scholarly journals A Research of Technology Adoption in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Yogyakarta

This study compares the impact of different size of SMEs and the age of SMEs on the technology adoption. This survey was conducted on the use of IT in SMEs in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. As a developing country, most of the Indonesian economy is dominated by SMEs. One factor that plays an important role in increasing the competitiveness of SMEs is information technology (IT) adoption. However, not all SMEs have similarities in their efforts to adopt IT. The theory underlying the process of adopting information technology is the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). TAM have 3 main variables. There are Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived usefulness and Acceptance of IT. In this study analyzed differences in IT adoption based on the age of SMEs and the SME category (micro, small and medium). This study also examined differences based on competitive advantage. The results show that there are no significant differences in IT acceptance based on the age of SMEs and they have similarities in competitive advantage. The results of this study provide benefits for SMEs to evaluate their adoption of technology. In addition, this research is also beneficial for the government to develop SMEs in the region. The use of information technology is spreading in the construction field. However, the use of information technology in the construction field does not conform to the requirements and characteristics of users who use information technology. This fact is blindly accepted by the government and client demands, which is an impediment to the dissemination of information technology in the construction field. To improve the use of information technology in the construction field, this study analyzes the factors of acceptance of information technology according to the characteristics of users who use information technology in the construction field based on Davis’ technology acceptance model. As a result of the analysis, we found that if users consider IT in the construction industry easy to use, spontaneous attitude and behavioral intention are to be expected. Moreover, acceptance type, educational satisfaction, usage enjoyment, and usage experience are the factors that impact perceived usefulness, and educational satisfaction and usage enjoyment impact perceived ease of use as well. This study aims to derive factors that maximize the approachability and usefulness of users through the use of a technology acceptance model in construction prior to the application of new information technology in the construction field.

Nowadays, the use of information technology becomes a new business model in which consumers are more open to demand their needs and take over the decision of the ideal product. However, farmers as the producers of agriculture commodities seem to be reluctant to using information technology in selling their products. The study aims to examine the effect of the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of information technology towards the attitude of using information technology in pepper farmers’ marketing practices through the technology acceptance model. The study used face-to-face data collection and a structured questionnaire to obtain the primary data from 100 pepper farmers in Bangka Tengah and Bangka Selatan. The finding of the study shows that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use affect significantly the attitude of using information technology among the pepper farmers in marketing practices. The results will be useful for the government and NGO to provide tools on how to disseminate the technology to potential users.

This research article explores the important elements of trust and transparency to the adoption of e-government services. The Technology Acceptance Model was used as the theoretical framework. The data capture and analyses were conducted with SPSS. The results indicate that trust in the internet was a significant predictor of both the intention to use and perceived ease of use (PEOU), but was not significant in predicting perceived usefulness (PU) and the actual use (AU) of e-government services. Trust in the government (TG) was also not significant in determining both the intention to use and PEOU of e-government services. Rather TG had a significant impact on PU and the actual use (AU) of e-government services. Furthermore, perceived transparency was a significant predictor of PU, IU, and AU of e-government services. The implications of these findings on the implementation of e-government are thoroughly discussed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review existing literature on users’ digital learning acceptance behavior and to identify gaps in the current body of knowledge and suggest future research directions. The paper also includes identification of motivating as well as inhibiting factors previously explored by academicians in the acceptance of digital learning. Design/methodology/approach The systematic literature review based on PRISMA methodology was conducted, and 200 articles from peer-reviewed journals on digital learning acceptance behavior using technology adoption theories were examined. Findings The study found an overall rise in the number of papers published yearly during 2002–2017. Most of the studies were published in two journals, i.e. Computers & Education and Computers in Human Behaviour and were carried out in Asia followed by Europe, North America, Africa, Oceania and South America. It was also noted that most of the studies have used the technology acceptance model and were empirical in nature. The study also found that prominently students’ digital learning acceptance behavior was investigated. The review also indicates a lack of qualitative and mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) approaches to study digital learning acceptance behavior. Practical implications The study identified gaps in the current body of knowledge by reviewing published articles that will suggest future directions for further research. The top three determinants of digital learning acceptance that have been analyzed were the behavioral intention, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, followed by attitude and user behavior. The study articulates the implications for providers in marketing digital learning products, for higher education institution in expanding digital content, for students seeking digital education tools, for educators in motivating students to accept digital learning and for governments in delivering cost-effective public education by utilizing digital learning. Originality/value The paper analyzes 200 publications on digital learning acceptance through technology adoption theories. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first initiative to provide systematic and exhaustive summarization of the knowledge in this subject. It further explores the various factors influencing digital learning adoption behavior and provides avenues for future research. The paper is useful for researchers working on digital learning acceptance behavior.

In this paper, I analyse the impact that a perceived lack of an installed base has on the adoption of technological products. I use the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which considers perceived usefulness and ease-of-use as the central drivers of adoption and propose that the perceived lack of an installed base influences these two drivers. Based on cue utilisation theory, I further suggest that a perceived lack of an installed base can serve as an extrinsic cue of product quality deficiencies and difficulties with obtaining help and advice. In order to verify the supposed effect of a perceived lack of an installed base, I survey 162 households. The data shows that a perceived lack of an installed base of thermal solar systems (1) decreases their perceived usefulness and perceived ease-of-use and (2) acts as a mediator of the perceived risk. The study implies that managers launching technical innovations should develop strategies to influence consumers' perceptions of the current and the future installed base and communicate the development of the installed base to trigger adoption.

AbstractWith the popularization of mobile Internet and smart terminals, mobile reading with diversity and mobility has become a hot issue in the industry and academia. This article comes up with a hypothetical model of mobile reading user acceptance behavior based on the technology acceptance model and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and conducts an analysis of the reliability and validity of questionnaire data. Based on this, the model fitness is analyzed as well as the path hypotheses testing. We find that user-perceived ease of use greatly influences perceived usefulness (path coefficient=0.841), and user attitude (path coefficient=0.860) and behavioral intention (path coefficient=0.154) are significantly impacted by perceived usefulness. The impact of social influence on user attitude toward using mobile reading is significant (path coefficient=0.341), but the influence of perceived payment is not obvious. The moderating effect of living habit is not obvious because the absolute value of the critical ratio is under 2.58 with a significance level of 0.01.

This study aims to determine the acceptance of technology in Islamic boarding schools and their use in terms of physics learning outcomes, it is necessary to conduct research on technology acceptance among Islamic boarding schools. In this study, the acceptance of the technology was measured using the TAM model. Measurements were carried out in several Islamic boarding schools in the Aceh Besar area. The instrument used is a questionnaire on the perception of acceptance of information technology and documentation in the form of students' scores. The results obtained are the perception of students' acceptance of technology consisting of five indicators, namely the perception of PEOU (Perceived Ease of Use), PU (Perceived Usefulness), ATU (Attitude Toward Using), AU (Actual Usage), and B (Behavioral) towards information technology. Towards students tend to be high, and if there is the influence of other variables and not included in the study, so it can be seen that technology acceptance tends to be high. There is a strong relationship between Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU), PEOU and Attitude Toward Using (ATU), and Behavioral Intention (B) and Actual Usage (AU)

Purpose: This study is the first attempt to examine the attitudes of citizens towards six key dimensions of e-governance in the Republic of Mauritius namely: ‘Perceived Ease of Use’ (PEOU) and ‘Perceived Usefulness’ (PU) of the Technology Acceptance Model (Davis,1989); ‘Collaboration’ and ‘Participation’ inspired by Al Athmay (2013); ‘Trust’ from Belanger & Carter, 2008; and ‘Transparency’ from Bhatnagar (2003).  Methodology: A random survey was conducted across all districts and among e-government users only.  Structured questionnaires were filled by 157 citizens mainly on a face to face basis.  Pearson’s correlation coefficients, independent samples T-tests, one way/Welch ANOVA and Games-Howell post hoc tests were used. Main Findings: The respondents revealed positive attitudes towards PEOU and PU but unveiled negative attitudes towards the remaining four dimensions of e-governance.  Citizens’ perceptions were only influenced by age, education, and frequency of e-government use. Lack of trust, absence of online democratic dialog, inadequate e-consultation and non-transparent decision-making may eventually lower trust in the government.   Implications/Applications: This study has generated key insights into the factors influencing citizens’ perceptions towards the six e-governance dimensions (PEOU, PU, Collaboration, Trust, Participation, and Transparency) and these insights were non-existence prior to this research.  Thus this study may aid policymakers to rethink and redesign their e-government initiatives to sustain existing users and attract more users of government websites.

This study explores the impact of perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, and perceived risks of using electronic tax filing (e-Filing) on the intention to use e-Filing through a technology acceptance model framework. The theoretical foundation used in this study is the technology acceptance model (TAM) on 201 valid questionnaires completed by Indonesian taxpayers. The data collected was analyzed by structural equation modelling using SmartPLS (3.0 Version). The results of the study revealed that e-Filing’s perceived usefulness and risk were significantly associated with intention to use, while perceived ease-of-use did not have a significant effect. Although the influence of perceived risks significantly mediated the influence of perceived usefulness, it did not significantly mediate the influence of ease-of-use. Gender was found to significantly moderate the influence of e-Filing’s perceived usefulness, but not to moderate the influence of perceived ease-of-use. Importance-Performance Matrix Analysis (IPMA) finds that the intention to use e-Filing is most strongly influenced by its perceived usefulness and perceived risk. This implies that policymakers must highlight the perceived usefulness and communicate the perceived risks of e-Filing to ensure taxpayers are willing to use the system. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is the first to examine both mediation and moderation to analyze the adoption of technology in Indonesia’s taxation system and offer a policy perspective through IPMA.
