scholarly journals Cost Effective Home Automation using IOT and Smartphone

In this paper, a Home Automation system based on IoT that employs the integration of cloud networking, microcontroller, smartphone and wireless communication, to provide the user with remote control of various lights, fans, and appliances within their home using their smartphone and store data onto the cloud is presented. It also has safety and security features. This system is designed to be low cost, easy to install, compatible with existing home appliances and expandable allowing a variety of devices to be controlled. We tackle the problem of high cost, use of proprietary wireless technology by various companies which are incompatible with each other, incompatibility with existing home system and difficulty of use by designing an IoT system which is based on low-cost open source technology.

The home automation system is indeed a system that offers a mobile application to monitor it through the smartphone or tablet. It can control home appliances like light, fans, air conditions, and smart security locks, etc. Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is used for remote control of things. Smart home is essentially how it looks: automating with such an easy touch of a button or a voice command the ability to manage things across the home. Several operations were both simple and extremely low-cost, such as setting up a light to turn on and off at the time of your moment. Others need much more money and resources, including advanced spy cameras. Some people thought that technology is taking a really huge part of our lives. It does! we’re living in a modern generation where smart and intelligent systems are necessary to be there wherever we are to make our lives easier and much better, for example, we can do many things faster, better, and more accurate.

Abstract: With the expansion of Automation technology, life is getting simpler and easier altogether aspects. In the present world, Automatic systems are dominant over manual systems. The rapid increase within the number of users of the internet over the past decade has made the Internet a neighborhood and parcel of life, and IoT is that the latest and emerging internet technology. The Internet of things could also be a growing network of everyday object-from industrial machines to a commodity that can share information and complete tasks while you're busy with other activities. Wireless Home Automation system using IoT could also be a system that uses computers or mobile devices to manage standard home functions and its features automatically through the web from anywhere around the globe, an automatic house is sometimes called a sensible home. It is meant to save a plethora of electrical power and human (manual) energy. The home automation system differs from another system by admitting the user to figure the system from anywhere around the world through an online connection (internet). In this paper, we present a Home Automation system using Blynk Community that employs the mixing of cloud networking, wireless communication, to supply the user with a remote of various appliances within their home and storing the data logs in the cloud. This system is meant to be low cost and expandable allowing a spread of devices to be controlled. Keywords: IoT, Home Automation, NodeMCU, Blynk App, Relay Module

Home Automation Systems are mainly targeted towards people with physical difficulties for movement. The proposed Voice Assisted Home Automation System (VAHAS) enables one to control all electrical equipment and peripheral devices by means of just one’s voice. By means of interfacing the devices (which could include lights, televisions, air conditioners and so on) with the Linux powered main device running our software, via RF enabled switches, the system responds to the user’s voice commands and intelligently activates, deactivates and changes the state of the appliances. The paper elucidates the actual implementation of a low cost device and shows the results produced by the system. Scalability and customer accessibility of the system is also considered during design.

This paper presents technology which deals with low cost and efficient for example Bluetooth technology for controlling yeelight. This is achieved by incorporating java code into artik board. Technology has been developed at a high pace. Furthermore, it will never stop. Web of Things is getting to be prevalent nowadays because of putting tremendous effects on life. To structure an item utilizing current technology that ought to be gainful to the lives of others is an extraordinary test now a world. This paper exhibits cost effective technology for example ble, an artik board, yeelight, and test system simulator. The test system is utilized to control the shade of the yeelight in the scope of ble. The wireless communication has been established between the light and the board. This entire procedure will be incorporated according to popular request/response in accordance with the JSON format. The advantages of the light are it possesses low cost with less utilization of power.

Implementation of home automation using the latest technology gives us more convenience, security and safety. Smartphone affordability increases every year and smartphones have begun to play important roles in our daily lives due to their size and portability. Google’s Android operating system (OS) is one of the leading and most preferred smartphones. Controlling home appliances by using an Android phone gives users the ability to control their home appliances anywhere and at any time while at home and saves time spent in searching for the remote control unit of home automation systems since the user’s phone is usually kept close at hand. This project presents the design and implementation of a low cost prototype of a Bluetooth-based home automation system using an Android phone. The design uses an Arduino Mega 2560-R3 board and the home appliances are physically connected to input/output ports of this board via relays. Cytron BlueBee is used to establish wireless communication between them. BluetoothHome, an Android application, is developed to provide a user friendly graphical user interface (GUI) for the remote control of home appliances.

This article is an attempt to answer the question whether and under what conditions it is beneficial to develop an own intelligent building system, when many free open source systems are available. The publication presents the characteristics of author's own home automation system - sHome, as well as the open-source system - Domoticz, in a configuration that is as close to the functionality of the author's system as possible. The work ends with a comparative analysis of the systems and conclusions from the analysis.

The general Latin American population with a physical disability or limited mobility has faced the daily basis challenge of having autonomy in home activities, with low-income or almost no-income. Needy Brazilian communities are examples of poor populations suffering from the lack of autonomy at home, aggravated by scarce financial resources. The authors developed a low-cost home automation system, aiming to assist people who live in Palmeira dos Indios city and Arapiraca city, needy communities located in the Northeast of Brazil. The system is composed of hardware and software components. The hardware comprises of microcontrollers used to actuate over electrical devices at home, while an Android application provides a simple graphical user interface (GUI) to control the devices using touch and voice commands by Bluetooth communication. They evaluated the system by implementing a home model and providing the home for four physical disability persons and one limited mobility person. They considered the system`s effectiveness, the system`s usability, and users` perceptions during the evaluation.

This paper presents a secure and reliable home automation system in order to make everyone’s life simpler and fulfil the needs of the disabled or the elderly. The paper proposes a system based on efficient smart watch that uses arduino microcontroller which is embedded with a WIFI module and enables us to control a number of home appliances such as lights, fans and others using on/off relay. In our work, the appliances need not to be smart beforehand as arduino would be externally connected to them such that the system designed would be controlled by gestures i.e. users can control the working of the appliances by moving their hand in upward or downward direction over the screen. This system is comparatively efficient and cost effective than other proposed systems in terms of scalability and reliability. Also, the proposed system has been thoroughly tested and verified in various environmental conditions.

- In today’s situation involuntary classifications remain existence favoured over physical system. Home automation is playing significant part in humanoid lifespan. The paper is used intended for nursing and controlling the home-grown utilizations via World Wide Web which container interconnect through home automation system through an Internet entry, by means of announcement conventions. Home automation scheme uses the hand-held or vesture diplomacies as a user boundary. This paper goals at supervisory household utilizations via Smartphone using Bluetooth as announcement etiquette and interfaced with Arduino Board. It assimilates Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor, Temperature sensor, gas sensor, Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensor. At this time PIR sensor and Temperature sensors remained used for controlling the spotlight and fan. The statement through attendant permits the operator to excellent the fitting device. In the proposed organization an android app was developed to access the system wherever via Internet of things. The gas device used to designate the absorption of gas in the air. Buzzer attentive is given to warm others neighbouring home and also the possessor through internet via the smart receiver. The LDR is used to switch garden spotlight. This project provides a low cost and competent Homegrown Computerization System.
