This study aimed to develop STEM-based chemistry textbooks on reaction rate topic, in order to improve students' problem solving skills. Textbooks are developed using the Research & Development (R&D) scheme with feasibility indicators seen from the validity and effectiveness of textbooks. The developed textbook was then tested using a one group pretest-postest design research, where the research subjects were 30 students of class XI at SMA Wachid Hasyim 1 Surabaya. The research data were obtained from expert validation sheets and student problem solving skills test sheets. Based on the research conducted, it was found that 1) the textbook developed had a validity score of 3.70 and was categorized as very valid, 2) the increase in student problem solving skills classically obtained was 0.75, in the high category, 3) the percentage of completeness a test of student problem solving skills by 90%, so that STEM-based textbooks can be state to be effective in improving students' problem solving skills. Based on these results, it can be conclude that STEM-based textbooks developed feasible to improve students' problem solving skills.

The Problem solving skills are skills that must be possessed by students to solve a problem correctly and correctly in the learning process. Students with high achievement do not necessarily have high problem solving skills either. This study aims to describe students' problem-solving skills in simple aircraft material based on class rankings. This research method uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research location was conducted at SMP Avisena Jabon, Kedungcangkring Sidoarjo. The data collection techniques used were tests, interviews, and documentation that had been tested for validity. The results showed that the problem solving skills possessed by students ranked 1 on all indicators were included in the very high category, problem solving skills possessed by students ranked 2 on all indicators were included in the high category, and problem solving skills possessed by students ranked 3 on all indicators included in the high category.

Problem-solving is one of the century skills 21 and are included in the 2013 curriculum. Students with low problem-solving abilities will have difficulty completing math problems that require high-level thinking. Learning media that does not contain problem-solving skills will hinder the achievement of student competence. This research has two objectives. The first objective is to analyze the needs of learning media that are in accordance with student characteristics, curriculum, learning models and teacher readiness. The second objective is to design discovery learning based learning media to improve students' problem-solving abilities. This research uses design research method with type of development studies. The research subjects consisted of teachers and students. Data collection instruments used interview guidelines, observation guidelines, and questionnaires. Interview guides to get information from teachers and students regarding the readiness of teachers in applying the 2013 curriculum and learning difficulties in mathematics. Observation guidelines are used to obtain information about student learning characteristics. The questionnaire is used to get the needs of mathematics learning media. The data analyzed using qualitative descriptive. Research provides several results. First, most students consider learning less attractive. Second, the 2013 curriculum cannot be fully implemented in the classroom. Third, discovery learning models can improve problem-solving skills. Fourth, the design of discovery learning based learning media. This study concludes that discovery learning based media to improve problem-solving skills need to be developed. Keywords: Media Development, Guide Discovery Model, Troubleshooting.

Teaching materials are developed based on the characteristics of students, so that the specified competencies can be achieved. In general, students' problem solving abilities are still very low, students have not been able to understand the problem, so it is constrained in determining the mathematical problem solving model. This study aims to describe the validity, effectiveness, and response of students to Problem Based Learning-based teaching materials that are problem-solving skills developed. This research is a development research using ADDIE models namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects in this study were 23 students of Meureubo High School 1 in class Mia2 as many as 23 students. The research instruments were validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and tests. From the results of the trials, in the first and second trials obtained teaching materials based on Problem Based Learning that were developed effectively in terms of 70% of students taking the test of problem solving skills obtained a minimum score of 75 and achievement of learning completeness 75% problem solving ability tests and positive responses for Problem Based Learning based teaching materials for problem solving abilities developed.

Students' ability to solve learning problems is influenced by the factors of learning motivation and self-confidence. Students who are able to solve problems in learning will be able to get satisfying results. Students who are unable to solve problems in learning will experience failure in achieving a goal. This study aims at looking at the contribution of learning motivation and self-confidence to the ability to solve the problem of student learning at SMAN 1 Lintau Buo. This type of research was quantitative with correlational methods. The sample of this research was the students of class X and X1 of SMAN 1 Lintau Buo identified from the AUM PTSDL results having the most problems. The research instrument used a learning motivastions, self confidence and the resolution of students learning problems. The result of the reliability test of the learning problem-solving ability was 0.759. The research data were analyzed by using multiple regressions. The research findings showed that: learning motivation, in general, was in the high category. The students’self-confidence was generally in the high category. The students' problem-solving abilities were generally in the high category. The learning motivation contributed positively and significantly to the learning problem-solving abilities. The self-confidence contributed positively and significantly to students' learning problem-solving abilities, and the learning motivation and self-confidence together contributed positively and significantly to the students' learning problem understanding abilities.
