scholarly journals Design of a Hexagonal Solar Fish Dryer

Solar drying is a general methodology adopted to protect agricultural goods, fishes as well as meat in tropical as well as subtropical areas. Drying helps to maintain the quality of product and improve its shelf-life by bringing down the wastage to minimum levels. Conventional driers have lot of limitations like infestation by insect, rodents, other animals, exposure to wind-borne dirt and dust, lack of proper monitoring as well as escalated cost of the automatic dryers. Solar dryers are being used all around the world in different countries in varied models. These dryers are of two different methods one that work with natural convection with air-flow established by buoyancy and the other with air flow by a fan in forced convection mode. This is a paper on the outcome of a solar dryer designed especially for fisherman to dry fishes effectively. A different configuration with an objective to capture major amount of incident solar energy and dry fishes at a faster rate is being suggested as an alternative

Carrot is one of the top ten most important vegetables in the world due to its nutritional contents however, it is highly perishable. One major way to extend its shelf life is to store in the refrigerator but these can only prolong the shelf life for only a few weeks. Therefore, there is the need to research how the shelf life can be extended further. Fresh matured carrots bought from Shasha market in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria were washed with potable water and grouped into 7; each group was subjected to different pretreatment except the 7th group that was left untreated. All the carrot groups were dried in sun for five hours and then packed aseptically into different sterile air tight polyethylene food bags. Each group was replicated and one batch was stored in the refrigerator (4 ± 2°C) while the other batch was stored at room temperature (30 ± 2°C).  At intervals of one week, the samples were monitored for presence of soft rot, wrinkle, weight loss etc.  All carrots stored at 30 ± 2°C got spoiled after first week of storage irrespective of the type of pretreatment they were subjected to. However, pretreated carrots stored at 4 ± 2°C had their shelf life extended with those treated with moringa seed aqueous extract having the best result at 24th week. This work shows that moringa seed aqueous extract can be used to extend the shelf life of carrots stored in the refrigerator.

Objective: To determine the effects of different thermal drying technologies on the total phenol and flavonoid contents (TPC) and total flavonoids (TFC) in sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) leaves. Design/methodology/approach: Solar drying was carried out in outdoor sunny conditions using two direct solar dryers; one with natural convection, the other with forced convection. The total phenol and flavonoid contents in gallic acid equivalents (GAE) and quercetin (Q), respectively, of ethanolic extracts of C. aurantium were assessed with spectrophotometric techniques. Results: The results demonstrated maximum phenol values for the direct natural convection solar dryer (161.4 mg EAG/g MS) and minimum values for shade drying (61.43 mg EAG/g MS). As for flavonoids, the highest values were obtained in the direct forced convection solar dryer (32.22 ± 1.6 mg EQ/g MS), while the lowest was registered in the open air sun (11.72 mg EQ/g MS). Conclusions: Direct solar dryers are technologies effective for maintaining the phenols and total flavonoids content in dried leaves of C. aurantium.

The sphere of fitness develops dynamically and is one of the most profitable in the world and, as a result, investment attractive. Nevertheless, the competitive ability of a fitness club depends on the speed with which the new directions are introduced in it and what range of services they provide to clients. That is why it is important to be able to foresee the most popular trends and the ways of their adaptation to a concept of a particular fitness club. The objective - comparison of world and national trends and an attempt to evaluate tendencies of fitness industry development in Ukraine. Methods. The research is based on the analysis of sources of literature as well as thoughts of experts concerning perspectives of fitness development in Ukraine. Results. The comparison of the world and national (the USA, China, Spain) trends of 2018 has allowed to discover that world trends reflect the USA trends by 95% and only by a half – trends of the other represented countries. It is connected with the fact that in the research for revealing of the world trends out of representatives of 41 countries – 91,3 % respondents are from the USA. The author does not highlight this in the original article. The present fact proves the necessity of research of national trends specifically and not to focus on the «world» tendencies, as they reflect development prospects mostly in one country (USA). This statement is true and for the trends of 2019, because the study of this issue in Spain coincides with the results of the world rating only by 60 %. Conclusions. Such researches have not been conducted in Ukraine, but specialists stress the growth in the popularity of such directions in the future: child fitness, fitness for older adults, experienced and educated fitness professionals, exercise and weight loss, securing safety and quality of fitness services, nutrition guidance (trends are presented in no particular order). In general, fitness professionals consider the necessity of forming fitness culture among the population of various cities and villages of all the regions in Ukraine to be an overriding necessity for the development of the fitness sphere.

The competences of the test and calibration laboratories are provided by two complementary methods. The first of these methods is the on-site audit carried out by the administrative and technical committee established by TURKAK (Turkish Accreditation Institution) according to the requirements of TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 [1]. The other technique is interlaboratory comparison and proficiency testing to evaluate laboratory performance and ensure the quality of results. Investing in the right equipment, training personnel, defining methods, documenting, calculating uncertainty, even performing internal verifications do not guarantee reliability or accuracy. It cannot answer the question of whether we can produce the same results as the same testers in the world. It is necessary to prove that the laboratory can actually produce accurate results externally by going through comparison tests with other national/international laboratories.

In Soi-même comme un autre, Ricoeur defines the personal identity as singular; so, it is the way in which every individual structures a sediment of experiences and  ways of being in the world common within a chronotop, and, a personalized way of reacting to circumstance challenges. Commonly, due to what is shared, the other is an alter ego. Identity is a holon which can not be atomized, as the puzzling cases or Musil’s L’Homme sans qualités intend to do. Ricoeur splits the identity in “mêmeté” and “ipséité”. The first one designates a center of acummulative experiences; the ipséité, the other from the soi-même, that is, the historical or changing quality of the mêmeté. With Bremond and Greimas theories, Ricoeur attributes to the literary narration the best examples of the dialectics between mêmeté and ipséité. Besides, with McIntyre, he considers literary narration as the best way to formulate ethic judgements from the described experiences.

Legitimate postharvest treatment of food produces is a higher priority than the serious and broad cultivating in making sure about nourishment for a country, since misfortunes are a misuse of food as well as they speak to a comparable misuse of human exertion, ranch inputs, jobs, speculations and scant recourses, for example, water. Postharvest misfortunes of agricultural yields when all is said in done and new products of the soil (perishables) specifically are normal issues in creating nations, similar to Ethiopia, which negatively affects the food security program. This is mostly a direct result of their transitory nature, absence of information and deficiency of capital. The other explanation is that a large portion of these perishables are delivered by little scope ranchers the individuals who have restricted information and monetarily poor in the creating nations. Along these lines, assessment of postharvest misfortunes of new foods grown from the ground is exceptionally significant for mindfulness creation to deal with the produce appropriately in order to spare from waste and harms by physical and physiological methods. The destinations of this audit are, hence, to evaluate the accessible writings on the postharvest misfortunes of new foods grown from the ground trying to distinguish need zones of the issue; to distinguish the reasons for misfortunes of perishables so as to dodge the foundations for the decrease of misfortunes; and to distinguish the potential methodologies that can decrease misfortunes and keep up nature of the items during the period.

Abstract The study is aimed to enhance the shelf life of ivy gourd through solar drying method in open, forced and natural convection mode. Ivy gourd is treated as primary agent to prepare medicines and the stems, leaves; flowers are used to cure the diseases related diabetics, ulcer, skin. The normal shelf life is 2-3 days and it can be increased up to 6 months with an effective drying process. The experiment is intended to find the best drying process among the open, natural and forced convection mode with an initial dipping method with ascorbic acid, lemon juice, sugar solution, honey solutions individually and a control sample (without dipping). A 3kg sample of ivy gourd is dipped in 10g/L of the each of the solution and it is used for the three drying process individually. The obtained results are indicating that forced convection method for ascorbic acid is best among the other drying method with highest moisture diffusivity is 7.88×10-8 m2/s and lowest activation energy 21.12 kJ/mol. It was observed that the drying kinetics of ivy gourd should be considered an indicator of efficiency for solar drying technique from environmental safety perspective. The influence of dipping solution and drying mechanisms on the functionalities of drying are discussed with suitable illustrations.

Aim. To determine the quality of diterpene glycoside powders, produced in Ukraine using the stevia leaves of plants of domestic and foreign origin. Methods. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermographic analy- sis. Results. It was demonstrated that the increase in the production of powders of diterpene glycosides in the world results in stepping up the requirements to the selection material of stevia and the quality of powders, obtained from its leaves as a fi nal product. The quality of diterpene glycoside powders, produced in Ukraine us- ing the stevia leaves of plants of domestic and foreign origin, was investigated. Conclusions. It was determined that special attention in the analysis of the powder samples of diterpene glycosides should be paid to the sample preparation: increased humidity of the sample promotes a weakening of carbohydrate bonds and rapid decline in their quality. Differential scanning calorimetry allows determining the content of additives, the degree of moisture saturation, and may further be used in the screening of selection samples and forecasting the shelf life of powders of diterpene glycosides.
