering point of view. The Ideal Flow Network (IFN) method was used to do the analysis because its source code is publicly available for clarification. The network data is based on previous study of Ateneo Traffic Group report. Two scenarios were set: based scenario that represents the current road network, and two proposed scenario that represents the current road network with additional proposed road in two ways and one way respectively. Analysis of the results show that the total network travel time of the proposed scenario are increased by 4.69% and 2.32% respectively for two ways and one-way scenarios. The network speed will be slightly improved by 0.03% in when the proposed road project is added in two ways. Thus, we failed to justify that the proposed network has better network performance.


Transport issues in urban centers are rising at an exponential rate and are characterized by congestion, high motorized vehicles growth, vehicular and noise pollution, road accidents and parking space constraints. Present public transport and Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) modes are inefficient and do not cater to the needs of 31.23% of urbanized population in India, which is poised to grow up to 71% by 2031 (MoUD, 2015). Lack of accessibility in public transport and NMT has compelled commuters to opt for private transport modes such as twowheelers and cars, in order to have access to work, education and other leisure activities. The paper aims to assess the finances allocated to urban transport system in the city of Pune under the jurisdiction of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The authors intend to critically review the city budget and its contribution to sustainable modes of urban transport. The key research questions are: - a) whether the budget distributes enough revenue to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of public transport modes and NMT as guided in the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) of 2006? b) does the local government continue to invest in temporary urban transport solutions catering to the needs of private modes of transportation? The results further show that PMC’s budget allocation is not favoring sustainable modes of transport as much as it is catering to other urban transport infrastructure and utilities. The paper concludes with recommendation on ways of innovative financing methods to make public transport sustainable and discusses various case studies of best practices followed globally pertaining to sustainable urban transport system.

The results show that PMC’s budget allocation is not favoring sustainable modes of transport as much as it is catering to other urban transport infrastructure and utilities. The study thereby suggests sufficient allocation of the city’s budget towards the creation of sustainable transportation. Lastly, the paper concludes with recommendation on ways of innovative financing methods to make public transport, sustainable and discusses various case studies of best practices followed globally pertaining to sustainable urban transport system.

Modern conditions of the development dictate new conditions for the improvement and operation of urban transport. It is primarily due to the heavy traffic of urban transport networks and a change in the approaches to their exploitation. However, the objective economic situation does not provide opportunities for the full use of its potential. Thus, the full and rational use of existing opportunities becomes possible only in case of determining the priority directions of its development, and, accordingly, their implementation, which in turn updates the research and forms its purpose. In this way, the involvement of foreign experience in the operation of the urban transport system, taking into account national realities, is of great importance. The main approaches to the elements of the urban transport are defined. The key components of this system are outlined. The main models of regulation and financial provision of the urban transport system have been investigated. The experience of European countries in this area has been systematized. The main directions of the development of the urban transport systems in Ukraine have been proposed.

The complex analysis of traffic system safety in Nigeria based on qualitative and simulation modeling was performed. These models allow us to perform a preliminary assessment of measures aimed at safety improvement of the traffic system situation in Nigeria, and to make projections to improve the parameters of the transport system. In this paper, the results of the system analysis of the transport network safety in Nigeria based on qualitative and simulation modeling are presented. The qualitative model of transport network safety and the model of system dynamics is developed, the safety measures based on simulation are suggested. The obtained results could be used for support of decision making in the field of transport network management in Nigeria. The experiments were conducted on qualitative models, they showed the effect on the transport system parameters of such measures: increasing fines for violations of the road regulations and increasing of the funding of the road repairing and construction. The support organization in decision-making in the management of the urban transport system development is very important. This problem can be solved with the use of different approaches. The use of qualitative and dynamic-system modeling for complex analysis of the transport system and evaluation of measures effectiveness aimed at improving its safety is proposed in this paper.

The transport network of cities can be represented as a complex of streets and passages, as well as elements of public transport infrastructure unconnected with the street and road network. It is reasonable to represent the real network in the form of a simplified network based on graph theory to analyze the properties of the transport network. There are various methods of network connectivity assessment, including those based on various indices. According to all indicators in the street and road network of the city of Petrozavodsk it is necessary to increase the number of units. The implementation of recommendations for changes of the street and road network of the city of Petrozavodsk will reduce traffic congestion, the number of accidents and transport expenses. It is recommended to use the proposed method to assess and improve the street and road network of cities.
