The advent of the Internet in Malaysia in 1998 has changed the world of journalism from conventional to digital. For that, all journalists need to be prepared with various skills in order to meet the needs of the current audience so as not to be left behind. However, not all journalists are ready to face the changes that occur in the world of journalism which require them to handle various tasks simultaneously (multitasking) either in terms of writing news, taking photos, and editing videos. This study uses in-depth interviews involving eight print journalists and broadcast comprising Malays, Chinese, and Indians in two states in Malaysia with more than 10 years of experience in journalism. The objective of the study is to examine journalists' views on the world of journalism, among others in terms of skills, technology, challenges, and future. The findings of the study found that journalists, regardless of print or broadcast media are now facing major challenges in maintaining the printing industry, especially with declining sales in the market. The results of the study also show that all media agencies are now actively transitioning from conventional to digital media to prepare journalists and enable the mainstream media to remain relevant in this industry. The findings also revealed that competition from social media platforms has seen media agencies exploiting the platform to compete accordingly in providing ethical news reports with regards to their 'house-style' as well as guided by authentic sources.

Digital media and network communication technology have not changed this setup, but rather have opened the possibility for encountering and experiencing additional types of worlds and performing additional types of spatial practices. Being situated online and being globally networked with the possibility of both synchronous and asynchronous communication, digitally mediated worlds provide possible interactions between users which are radically more independent of time and place than the ones facilitated by older media. From this perspective, the concept of online worlds both challenges and broadens our understanding of how media shape the world and how the media technology creates new social structures.

The media influence politics by providing intelligence and arena for political statements. Therefore, the danger of spreading false information and deliberate disinformation can have serious consequences. It is impossible to accuse specific media outlets of unfair coverage, but one cannot fail to note the existing resonance in media reports from different countries. Interpretations of the same events are radically different, while a journalist must rely on facts. The world is faced with the problem of global misunderstanding and information discord. Modern international broadcasting plays an important role in shaping the picture of the event for the world community. It is impossible to deny that the information agenda of many foreign broadcast media depends to some extent on a number of reasons: nationality, foreign policy of his state, profitability. Otherwise, the global media would not contradict each other. We want to track how modern foreign broadcasting builds its agenda and what principles it is guided by. While metrics have long played an important, albeit fraught, role in the media and cultural industries, quantified indices of online visibility—likes, favorites, subscribers, and shares—have been indelibly cast as routes to professional success and status in the digital creative economy. Against this backdrop, this study sought to examine how creative laborers’ pursuit of social media visibility impacts their processes and products. Drawing upon in-depth interviews with 30 aspiring and professional content creators on a range of social media platforms—Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, and Twitter—we contend that their experiences are not only shaped by the promise of visibility, but also by its precarity. As such, we present a framework for assessing the volatile nature of visibility in platformized creative labor, which includes unpredictability across three levels: (1) markets, (2) industries, and (3) platform features and algorithms. After mapping out this ecological model of the nested precarities of visibility, we conclude by addressing both continuities with—and departures from—the earlier modes of instability that characterized cultural production, with a focus on the guiding logic of platform capitalism.

This paper examines databases of female experts as tools to promote gender parity in the sources consulted and cited by journalists. To do this, we conducted a search of databases available online (n = 88) and carried out in-depth interviews with people in charge of these databases (n = 4) as well as a survey among female scientific researchers included in the database of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists of Spain (AMIT) (n = 919). The main results reflect the great potential of these tools but indicate that, to be effective, they require fluid communication with the media and a design that allows their incorporation into the regular routines of journalists. In Spain, their impact is still low and, as in the rest of the world, there is great fragmentation of resources accompanied by very weak interaction among the different initiatives. Resumen Se presenta un análisis de las bases de datos de mujeres expertas como herramientas para fomentar la paridad de género en las fuentes que consultan y citan los periodistas. Para informar nuestro trabajo, hemos llevado a cabo una búsqueda de las bases de datos disponibles online (n=88). En un segundo momento, la completamos con la realización de entrevistas en profundidad con las directivas al frente de estas bases (n=4) y con la realización de una encuesta a expertas científicas que participan de la base de datos de la Asociación de Mujeres Investigadoras y Tecnólogas de España (AMIT) (n=919). Los principales resultados reflejan el alto potencial de estas herramientas e indican que, para que resulten eficaces a la hora de sumar diversidad en la selección de fuentes expertas, requieren una comunicación fluida con los medios y un diseño que permita incorporarlas a las rutinas habituales de los periodistas. En España su impacto aún es bajo y, al igual que ocurre a nivel global, se aprecia una alta fragmentación de los recursos junto a un nivel casi nulo de interacción entre las distintas iniciativas.

This research paper inspected the role of Pakistani media to protect indigenous languages and culture in Pakistan. The study examined the situation; if Pakistani media outpours concern with the native languages or not. The article also checked the media landscape, its language-wise segregation and scenario of literacy in different areas of the country. The outcomes of the study showed that Pakistani media is neglecting the indigenous languages. The study results exhibited clearly that media houses’ focus on protecting native languages, is not profound. The findings also showed that foreign ownership of Media houses plays a role in neglecting indigenous language promotions. The current study presented that Pakistani mainstream media is damaging the local and native languages. The study was the outcome of qualitative content analysis and in-depth interviews of senior communication experts.

Abstract: Nagari Pariangan as the most beautiful tourist village in the world has a place to help the community's economy, increase local revenue (PAD). Local industrial products that have been owned by the community can become souvenirs for visiting tourists. However, in fact Nagari Pariangan does not have the media to promote it. This study aims to analyze the convergence of media in marketing the local industrial handicraft products of the community. This research approach is descriptive qualitative, with data collection methods, namely by means of observation and interviews and literature review. The results of this study reveal that Nagari Pariangan is an area with tourism potential that has become the spotlight of the world, there is a need for a media that helps the community in introducing local Nagari products in order to increase local community income. The main key to convergence is digitization, Nagari Pariangan does not yet have digital media as a forum for supporting community industrial output. Based on the 3C technology dimension (Communication, Compute and Contents), which consists of the IT Industry, Telcom Infrastructure Provides, and the Content Industry. Nagari Pariangan is considered capable of building a digitalized medium, in order to be able to make the economy of the people in areas that have tourism potential much better.     Keywords: convergence; craft produk; media  Abstrak: Nagari Pariangan sebagai desa wisata terindah dunia memiliki wadah untuk membantu perekonomian masyarakat, menambah pendapatan asli daerah (PAD). Hasil Industri lokal yang selama ini dimiliki oleh masyarakat bisa menjadi oleh-oleh bagi wisatawan yang berkunjung. Namun, pada kenyataanya Nagari pariangan belum memiliki media dalam mempromosikannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan analisis konvergensi media dalam memasarkan produk kerajinan industri lokal masyarakat. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif, dengan metode pengumpulan data yaitu dengan cara observasi dan wawancara serta kajian literatur. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa Nagari Pariangan merupakan daerah dengan potensi wisata yang sudah menjadi sorotan dunia, dan perlu adanya sebuah media yang membantu masyarakat dalam memperkenal produk lokal nagari agar bisa menambah pendapatan masyarakat setempat. Kunci utama konvergensi adalah digitalisasi, Nagari Pariangan belum memiliki media digital sebagai wadah dalam mendukung hasil industri masyarakat. Berdasarkan dimensi teknologi 3C (Communication, Compute and Contents), yang terdiri dari IT Industry, Telcom Infrastructure Provides, serta Content Industry. Nagari Pariangan dirasa mampu untuk membangun sebuah media yang digitalisasi, agar mampu menjadikan ekonomi masyarakat di daerah yang memiliki potensi wisata jauh lebih baik.Kata kunci: konvergensi; media; produk kerajinan

As an architect and educator I worry about the intellectual and pragmatic challenges that currently bedevil architectural practice and pedagogy. There are at least seven design fallacies that in various combinations permeate professional practice and studio culture at most schools of architecture. Some are self-imposed and tractable; others are less easily addressed because they are externally driven by the media, technology, globalization and capital. Some are about form-making; others are about social equity and environmental sustainability. All seven are deeply embedded in our architectural psyches. Changing them will not be easy, but change them we must if we want to recuperate architecture and urbanism, as well as invigorate them as a more positive and progressive force in the world.

This chapter reviews the relationship between the media and the Umbrella Movement. The mainstream media, aided by digital media outlets and platforms, play the important role of the public monitor in times of major social conflicts, even though the Hong Kong media do so in an environment where partial censorship exists. The impact of digital media in largescale protest movements is similarly multifaceted and contradictory. Digital media empower social protests by promoting oppositional discourses, facilitating mobilization, and contributing to the emergence of connective action. However, they also introduce and exacerbate forces of decentralization that present challenges to movement leaders. Meanwhile, during and after the Umbrella Movement, one can also see how the state has become more proactive in online political communication, thus trying to undermine the oppositional character of the Internet in Hong Kong.

This chapter explores the Spiritualist movement and its rapid growth due to the formation of mass media and compares these events with the current rise of fake news in the mass media. The technology of cheaper publications created a media platform that featured stories about Spiritualist mediums and communications with the spirit world. These articles were published in newspapers next to regular news creating a blurred line between real and hoax news stories. Laws were later created to address instances of fraud that occurred in the medium industry. Today, social media platforms provide a similar vessel for the spread of fake news. Online fake news is published alongside legitimate news reports leaving readers unable to differentiate between real and fake articles. Around the world countries are actioning initiatives to address the proliferation of false news to prevent the spread of misinformation. This chapter compares the parallels between these events, how hoaxes and fake news begin and spread, and examines the measures governments are taking to curb the growth of misinformation.

AbstractIn recent years, concerns about misinformation in the media have skyrocketed. President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that various news outlets are disseminating ‘fake news’ for political purposes. But when the information contained in mainstream media news reports provides no clear clues about its truth value or any indication of a partisan slant, do people rely on the congeniality of the news outlet to judge whether the information is true or false? In a survey experiment, we presented partisans (Democrats and Republicans) and ideologues (liberals and conservatives) with a news article excerpt that varied by source shown (CNN, Fox News, or no source) and content (true or false information), and measured their perceived accuracy of the information contained in the article. Our results suggest that the participants do not blindly judge the content of articles based on the news source, regardless of their own partisanship and ideology. Contrary to prevailing views on the polarization and politicization of news outlets, as well as on voters' growing propensity to engage in ‘partisan motivated reasoning,’ source cues are not as important as the information itself for partisans on both sides of the aisle.
