Much eighteenth-century Dissenting educational activity was built on an older tradition of Puritan endeavour. In the middle of the seventeenth century, the godly had seen education as an important tool in spreading their ideas but, in the aftermath of the Restoration, had found themselves increasingly excluded from universities and schools. Consequently, Dissenters began to develop their own higher educational institutions (in the shape of Dissenting academies) and also began to set up their own schools. While the enforcement of some of the legal restrictions that made it difficult for Dissenting institutions diminished across the eighteenth century, the restrictions did not disappear entirely. While there has been considerable focus on Dissenting academies and their contribution to debates about doctrinal orthodoxy, the impact of Dissenting schools was also considerable.

Purpose The abolishment of the wine tax in Hong Kong has led to increased wine consumption and increased demand for wine-related professionals, such as sommeliers. Yet the importance of sommeliers’ value-adding performance in the context of upscale Chinese restaurants has not been examined. To address this gap, the SERVQUAL framework is adopted to examine the influence of sommeliers’ service quality (SQ) on customer satisfaction (CS) and loyalty in the context of upscale Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong. Design/methodology/approach The survey method is used to collect data from 302 units of the population of interest, partial least square-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) is used to test the links between constructs. Findings Four of the seven dimensions of sommeliers’ service quality, namely, empathy, tangibles, credibility and assurance, have a significant positive impact on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty, whereas the impact of perceived value and responsiveness on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty is positive but only marginally significant. Reliability has a weak and non-significant impact on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Research limitations/implications Examining a small number of upscale Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong limits generalisation of the findings to other contexts. Replication of the research in different contexts will enhance generalizability. In terms of implications, the discussion highlights the importance of sommeliers’ service performance on customers’ SQ perceptions SQ, CS and loyalty, all of which are important variables for restaurateurs. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study of the influence of the quality of sommelier’s SQ on CS and loyalty in upscale Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong. Given the lack of attention to this service role in the literature, the study contributes theory from which further understanding can develop.

Internet as media and information technology not only has a positive impact but also harms its users. Teenagers are the most vulnerable group that has an impact on internet use. The impact of using the internet depends on the digital literacy level of its users. This study examines digital literacy's effect on using the internet with Islamic content among urban Muslim teenagers. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The research subjects were 500 urban adolescents as the research sample. Measuring instruments used in this study are the Digital Literacy Scale for Teenagers to measure digital literacy and the Internet Behaviors Scale to measure internet usage behaviour. The result showed that digital literacy had a significant positive effect on internet usage behavior (B = 0.314; t = 13.602; p = 0.000). The higher level of digital literacy of adolescents automatically makes the higher behaviour in using the internet shows that digital literacy is important for using the internet with Islamic content among urban Muslim teenagers.

The aim of this work is to model the impact of sustainability and effectiveness on the efficiency of enterprises. The object of the research is the enterprises of high-tech industries and services of Russia. Their efficiency (profitability) is analyzed in the conditions of the crisis period of 2013–2017. The sample includes 1814 enterprises or 9070 observations (1814 enterprises × 5 years). Research methods: regression analysis of panel data, models with random effects. The dependent variable is the net return on assets. Results: we found that effectiveness and sustainability have a highly significant positive impact on the efficiency (profitability) of enterprises in high-tech sectors of Russia in a crisis. Further research revealed a parabolic relationship (inverted U shape) between the share of borrowed capital in the balance sheet and profitability, as well as between the size of the enterprise and profitability. It is shown that enterprises with high stability of revenue dynamics can achieve higher profitability with effective management of the capital structure. Moreover, capital structure management strategies will be different depending on the stability of revenue dynamics. The maximum profitability values are shown by medium-sized enterprises. High revenue stability provides a slower decrease in profitability for large and small enterprises. The obtained patterns can be used by enterprises of high-tech sectors to increase the efficiency of their activities in the conditions of economic instability.

The combination of study of Information and knowledge leading to wisdom; intellectual expression and scholarly appreciation leading to culture is the very process of learning. When this study is considered of high standard throughout the world, it becomes World Class Learning. Schools are the educational institutions wherein children are guided and trained to be disciplined and enlightened individuals. This responsibility is the onus of educators and greatly influenced by the facilities provided at school. The role of educators is highly regarded and recognized but equally important is the impact of the facilities provided in the schools. The most distinct facility is the library or the resource centre. We as information professionals agree that “Libraries Change Lives” which is a universal truth, for the kind of reference resources and the scholarly works they contain. What is the outcome if the resources are highly valued, are in great condition, well organized, etc. but there are no takers for these resources or the users lack the skills to use the resources? Some of the reasons for this short coming may be due to the absence of proper initiatives, promotion of resources and the services by the librarians. This paper attempts at combining the librarianship skills and literacy skills, resulting in the emergence of practical techniques and to how to apply this knowledge for promotion of the resources available and the services offered. Some tried and tested successful strategies namely Structured Library Periods (SLP), Adopt a Book Project (ABP), Five Best Friends in the Library (D.E.A.T.Y.), Focus Group Discussions (FGD), Application of Multiple Intelligence (MI) Theory for the effective use of library resources by K-2 Students, Use of Open Access(OA) Resources in ZSE RC experimented at the author’s school are presented. These practices are simple, innovative and create a positive impact on the student. They also increase the library’s contribution in achieving the school mission and very easily adaptable by the school libraries or librarians of the developing countries. But there is always scope for refining and improving the strategies tried and tested, in the course of time to suite the ever changing landscape of information and technology and more importantly, to satisfy the ever demanding user and his needs.
