Aim: The purpose of this pilot study was to quantify the effect of a continued active video games (AVG) playing on the tennis forehand and backhand technique development. Methods: Altogether 24 tennis players (7 – 9 year olds) were randomly divided in two different groups, both involved in a 12-week tennis training program (twice a week for an hour). The participants in the experimental group received an additional twice a week (20-minute) AVG Virtua Tennis 4 game intervention at the end of each regular tennis training hour, while the participants in the control group received no additional intervention. Pre- and post-AVG intervention, the Tennis Rating Score for Children scale (TRSC) was applied to detect tennis training-related changes that occur in each specific stroke. Results: Our results at the post-test show that participants in the experimental group did not significantly improved in one element (TRSC12; p = 0,317) in the forehand stroke and two (TRSC10; p = 0,157 and TRSC12 p = 0,157) in the backhand. The control group significantly improved in all the fifteen evaluated elements in both the forehand and backhand stroke. The experimental group had a higher effect size in all the kinetic chain section in both the forehand and backhand stroke compared to the control. The same happens for the TRSC7 (point of contact – height). Conclusion: Prolonged AVG playing seems to improve visual attentions skills (perception of a moving object) in young tennis players, giving them the opportunity to be able to prepare themselves for the oncoming ball sooner as compared to their control counterparts. From the other perspective, AVG were shown to negatively affect correct players positioning, especially at the beginning and at the end of a stroke. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of active video games Nintendo Wii and Wobel Board balance exercises on static balance development in children aged 6 years.          54 children, participated in the research voluntarily on informed consents from according to Helsinki criteria by taking permission from Mersin University Ethics Committe. The study was carried out with 3 groups with similar physical characteristics (mean age = 6,21, mean weight= 21,3, mean height = 116,8). The balance training were applied to a group with a 'wobble board' and another group with a 'nintendo wii game console' from active video games. The pre and post test static balance measurements of all groups were measured using the 'Balance Error Scoring System' and the differences between the groups were examined. For parametric results, 3x2 repetitive measurements were performed with anova analysis, and for non-parametric results kruskall wallis test was applied.         There was no significant difference between the groups participating in active video game and wobble board balance training in the measurements made after the study (p>,05). The difference between the experimental group and the foot and tandem position were found statistically significant. (p <,01). There was no significant difference between the two groups in paired feet values (p>, 05).         Both the wobbel board and the active video game training have been found to improve the static balance in children. It has been seen that there is no meaningful development in the control group. This result shows us that active video games are as effective as balance training in 6 years old children. In this context, active video games can be proposed as an alternative method to improve balance.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file. Özet Bu çalışmanın amacı, 6 yaş çocuklarda aktif video oyunları nintendo wii ve wobble board denge antrenmanlarının statik denge gelişimleri üzerine etkisini incelemektir.        Araştırmaya, 54 çocuk, Mersin Üniversitesi etik kurulundan izin alınarak Helsinki kriterlerine uygun olarak katılmıştır. Çalışma benzer fiziksel özellikte (yaş ort.=6,21, kilo ort.=21,3, boy ort.=116,8) 3 grupla  yürütülmüştür. Denge antrenmanları haftada üç gün 8 hafta ‘wobble board’ denge tahtası ve aktif video oyunları ‘nintendo wii oyun konsolu’ ile uygulanmıştır. Kontrol grubuna ise herhangi bir uygulama yaptırılmamıştır. Tüm grupların statik denge ölçümleri ‘Denge Hata Skoru Sistemi’ kullanılarak ölçülmüştür.Parametrik sonuçlar için, çalışmada 3x2 tekrarlı ölçümler anova analizi yapılmış, non-parametrik sonuçlar için ise kruskall wallis testi uygulanmıştır.       Araştırma sonrasında aktif video oyunu ve wobble board denge antrenmanına katılan gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak manidar fark bulunmamıştır (p>,05). Deney gruplarının, zeminde ve köpükte tek ayak ve tandem duruşlarda bulunan fark kontrol grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı (p<,01) iken, çift ayak değerlerinde, üç grup arasında da anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır (p>,05).       Hem wobble board hem de aktif video oyunları nintendo wii denge antrenmanlarının çocuklarda statik dengeyi geliştirdiği bulunmuştur. Kontrol gurubunda ise anlamlı bir gelişimin olmadığı görülmüştür. Bu sonuç bize aktif video oyunlarının 6 yaş grubu çocuklarda denge antrenmanları kadar etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda aktif video oyunları dengeyi geliştirmek için alternatif bir yöntem olarak önerilebilir.

Given the cultural emphasis on academic achievement and environmental constraints to physical activity (PA), active video games (AVGs) may be used to decrease sedentary behavior and increase PA of Hong Kong children. This study explored the potential of a school-based AVG intervention on sedentary time, PA, body composition, and psychosocial factors among children. Eighty-seven children (intervention n = 30) were recruited from one primary school. Classes in Grades 4–6 were allocated to either the intervention group or the control group in a 2:1 ratio. The eight-week intervention involved children playing AVGs in an after-school class twice a week. Participants in the control group continued with their usual activities. Outcome included the change of participants in sedentary time, PA, percentage body fat, body mass index (BMI), and psychosocial variables (enjoyment, self-efficacy and social support), from baseline to eight weeks. No significant group differences were observed in sedentary time (−33.9 min/day, 95% CI −70.8 to 4.8; p = 0.07). The intervention group significantly increased total PA (53.7 counts/min, 95% CI 8.6 to 104.2; p = 0.04) compared with those in the control condition. No differences were found in body composition and psychosocial variables. However, significant treatment effects were found on BMI z score among boys (−0.1, 95% CI −0.2 to 0; p = 0.04). An eight-week school-based AVG intervention delivered during after-school hours was effective in increasing activity levels among Hong Kong children. The treatment effects of AVGs on sedentary behavior and body composition need to be further demonstrated in a more robust study, especially in boys.

Background: ‪The purpose of this study is to examine whether functional training has an impact on biomotor skills of 10–12-year-old girls. Material and methods: ‪The study involved 20 girls (10 controls and 10 subjects) – who had been playing tennis for at least 2 years. A routine tennis training program was applied to the control group of tennis players participating in the study: 4 days a week, 90 minutes a day for 8 weeks. A 2+2 training program (2 days routine and 2 days functional training) was applied to the experimental group of tennis players for 8 weeks, 4 days a week, 90 minutes a day. At the end of the training program, biomotor tests were conducted. Results: ‪There was not any significant differences when the pre-test and post-test values of the control group of tennis players who performed traditional tennis training were compared with their biomotor skills and Wingate anaerobic power (p> .05). When the pre-test and post-test values of the experimental group of tennis players with 8-week functional tennis training were compared with their biomotor skills and Wingate anaerobic power, a significant difference was found in all variables (p <0.01). Conclusions: ‪The obtained data shows that the "functional training" programs implemented together with "routine tennis training" can positively improve the biomotor characteristics of 10–12 year-old girl tennis players.

BACKGROUND Childhood overweight and obesity have become a major global health problems and have been shown to be negatively related with cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) level in school children and adolescents. Exercise, specifically multi-component training, is effective on CRF improvement but the main challenge is to ensure adherence to exercise in children with overweight and obesity. Therefore, the implementation of new ways of exercising more attractive and motivational for this population is needed and playing or training with active-video games (AVG) have been proposed as a good alternative because require full-body movement and therefore increase energy expenditure. OBJECTIVE The main aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an AVG intervention combined with multicomponent training on CRF at both maximal and submaximal intensities in children with overweight or obesity. In addition, the study aims to examine the relationships between body composition and CRF variables in children with overweight and obesity. METHODS 28 children (13 girls) aged 9 to 11 years with overweight or obesity were divided into two groups, an intervention group (n=20) that participated in a 5-month AVG exercise program combined with multicomponent exercise, and a control group (n=8) that continued their daily activities without modification. A maximal stress test to measure CRF using a walking-graded protocol with respiratory gas-exchange was performed by the participants. RESULTS AVG group showed a significant decrease of the AVG group on HR and VO2 for the same intensities on the submaximal stages of the maximal treadmill test, showing also lower VO2 percentage according to their individual maximal oxygen uptake, while the control group did not show overall changes. No change in VO2peak was found. CONCLUSIONS A 5-month intervention of AVG combined with multicomponent exercise had positive effects on CRF at submaximal intensity, showing lower HR and VO2 at the same intensities and displaying a lower VO2 percentage according to their individual VO2peak. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of positive learning on happiness, Aggression and hope for adolescents with leukemia in Ahvaz. The sample consisted of 30 people who were selected by available sampling method. 15 subjects in the experimental group and 15 in the control group were randomly assigned. The experimental design was a pre-test-post-test type with control group and follow-up period. Measurement tools included Oxford Happiness Inventory (Argyle, 1989); Ahwaz's Aggression Questionnaire (Zahedifar, Najarian, and Shokrkon, 2000); Hope Scale (Schneider, 1991). To run, at first, the pre-test was taken from both groups. Then, the experimental group was trained in 14 sessions of 90 minutes, and after each group, they were subjected to post-test. And one month later, the follow-up process was completed. Data analysis was performed using multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA) and one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that positive attitudes toward happiness, aggressiveness and hopefulness of adolescents with leukemia in Ahvaz were effective.

This study is aimed at finding out the effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students’ achievement in reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text. Experimental design was applied in this research. The population was the 2014/2015 second year students (grade XI) of SMA Swasta YAPIM Medan. There were two paralel classes that consisted of 34 students. The total number of the population were 68 students. The total number of the sample were 68 students. The researcher selected the sample by using total sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy while the control group was taught without using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy. The data were taken by administering the pre-test and post-test to both control and experimental groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of computing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed (5.61) is higher than t-table (1.99) with the degree of freedom (df= 66) at the level significance 0.05. It means that the alternative hypothesis stating that there is a significant effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students’ achievement in reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text is accepted. This thesis is focused on the investigation of the effect of applying animal cartoon pictures on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This study aims to find whether applying animal cartoon pictures significantly affect the students’ writing achievement or not. The data in this study were obtained by administering a written test. The population was the 2015/2016 first year (grade XI) of SMA Swasta Nusantara Lubuk Pakam and 66 students were taken as the sample by using random sampling. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught by applying animal cartoon pictures while the control group without animal cartoon pictures (x = lecturing). The data were taken the scores from the pre-test and post-test to both experimental and control groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of computing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed is higher than t-table (5.21 >1,67) with the degree of freedom 64 (df =N-2) at the level significance 0,05 one tail test. It showed that the application of animal cartoon pictures significantly affected the students of SMA Swasta Nusantara Lubuk Pakam achievement in writing narrative text.

This study was conducted to know the effect of applying Peer Review Strategy on the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph. It was conducted by using experimental research method. This research design was conducted pre-test, post test in experimental and control group. The population of this research was the eight (VIII) grade students of SMP IT IQRA’ Medan. The sample of this research was taken by lottery technique. They were in class VIII-1 by experimental group and the class VIII-2 by control group. The experimental group was taught by using Peer Review Strategy while the control group was given no treatment. The instrument used to collect the data was writing essay test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result showed that the value of t-observed was higher than the value of t-table. (3,55 > 2,05 (a = 0.05)) with the degree of freedom (df) = 28. It means that there was a significant effect of applying Peer Review Strategy on the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.

          Peer teaching is a strategy that allows the students to teach the new content to each other, and they must be accurately guided by instructors.     The researcher proposes that the use of students peer teaching  may promote students' achievement  and ensure the engagement of all the students in the learning process. Therefore, the researcher employs it as a teaching method aiming at investigating its  effect on Iraqi EFL students' achievement in the course of Library and Research Work .      The study hypothesizes that there is no significant difference between the students' achievement who are taught library and research work by students peer teaching  and that of the students taught by the traditional way. The experimental design of the study is Parallel Groups, Random Assignment, posttest. Each group consists of 35 students, chosen randomly from the Third Year Students at the Department of English in the College of Basic Education. Both groups were matched in terms of their age and parents' education. The experiment was fulfilled in the first course for 15 weeks during the academic year 2016-2017.       The same materials were presented to both groups. This included   units from Writing Research Paper by Lester D. . Post-test was constructed and exposed  The t-test for  independent samples was used to analyze the results and it is found out that there is a statistical difference between the two groups in their achievement because the calculated t- value 2.635 is bigger than the tabulated t- value which is 2.000, and also shown the superiority of the experimental group. The results indicate that the experimental group, who was taught Library and Research Work by peer teaching   was better than the control group, who was taught according to the traditional way. So, the null hypothesis is rejected. Finally, some recommendations and suggestions are presented in the light of the study findings. to a jury of experts to verify its validity and it was administered to both groups.
