The study aims at improving students’ achievement in reading comprehension applying Metacognition Method by conducting classroom action research. The population of this research twelfth grade students of SMP Negeri 41 Medan. The number of the students was 33 students. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, qualitative and quantitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was objective test of reading comprehension, while the instruments for qualitative data were gathered through interview, diary notes, and observation sheet. The qualitative showed that the students were interested in Metacognition Method. Based on the data analysis, the mean of the students score for orientation test was 52, 12 and for test in cycle I was 63, 63 and for test in cycle II was 76, 51. The conclusion is that Metacognition Method can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. Keywords : Reading, Comprehension, Metacognition Method

This study aims at improving students’ achievement in reading comprehension applying The Concept Attainment Model by conducting classroom action research. The subjects of this research the first semester students Majoring in Economics from Yayasan Universitas Labuhan Batu Rantauprapat. The number of the students was 20 students. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, quantitative and qualitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was objective test of reading comprehension, while the instruments for qualitative data were gathered through observation sheet, diary notes and check list. Based on the data analysis, the mean of the students score in pre-test 51, in cycle I was 61.75, and in cycle II was 80.50. The conclusion is that The Students Concept Attainment Model can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension.

This study concerns on improving students’ achievement in writing procedure texts through word webbing technique. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The population was the 2012-2013 nine grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Batang Kuis. The number of students was 36, consisting of 21 females and 15 males. The procedure of the research was administrated into two cycles where each cycle consisted of three meetings. Each meeting included four steps namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, qualitative and quantitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was the writing of procedure texts test while the qualitative data were gathered by using interview, diary notes and observation sheet. Based on the data analysis, the mean of students’ score in Test I was 53,47, for the Test II was 63,05, and for the Test III was 75 The qualitative data showed that the students were interested in the applying of Word webbing Technique. The conclusion is that Word Webbing Technique in writing Procedure Texts improves the students’ achievement in writing procedure texts. This research concerned on Improving the Students’ Achievement in Writing Descriptive Texts through Prepare, Organize, Write, Edit, Rewrite (POWER) Strategy. In this research, the writer conducted classroom action research. Subject of this research were the second year students of SMK Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura Class XI AK consisted of 35 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was organized in four steps, namely Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. Cycle II was the improvement of Cycle I. There are two kinds of data collected during the research, qualitative and quantitative data. The instruments for the quantitative data was writing test while the qualitative data was gathered through Observation Sheet, Interview Sheet and Diary Notes. Findings showed that students’ score improved from Orientation Test to Test II. Based on the data analysis, Students’ mean in Orientation Test was 38.37, in Test I was 66.49, and Test II was 83.11. The conclusion is that the Prepare, Organize, Write, Edit, Rewrite (POWER) Strategy can improve the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.

This study attemps to imorove the students’ achivement in reading comprehension through inquiry technique. The study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subjects of the research were the 45 students of Grade XI SMA Negeri 1 Bahorok. It was conducted in two Cycles and consisted of six meetings.The instruments for colecting data used Reading Comprehension tests for quantitative data and Diary Notes, Interview Sheet, and Observation Sheet for qualitative data. Based on the Reading Comprehension score, students score in pre test, kept improving in every test. Based on Diary Notes, Observation sheet and Interview Sheet, it was found that the students were actualy involved in reading process. The results of the reasearch showed that Inquiry Technique can improve the students’ achivement in Reading Comprehension. In orientation test the mean of the students’ score was 53, the mean of the students’ score in Cycle I was 62.07, and the mean of the students’ score in Cycle II was 71.6. Based on the Observation Sheet, Diary Notes, and Interview Sheet, it was found that the teaching-learning process run well. The conclusion is that Inquiry Technique improved the students’ reading Coprehension and it is suggested to the English teacher to apply Inquiry Technique in Reading Comprehension. This research aimed at finding out whether Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy improves students’ reading comprehension or not. The research was a classroom action research. The data collected through quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students’ and teachers’ activity. The instruments used by the researcher were test and observation sheet. The finding of the research showed that the strategy Listen-Read-Discuss improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-tests was 64.46 (50%), there were eight students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 75.35 (67%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 82.14 (89%), twenty-five students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

This study deals with the improvement of the students’ achievement in writing explanation text through Numbered Heads Together (NHT) Method. This study try to find out to what extent using NHT could improve students in writing explanation text. Subject of the study this research, first grade students of SMA NEGERI 1 PEGAGAN HILIR, TIGABARU. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, qualitative and quantitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was writing test while the qualitative data were diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet. The qualitative data showed that the students were interested in the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) Method. Based on the data analysis, the mean of the students score for the first test 52.26, for the second test 69.68, for the third test 79.24 and the last test 82.12. The conclusion is that the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) method can improve the students in writing Explanation text.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the basic math skill students 5-6 years old can be improved through music and movement. This research was conducted at TKIT Ibnu Sina Duren Sawit, East Jakarta Timur, with as many as 27 students study subjects. The study was conducted in two cycles and accompanied by 2 teachers who act as observers, method action research. Data collected through observation and interviews as well as qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed by comparing the students’ grades in cycle 1 and cycle 2 while the qualitative data was analized by data reduction, display data, and conclusion. The results showed an increase in students’ basic math skill through music and movement. In cycle 2 the development of the mathematical aspects of general intelligence has increased 23% from the initial conditions before the study, in wich each indicator increased by 52% compared to the time of observation. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that the students’ basic math skill can be improved through music and movement. It is thus suggested to kindergarten teachers to use music and movement in order to improve the learning basic math skill of students. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui apakah kemampuan dasar matematika siswa usia 5-6 tahun dapat ditingkatkan melalui kegiatan music and movement . Penelitian ini dilakukan di TKIT Ibnu Sina Duren Sawit, Jakarta Timur, dengan sebanyak 27 siswa subjek penelitian. Penelitian dilakukan dalam dua siklus dan didampingi oleh 2 orang guru yang bertindak sebagai pengamat, metode penelitian tindakan. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara serta analisis data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data kuantitatif dianalisis dengan membandingkan nilai siswa dalam siklus 1 dan siklus 2 sedangkan data kualitatif dianalisis dengan reduksi data, data tampilan, dan kesimpulan. Hasilanya menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan matematika dasar siswa melalui kegiatan music and movement . Pada siklus 2 perkembangan aspek matematika dasar telah meningkat 23% dari kondisi awal sebelum penelitian, yang mana setiap indikator meningkat sebesar 52% dibandingkan dengan waktu pengamatan. Berdasarkan analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan matematika dasar siswa dapat ditingkatkan melalui kegiatan music and movement. dengan demikian disarankan kepada guru TK untuk menggunakan music and movement dalam rangka meningkatkan kemampuan matematika dasar siswa.

Abstract This study concerrns with Improving the Students Writing Narrative Text by Applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique.The objective was to investigate improvement of students’ writing narrative text by applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the study was grade VIII students of MTS Al- Hasanah Medan totalling to 29 students. They were taught writing by cooperative integrated reading and composition technique. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data and qualitative data (observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, and interview sheet). Based on the test score of quantitative data, students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the orientation test the mean was 43, 2, in the cycle I test the mean was 55, 6. In the cycle II test the mean was 67.2. The percentage of orientation test was 10, 34%, cycle I test was 24, 13% and cycle II test was 86, 20%. The finding of the research showed that applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique significantly improved students’ writing. The qualitative data show that the students were more interested and motivated on writing through cooperative integrated reading and composition technique. It is suggested that teachers should apply cooperative integrated reading and composition technique as one of methods to improve students’ writing. This study attempted to improve the students’ reading comprehensionachievement in descriptive text through Team Games Tournament (TGT) method.This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of theresearch was class IX SMP PAB 10 Medan Estate which consisted of 25 students.The research was conducted in two cycles and the first cycle consisted of fourmeetings the second cycle consisted of two meetings. The instruments forcollecting the data were quantitative data (reading evaluation) and qualitative data(diary note, observation sheet and interview sheet). Based on reading scores,students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the test I the mean was65,33, in the test II the mean was 71,72 and the test III the mean was 84,54.Basedon diary note, observation sheet and interview sheet, it was found that teachinglearningprocess ran well. Students were active, enthusiastic, and interested inreading. The result of the research showed that Team Games Tournament (TGT)method significantly improved students’ achievement in reading comprehensionespecially in reading descriptive text.

This study focuses on improving students’ achievement in writing News Item text through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the grade X students of SMA Mitra Inalum. Twenty four students were taken as the sample. The research was conducted in two cycles. First cycle was conducted in four meetings. The second cycle was conducted in two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (writing test) and qualitative data (observation sheet, diary note, and questionnaire sheet). Based on the data analysis, students’ score kept improving in every test. The mean of the students’ score in the first competence test was 38.4, in the second competence test was 75.4 and in the third competence test was 81.9. The result showed that Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition (CIRC) technique improved students’ achievement in writing news item text.
