The text presents the journal Opera Slavica published by the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, which is a specialized philological journal that publishes articles, reviews and academic materials in the field of linguistics and literary Slavonic studies. The article also deals with the issue of the academic philological journals, their current state and the challenges they may face in the future emphasizing that the further development of information exchange in the field of digitized periodicals will focus on the provision of a wider range of services for the end user. The modern opportunities and further development of the Internet are a prerequisite for reassessment of the ideas of communication in the academic community, for the dissemination of scientific knowledge and for the place of specialized journals in the context of this academic communication. In this context of virtual scientific communication the presence of academic periodicals in the digital libraries will be of great importance. In the future academic communication, in particular in the field of philology, significant specialization of electronic archives with a focus on a particular scientific field is expected. The text also outlines some problems in contemporary academic exchange, especially peer reviewing, predatory journals, online communication, etc.

Episciences (https://www.episciences.org/) is a hosting platform of open access journals created in 2013 and developed by the Center for Direct Scientific Communication (CCSD), a joint unit of French public research organisms (CNRS, INRIA, INRA and Lyon University).The Episciences project is organized with a steering committee and epi-committees, whose role is to promote the creation of editorial committees. It is built as an overlay (epi-) publishing service upon an open repository, currently arXiv and HAL.  The platform is free of charge and offers a comprehensive set of tools for managing the journal, from organizing peer reviewing to disseminating its contents. Episciences allows research communities to experiment with innovative ways to publish and disseminate contents: authors first submit their preprints in an open archive and then submit them to the overlay journal of their choice.Episciences now hosts 11 journals in Mathematics, Informatics, Social and Human sciences. There are new journals originally created in Episciences and existing journals that have migrated on it.In April 2018 – five years after the launch of Episciences – the CCSD conducted a survey of the editorial teams regarding their uses of Episciences and their expectations. The survey was a Google Form sent to the chief editors of the 11 active journals. The objective was to collect at least one answer for each journal, representative of the positions of the editorial team. All the 11 teams have answered. The survey was intended to test their satisfaction, to better know how they use the main software features, and to test their opinion about emerging practices such as open peer review.The poster will present the main results of this survey. The main weakness of Episciences is the workflow imposing a two-stage submission process (in the repository and after in the journal). The strengths are the great assets of the economic model and the editorial support teams.

The article deals with the issues based on the study of non-categorical statements in a linguistic text in modern English. The essence of scientific communication is a message, or the transmission by means of language of some mental content, including the expression of an intellectual-evaluative attitude to the subject of speech. The content of intellectual assessments is conditioned by knowledge and experience of intellectual and material activities of people.In a scientific text, this attitude can be the result of verifying the truth of what is expressed by the author himself or by another scientist or a team of researchers, as well as confirmation or refutation of apreviously formed assessment that served as the basis for further discussion

The scientific communication habits and practices of the new wave of Spanish researchers are analyzed based on the results of an international survey (2019). The results obtained from 100 participants support those previously obtained from interviews conducted between 2016 and 2018 in Spain under the Harbingers Project, and show similarities to and differences from those collected from the mentioned survey in other countries covered by the Project in its second phase. Spanish researchers have two contradictory faces: They are innovative in their perceptions but slightly less so in their practices regarding open access and the use of social media. However, these new attitudes and habits are motivated by a desire to promote their own work and gain recognition; In this sense, they are conservative. The competition in which they are immersed regarding the achievement of tenure and, therefore, the need to focus on their abilities that will be evaluated represent a limitation on enjoying the learning process and dedicating themselves to the practices of open science to which their generation is naturally prone. Resumen Se analizan los hábitos y prácticas de comunicación científica de la nueva ola de investigadores españoles a partir de los resultados de una encuesta de ámbito internacional (2019). Los resultados de un centenar de contribuciones confirman los obtenidos previamente en entrevistas realizadas entre 2016 y 2018 en España en el marco del Proyecto Harbingers, y ponen de manifiesto similitudes y diferencias con los resultados obtenidos de la encuesta mencionada en otros países cubiertos por el Proyecto en su segunda fase. Los investigadores españoles presentan dos caras contradictorias: Son innovadores en sus percepciones aunque no tanto en sus prácticas relativas al acceso abierto y al uso de las redes sociales. Sin embargo, sus actitudes y hábitos nuevos no son desinteresados, están motivados por promocionar el trabajo propio y conseguir el reconocimiento. En este sentido, se muestran conservadores. La competición en que se encuentran inmersos para conseguir un trabajo estable y, por tanto, la necesidad de focalizarse en los méritos que les van a ser evaluados les limita para poder disfrutar del proceso de aprendizaje y dedicarse a las prácticas de ciencia abierta a las que su generación se muestra proclive de forma natural.
