Summary Discursive power is the reflection of a country’s national strength and international influence. The increase of economic power does not necessarily mean the increase of discursive power. The improvement of discursive power has to be strategically designed and multidimensionally improved. Due to China’s historical experiences regarding discursive power, China is weak in many fields. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China began to pay more attention to improve its international discursive power such as expanding its discursive presence and strengthening effectiveness of its voice, changing language style, enhancing institutional power and innovating diplomatic practice. In the future, more substantive efforts will be needed such as strengthening the overall strategic layout, enhancing institutional discursive power in various fields, improving the discursive system and promoting integration of China’s major diplomatic ideas and discourse with global ones.

Since the rise of rural tourism in China in the 1980s, the natural conditions have mainly been relied on to develop such tourism projects as flower appreciation, fruit picking, fishing, and farm foods focusing on agricultural sightseeing and experiencing the rural life, which has long ignored the cultural attributes of rural tourism, resulting in the serious homogenization of rural tourism. The author believes that exploring traditional farming culture and improving local cultural self-confidence are the effective ways to solve the problem of rural tourism homogenization, to achieve the general requirements of agricultural and rural development in the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on ‘industrial prosperity, ecological livability, rural civilization and affluent life’, and to promote rural revitalization.

Since the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, cultural and creative industry has become more and more important in national economic development. Cultural and creative industry plays an important role in promoting economic development, prosperity and rejuvenation in both countries and regions. Beijing is in the key stage of the construction of the national cultural center, and the foreign trade of cultural and creative industry is an important aspect of the construction of the national cultural center. Based on the analysis of the current situation of Beijing’s cultural and creative industry, this paper points out three urgent problems in the foreign trade of Beijing’s cultural and creative industry from the micro and macro aspects. They are small scale, single form, and the pattern has not yet formed. Finally, the paper puts forward suggestions on the foreign trade of Beijing’s cultural and creative industry: expand the international market, promote foreign investment of cultural enterprises, and form a new pattern of factor market and product market of cultural and creative industry.

The purpose of this paper is to serve as a point of departure for discussion of the relationship of regional differentiation and growth to general economic development. In addition to touching on methodological problems, I hope to establish two specific points: (a) that the needs of economic history call for particular perspectives in delimiting regions, and (b) that study of regional interaction can provide insights in an understanding of national economic development.
