It presents a research work proposal, in development in the Masters Program in Information Science at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), which aims to intervene in the process of informational exclusion experienced by Santa Clara Community in the João Pessoa city, Paraíba state. This intervention will occur through field research for registration, organization and dissemination of “information sources”, constituted by people from the community. For that it will be produced a website where it will deposited, to free access in the internet, the “knowledge treasure” of people who form the social memory and knowledge of Santa Clara Community, that will be available for the next generations, which may facilitate the production of new knowledge by other social actors.

Digital technologies and the Internet have revolutionized the way people gather information and acquire new knowledge. With a click of a button or a touch on the screen, any person who is wired to the internet can access a wealth of information, ranging from books, poems, articles, graphics, animations and so much more. It is imperative that educational systems and classroom practices must change to serve our 21st century students better. This study examines the use of Edmodo as a social media to teach a course in Pedagogy to a class of digital natives. The media is used as an out-of-class communication forum to post/submit assignments and resources, discuss relevant issues, exchange information, and handle housekeeping purposes. A survey of students' responses and discussions on their participatory process leads to insights on how the social media helps achieve the required competences.

The development of IT technology has provided people with free access to the Internet, which is now a place for consumers to look for opportunities to share their observations with others. The Internet user wants to be more aware, and willingly participates in the development of emerging brands. Companies have also found their place on the Internet, where they source information from Internet users. They realize the power of the consumer as a source of marketing information, and "take advantage" of consumer behavior to promote their brands. They analyze information about consumers, especially consumer preferences, and then publish this via social media in ways that might appeal to users and lead them to share it with others. This study describes this relationship between consumers and marketing via the Internet, and how the consumer is a source of marketing information, because of the possibilities created for entrepreneurs in the information society.

The possibility that millions of users have a free access to a website to send and receive multimedia messages has contributed to the democratization of the Internet since 1995 in the south of Europe. We present how those websites in the second decade of the new millennium tend to a radial and vertical structure of online services. A heuristic and diachronical analysis of the main design categories of Yahoo Spain has been carried out in a human-computer interaction lab whose results are presented in the current research work. The informative aspects of the dynamic and/or static media have also been analyzed, especially in the content and also in the presentation of the online information, on the PC and tablet screens.

This chapter introduces the social contract as a basis for personal and corporate responsibility and obligation. I briefly discuss three perspectives on the nature of the social contract: the Hobbesean, the Lockean, and the Rousseauean. I discuss the idea that information technology and the information society are in the process of revising the social contract. It sees the Internet as a key transformer of the sense of the social contract. It ends with a discussion of three revisionary frames: virtual communitarianism, radical individualism, and social capitalism.

The purpose of the present study was to examine areas of interest and information seeking patterns of Israeli 12th graders who engaged in research work for their final research paper, an optional partial requirement for obtaining an official matriculation diploma. A detailed questionnaire, based on former studies was disseminated in high schools all over the country, yielding 200 usable questionnaires. Main findings: topping the list of chosen topics were the humanities (44%), followed by the sciences (33%), and the social sciences (24%). Considerable differences were found between girls and boys. Girls preferred topics from the social sciences (mainly sociology) and from the humanities (except history) while boys preferred scientific topics. Most respondents had a computer at home (93%) which was usually connected to the Internet (78%) and they had taken some computer course in the past (70%) although a considerable proportion, more girls than boys, did not make use of them. Gender was found to be significantly associated with the chosen field. Taking a computer course and use of home Internet were found to be associated with searching the Internet in the process of information seeking while working on the final paper. A home computer connected to the Internet was associated with the use of formal and informal information sources. The school library was the most-visited one followed by academic, public and home libraries. However, a considerable proportion of the respondents reported no or few visits only. Most respondents reported receiving only little or no advice and guidance regarding the library and database searching. When guidance was provided, it usually consisted of a single-session on a personal basis. Guidance given by a teacher was frequently face to face, with the student more likely to use an OPAC, while when given by a university teacher it was usually in front of a computer, followed by lesser use of OPACs. In summation, although most students were aware of powerful new IT tools, their use is not as prevalent as may be assumed, mainly due to poor or inadequate guidance.

The author of this article analyses the relations between infrastructure and the exercise of control over inmates by the personnel of correctional institutions. He aims to show how physical aspects of the space are used by staff members to strengthen their own position. He uses a description of such facilities as a departure point for analyzing the activities of the social actors. The article is empirical in nature and rests on several years of qualitative field research in correctional institutions and facilities for juvenile delinquents in Poland. The analysis is based on material acquired through overt direct observation in correctional institutions and in voluntary interviews with staff and inmates, as well as visual material, internal documents, and letters.

The present article consists of analyzing memory levels from the perspective of Assmann (2008). From a systematic review on the subject, is instituted a vision on the dimension of internal (neuronal), social and cultural memory in the human, material and immaterial relations between groups. A theoretical-analytic dialogue with History, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Psychology, Information Science and other areas of the Social Sciences is undertaken, which are presented not in a watertight manner, but which participate in the analysis of this polysemic object, formed not in the abstraction of the norm, but intertwined with the worlds of people and social dynamics. Next, the level of the cultural dimension of memory is related to the categories of the information society in its triple immersion: as an economic transition, political project and social norms, to discuss the technical dimension of memory whose modern tendency is characterized by the use / use and hyper-industrialization of 'mnemonic technology' for the performance and development of individuals, organizations and societies.
