It is also relevant to study and translate our ancestors’ heritage nowadays. The classicalwork “Baburname” was translated into English for several times, and it has undergone thehistory of translation. “Baburname” was translated and published by European orientalistscholars John Leyden and William Erskine (1826), Anette Susannah Beveridge (1921) andWheeler Thackston (1996). Nowadays, these three types of translations are researched incomparative literature, comparative linguistic and translation studies. It's noteworthy that“Baburname” comprises more than ten disci plines related to linguistic and translational texts.In this article a conceptual analysis of religious termsto go to the God’s Mercy, to accomplishthe God’s judgementand phraseological unitto say boo to a gooseare studied. The reader of translations has gained increasing attention in Translation Studies in recent years, with more focused studies looking into the reception of translated works either through textual analysis of reviews (Zhao 2009, Bielsa 2013, D’Egidio 2015, Saldanha 2018) or the analysis of interviews and focus groups with real readers (Arnold 2016). The reception of works by anglophone readers, in particular, has raised interest among scholars who wish to understand the expectations and patterns of literary consumption by a hegemonic, central culture. This article explores how Galician writers Manuel Rivas and Domingo Villar’s work is perceived and re-constructed by an anglophone readership through an analysis of professional (press) reviews and semiprofessional (blog) reviews based on the homogenization- eterogenizationexoticismcontinuum posited by Saldanha (2018).

The article concentrates on the conceptual analysis of new lexical items representing events in modern English and German vocabulary. The material of the research is event neologisms of English and German, expressed by nouns and gerunds. Those new lexical units were mostly retrieved from online sources. The main sources of the collected material are on websites of the dictionary publishing houses, blogs containing information about new lexical units, as well as special programmes aimed at collecting neologisms online, e. g. NeoCrawler, Wortwarte, and OWID. The article provides a model of new event categorisation in English and German languages at three levels: superordinate, basic, and subordinate ones. Each of the levels is structured by a particular frame within the categorisation model. The article provides a comparative analysis of frames underlying formation of new event vocabulary in English and German languages. As a result, the analysis reveals the main differences between frame structures.

ABSTRACTThis article examines the issues and the problems confronted by those conducting comparative research of charity-state relations in England, Canada and the United States. It also provides an explanation of why the interaction between charities and the state is important for political science: in part this is because in all three countries charities have become increasingly dependent on government for their income. In section I, the article examines the relationship between the concepts of a third sector, voluntary sector, non-profit sector and charity and concludes that the last might be the most appropriate to employ in comparative analysis. In section 2, the authors argue that in both England and Canada the state is formally responsible for the formation of certain kinds of charities; they also argue that in the United States a stricter separation between state and charity exists but that, in practice, the boundaries between charities and the state and the market are not clear ones.

Abstract This article is a comparative study of four different translations into English of Federico García Lorca's play Bodas de sangre (1933) carried out in the United Kingdom and Ireland throughout the 1990s. Since the publication of Antoine Berman's seminal article on 'retranslation', this theoretical concept has provided a fecund framework for descriptive translation studies, illuminating the variety of solutions translators provide when confronted with the same original text. This article furthers that body of scholarship while simultaneously providing new angles on Lorca's dramatic work. The comparative approach to several English translations of this classic work concentrates on two key scenes of the play and discusses the linguistic, pragmatic and theatrical adequacy of each translation.

Concepts do not travel; theories do. The distinction is an important one because the concept party identification and its measurement in different contexts provides students of voting with one of a class of problems in comparative analysis. Comparative analysis implies a search for and the development of general laws about human behaviour, laws which are valid across political systems. The way that this search is carried out is through the development, confirmation, and modification of theory. One such theoretical exchange has involved explanations of voting and a major concept in these theories has been “party identification.” The concept is controversial to the extent both that different theories describe it and its role differently and that variations have been observed in patterns of the relationship between some aspects of party identification and political behaviour. However, the role of theory and its status in analysis is problematical in David Elkins' “Party Identification: A Conceptual Analysis.” Comparative analysis requires, first and foremost, that the theory within which any concept is located be specified.

Since its conception in France in 1877, Comparative Literature, always subject to a critique of Eurocentrism, has been in a state of perpetual crisis. In “The Old/New Question of Comparison in Literary Studies: A Post-European Perspective” (2004), Ray Chow argued for a Post-European perspective in which comparatists begin with the home culture and look outwards to the European cultures, contrary to the dominant approach of doing just otherwise. Missing in Chow’s argument is the position of translation in this post-European perspective. In the 14 years between 2004 and 2018, the grandiose claims of comparative literature have been problematized and addressed; the lay of the land, however, remains predominantly Eurocentric, as it still focuses on content disproportionately. In this paper, through a study of English translations of Khayyam’s Rubaiyat, and taking Chow’s argument further, I argue that with its commitment to transfer the form of a text as much as the content, translation studies can further help comparative literature to distance itself from Europe. To exemplify the implication of this, I suggest that a translation of Khayyam’s Rubaiyat from Farsi to English would be more faithful to the original if its translations were to focus on the poem’s form rather than the content. I argue that translating with a focus on form would foreignize Khayyam’s poetry, hence an act of resistance against cultural hegemony.

Partiendo de un texto, a manera de muestra, este análisis comparativo de las versiones en español e inglés desarrolla tres aspectos principales: la contextualización del documento (función, destinatario, género discursivo, etc.); los alcances de la traducción jurídica; y el examen de diez casos que presentan problemas traductológicos de interés para la disciplina. De todo lo expuesto, se extraen algunas recomendaciones prácticas. Using a text chosen as a point of departure, this comparative analysis of the Spanish and English versions addresses three main aspects: the contextualization of the document (function, target audience, genre of discourse, etc.); the scope of legal translation; and the analysis of ten cases of particular interest within the discipline of translation studies. With this basis, practical recommendations are given.

Comparative analysis of the specifics of representation of the concept of LERNEN as a cognitive dominant of the educational discourse in the modern German language textbooks of elementary level for foreigners was carried out. The aim of this research is to identify lexical elements marking the educational discourse of Germany and verbalizing the concept of LERNEN in the textbooks. In line with this aim, the following tasks were set: to reveal and categorize lexical elements representing the concept of LERNEN in all structural components of the selected textbooks; to quantify the revealed representatives and show their relations graphically; to perform both qualitative and comparative analysis of the representatives of the thematic groups of each textbook separately and in comparison with each other. The main method used during the research was conceptual analysis of the educational discourse on the basis of the textbooks of elementary level. The obtained results demonstrate that the representatives of the concept of LERNEN can be divided into 13 thematic groups. Their quantitative ratio was established on the basis of the textbooks. The thematic groups with a predominant number of representatives were determined. All lexical elements representing the concept of LERNEN were qualitatively investigated and their positions in the educational discourse were established. We found the ways of representing the concept of LERNEN as a large and crucial cognitive dominant and marking it with the help of the studied representatives associated with not only the modern educational discourse in the field of foreign languages learning, but also with the educational policy of Germany in general, which is highly relevant because of the high attraction and active influx of foreign students, tourists, and migrants to Germany. The results obtained are of great importance for further research of the cognitive basis of modern German language textbooks.

In particular, scholars have studied the gender phenomenon, gender parameters, as well as the semantic grouping and gynocritical analysis generated through the gender component. A scientific approach to this work has been expressed. In the analysis of the research, it is substantiated by the fact that the issues in this area in Uzbek translation studies are not sufficiently studied.

This article deals with the experience of translating historical novels in translation studies. It provides a comparative analysis of the specific methods of the Uzbek national school of translation studies and the world schools of translation. Moreover, the genesis of translation of Uzbek historical novels, methods of translation, especially the problem of technique in the translation into English, and certain peculiarities of translating historical works are studied here on a scientific basis. As a result, a number of scientific and practical recommendations are given to improve the mechanisms of forming professional competence in the practice of translating historical novels, with the experimental trends of world translation schools taken into account.
