This study aims at improving students’ achievement in reading comprehension applying The Concept Attainment Model by conducting classroom action research. The subjects of this research the first semester students Majoring in Economics from Yayasan Universitas Labuhan Batu Rantauprapat. The number of the students was 20 students. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, quantitative and qualitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was objective test of reading comprehension, while the instruments for qualitative data were gathered through observation sheet, diary notes and check list. Based on the data analysis, the mean of the students score in pre-test 51, in cycle I was 61.75, and in cycle II was 80.50. The conclusion is that The Students Concept Attainment Model can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension.

The study aims at improving students’ achievement in reading comprehension applying Metacognition Method by conducting classroom action research. The population of this research twelfth grade students of SMP Negeri 41 Medan. The number of the students was 33 students. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, qualitative and quantitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was objective test of reading comprehension, while the instruments for qualitative data were gathered through interview, diary notes, and observation sheet. The qualitative showed that the students were interested in Metacognition Method. Based on the data analysis, the mean of the students score for orientation test was 52, 12 and for test in cycle I was 63, 63 and for test in cycle II was 76, 51. The conclusion is that Metacognition Method can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. Keywords : Reading, Comprehension, Metacognition Method

This study concerns on improving students’ achievement in writing procedure texts through word webbing technique. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The population was the 2012-2013 nine grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Batang Kuis. The number of students was 36, consisting of 21 females and 15 males. The procedure of the research was administrated into two cycles where each cycle consisted of three meetings. Each meeting included four steps namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, qualitative and quantitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was the writing of procedure texts test while the qualitative data were gathered by using interview, diary notes and observation sheet. Based on the data analysis, the mean of students’ score in Test I was 53,47, for the Test II was 63,05, and for the Test III was 75 The qualitative data showed that the students were interested in the applying of Word webbing Technique. The conclusion is that Word Webbing Technique in writing Procedure Texts improves the students’ achievement in writing procedure texts. This research aimed at finding out whether Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy improves students’ reading comprehension or not. The research was a classroom action research. The data collected through quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students’ and teachers’ activity. The instruments used by the researcher were test and observation sheet. The finding of the research showed that the strategy Listen-Read-Discuss improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-tests was 64.46 (50%), there were eight students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 75.35 (67%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 82.14 (89%), twenty-five students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

This study attempted to improve the students’ reading comprehensionachievement in descriptive text through Team Games Tournament (TGT) method.This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of theresearch was class IX SMP PAB 10 Medan Estate which consisted of 25 students.The research was conducted in two cycles and the first cycle consisted of fourmeetings the second cycle consisted of two meetings. The instruments forcollecting the data were quantitative data (reading evaluation) and qualitative data(diary note, observation sheet and interview sheet). Based on reading scores,students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the test I the mean was65,33, in the test II the mean was 71,72 and the test III the mean was 84,54.Basedon diary note, observation sheet and interview sheet, it was found that teachinglearningprocess ran well. Students were active, enthusiastic, and interested inreading. The result of the research showed that Team Games Tournament (TGT)method significantly improved students’ achievement in reading comprehensionespecially in reading descriptive text.

This study focuses on improving students’ achievement in writing News Item text through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the grade X students of SMA Mitra Inalum. Twenty four students were taken as the sample. The research was conducted in two cycles. First cycle was conducted in four meetings. The second cycle was conducted in two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (writing test) and qualitative data (observation sheet, diary note, and questionnaire sheet). Based on the data analysis, students’ score kept improving in every test. The mean of the students’ score in the first competence test was 38.4, in the second competence test was 75.4 and in the third competence test was 81.9. The result showed that Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition (CIRC) technique improved students’ achievement in writing news item text.

This study deals with improving students’ reading comprehension through Two Stay – Two Stray Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIIIC MTs. Lab. IKIP Al- Wasliyah Medan which consisted of 34 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and every cycle consisted of four meetings and two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (multiple choice test) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and interview). In test I, the mean score was 63.28. in test II, the mean score was 67.96. and in test III the mean score was 72.96. It can be concluded that Two Stay – Two Stray Strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension.

This research aims to: (1) describe and explain the process of speaking ability by picture series media of the students in B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo in academic year 2017-2018, (2) describe and explain the result of speaking ability by picture series media of the students in B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo in academic year 2017-2018. The picture series media chosen because it can to train of language skill and expression skill the child (speaking and telling story). The type of this research was classroom action research with Kemmis and Mc Taggart model. The subject of this research was the students of B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo consisting of 20 students. The data technique were collected by using observation, documentation and interview. Data analysis of this research used the qualitative data and quantitative data. The success indicator in this action research it said success when percentage of speaking ability of the students were 80%. Based on the result of the research show the speaking ability by the picture series able to improve the speaking ability of the students in B1 group at Bustanul Athfal Aisyiyah Keniten Ponorogo in academic year 2017-2018. It showed by the mean percentage of speaking ability by the picture series in pra cycle that have a good criteria that is 15%. In the first cycles percentage of speaking ability by the picture series that have a good criteria that is 30%. In the second cycle percentage of speaking ability by the picture series that have a good criteria increase to 85%. It shows the classroom action research it says success, because the percentage of speaking ability by the picture series of the students get success indicator that is 80%.

The result shows that the strategy be able to improve the students’ reading comprehension in report text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-test was 69.5 (35%), there were seven students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 72.2 (60%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 78.25 (85%),  seventeen students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

This study attemps to imorove the students’ achivement in reading comprehension through inquiry technique. The study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subjects of the research were the 45 students of Grade XI SMA Negeri 1 Bahorok. It was conducted in two Cycles and consisted of six meetings.The instruments for colecting data used Reading Comprehension tests for quantitative data and Diary Notes, Interview Sheet, and Observation Sheet for qualitative data. Based on the Reading Comprehension score, students score in pre test, kept improving in every test. Based on Diary Notes, Observation sheet and Interview Sheet, it was found that the students were actualy involved in reading process. The results of the reasearch showed that Inquiry Technique can improve the students’ achivement in Reading Comprehension. In orientation test the mean of the students’ score was 53, the mean of the students’ score in Cycle I was 62.07, and the mean of the students’ score in Cycle II was 71.6. Based on the Observation Sheet, Diary Notes, and Interview Sheet, it was found that the teaching-learning process run well. The conclusion is that Inquiry Technique improved the students’ reading Coprehension and it is suggested to the English teacher to apply Inquiry Technique in Reading Comprehension. This study attempts to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMPN 1 Pematangsiantar. The number of the students was 32 students, consisted of 5 males and twenty seven females. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 57.84, for the second test as a post test I was 73.56, for the third test as a post test II was 77.56. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Think Pair Share, Writing, Recount text, Action research
