The goal of the study is to improve and maintain the soil fertility. Fundamentally the term soil fertility covers larger proposition and often encompass environmental issues. There had been many attempts addressing the hurdles encountered in ensuring soil fertility. Analyzing the data about the fertilizers consumption by the farmers, we demonstrate the effectiveness of fuzzy based system in achieving maximum productivity together with high cognizance to soil fertility. The proposed fuzzy systems address the solution of the soil luxuriance hurdles in terms of pesticides poisoning especially farmland. The usage of pesticides poses a serious threat to the health of the environment affecting adversely the future generations. On the other hand, it is important not only to preserve soil fertility but also to plant the crops as well. The proposed work have been constructed based on the usage of fertilizers with diverse cropping pattern randomly selected during a pair of cropping cycle and found that the repetition of the cycle failing miserably as the soil fertility gravely damaged. The suggested procedure will enhance the environmental ecosystem and improving the socio-economic status of farmers. Moreover, this increase in the farm products has a positive impact to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of a country.

Abstract This article examines the multimodal construction of ideal manhood in male participants’ self-introduction videos in a Chinese reality dating show. A framework is developed to model identity as evaluative attributes and to explicate how they are constructed through linguistic and visual resources. Analysis of 91 videos shows two versions of idealized Chinese masculinity, namely, modern masculinity (mainly embodied by participants who have won a date), and traditional masculinity (mainly embodied by participants who have not won a date). Modern masculinity highlights career-oriented qualities, socio-economic status, and luxurious lifestyles, while traditional masculinity highlights family values, skills in Chinese cultural heritage, and class mobility. The findings provide new understandings of the complexity of Chinese masculinity in the dating show context, which reflects the influence of capitalist globalization on the one hand, and the government’s attempt to govern public conduct and morality on the other.

Female refugees face additional challenges and obstacles on their path to entrepreneurship. This can be explained by intersectionality, taking into account compounded discrimination due to gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and also religion. While conservative religious values and norms tend to be portrayed in a negative light, as hindering female leadership and fostering patriarchal views, this chapter assesses the positive impact that religion and spirituality may have for women refugee entrepreneurs. From the perspective of social psychology, it also considers how a comprehensive and creative training for female entrepreneurs should account for the demand-side, supply-side, soft skills, mental health, and religion and spirituality, preceded by a sound analysis of the context.

171 boys and girls in Grade 4 from schools in three different socio-economic areas were tested on a hand-dynamometer task to determine the effects of social norms on level of aspiration. One-half of the subjects received high social-norm feedback (failure), while the other half received low social-norm feedback (success). Analysis of variance of discrepancy scores indicated that rural girls' aspirations were significantly lowered in the success situation and inner city girls' aspirations were significantly raised in the failure situation. Social norms had greater influence on girls' than boys' aspirations for performance. The results suggest that elementary school children's level of aspiration can be altered through social-norm anchoring, but the nature of these changes varies according to the sex and socio-economic status of the child.

GPS sensors are widely used to know a vehicle’s location and to track its route. Although GPS sensor technology is advancing, they present systematic failures depending on the environmental conditions to which they are subjected. To tackle this problem, we propose an intelligent system based on fuzzy logic, which takes the information from the sensors and correct the vehicle’s absolute position according to its latitude and longitude. This correction is performed by two fuzzy systems, one to correct the latitude and the other to correct the longitude, which are trained using the MATLAB ANFIS tool. The positioning correction system is trained and tested with two different datasets. One of them collected with a Pmod GPS sensor and the other a public dataset, which was taken from routes in Brazil. To compare our proposal, an unscented Kalman filter (UKF) was implemented. The main finding is that the proposed fuzzy systems achieve a performance of 69.2% higher than the UKF. Furthermore, fuzzy systems are suitable to implement in an embedded system such as the Raspberry Pi 4. Another finding is that the logical operations facilitate the creation of non-linear functions because of the ‘if else’ structure. Finally, the existence justification of each fuzzy system section is easy to understand.

A socio-economic study of farmers from Siaha district was conducted with the objectives to know the socio-economic status of Siaha district farmers, to study the availability of resources, to locate the specific socio-economic weaknesses in their production organization, and to find the constraints that inhibit the popularisation and adoption of modern technologies.  Siaha district is comprised of numerous hills and valleys and is rich in vegetation and forests. Jhum cultivation is still widely practiced as the traditional farming system. The cropping pattern of the Siaha district is characterized by the predominance of rice as the lead crop. Agricultural crops account for more than 65 percent of the gross cropped area which indicates the prevalence of subsistence agriculture and lack of crop diversification. It was observed that these farmers are socio-economically backward. Agriculture of the primary source of livelihood for the overwhelming majority of the farmer’s population. It is mandatory to identify and quantify the socio-economic factors which are key factors that are inhibiting their growth and development.

This paper explores the discursive use of selected emotive interjections (Ow!, Ouch!; Ugh!, Yuck!; Whoops!, Whoopsadaisy!) in spoken British English. The data (drawn from the Spoken BNC2014) are coded for age, gender, social grade and type of dyad to identify potential factors governing the discursive use of these interjections. Based on 140 relevant tokens, the results suggest that: 1) The individual interjections vary significantly regarding how frequently they are found in discursive uses (p<0.001***). 2) Whoopsadaisy! is not attested in discursive uses. 3) Young female speakers behave differently from the other speaker groups in that they use emotive interjections discursively significantly more frequently (p=0.006***). 4) Female speakers in general use a wider range of interjections discursively: Ow! and Whoops! in discursive uses were absent from male speech. 5) Socio-economic status is irrelevant, as is 6) type of speaker dyad. Thus, the social life of emotive interjections is mainly influenced by speaker gender, and if the speakers are female, also by their age.

ABSTRACTThe study investigated housing tenure as a factor moderating the effects of loneliness and socio-economic status (SES) on quality of life (control and autonomy, pleasure, and self-realisation) over a two-year period for older adults. Data from the 2010 and 2012 waves of the New Zealand Health, Work, and Retirement Study were analysed. Using case-control matching, for each tenant (N = 332) we selected a home-owner (N = 332) of the same age, gender, ethnicity, SES, working status and urban/rural residence. Structural equation modelling was employed to examine the impact of SES, housing tenure and loneliness on quality of life over time. Emotional loneliness exerted a significant negative main effect on control and autonomy and pleasure. Tenure and SES influenced control and autonomy, but not pleasure or self-realisation. Tenure moderated the effect of emotional loneliness on control and autonomy, with the negative effect of emotional loneliness weaker for home-owners compared to renters. Tenure moderated the effect of SES on control and autonomy, with the positive impact of SES stronger for home-owners. Findings suggest that owners capitalise on their material and financial resources more than tenants in terms of their quality of life. In addition, home-ownership can act as a protective factor against the harmful effects of emotional loneliness in old age.

How is socio-economic status linked to political support? The analysis of a Romanian national probability sample suggests that there are two distinct and opposite routes. On the one hand, status is positively associated to political support, via well-being and, on the other hand, it is negatively associated to political support, probably via expectations and values. Whereas the negative route implies that upper status Romanians are more critical of current politics without questioning democratic principles, the positive route reveals that Romanians’ discontent erodes not only trust in political actors but also more diffuse levels of political support, and leads to positive attitudes toward communism.

Popularity of private tutoring stems from a belief in its positive impact on academic achievement, even though research does not provide any clear evidence of its effectiveness. The effects of out-of-school tuition may be conditioned by various environmental factors, which is why it is important to monitor the phenomenon and its consequences for local education systems. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence, determinants and effects of private tutoring among seventh-graders of public elementary schools in Ostrołęka. The study involved 400 pupils (84% of the population) and 371 of their parents (78% of the population), using school achievement tests and a questionnaire for parents. The results showed that paid private tuition is not an effective strategy of supporting students in school difficulties. Pupils who were provided with private tutoring in fact had average lower scores in end-of-year maths tests, compared to students with similar end-of-term grades and socio-economic status who had to do without this form of support. The results should encourage a more attentive monitoring of the quality and effects of private tutoring and also of the role played by this form of support in the achievement of students who experience varying degrees of school difficulties. The study has showed that perhaps other methods of providing support to such students should be sought, including those more closely linked to the formal education system.
