<p><em>The purpose of this study is to identify factors (brand elements) that mediate between Millennials and brand loyalty, and to test a theoretical model that includes these mediating factors in describing the relationship between millennials and brand loyalty. The study focused on the key factors that we identified and hypothesized to mediate the relationship between millennials and brand loyalty. The quantitative study surveyed two hundred and fifty-three (n=253) respondents randomly drawn. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to test a model of the relationship between the mediating factors, millennials and brand loyalty. All model fit parameters were well within acceptable bounds. The Comparative Fit Index (CFI) was 0.999, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) was 0.018, and Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) was 0.022. However, we believe that the model is over-fitting the data, and this is not surprising given that there are 22 variables and 253 data points. These results show promise, but require further investigation in a second phase of the inquiry. This study limited itself to surveying millennials, brand loyalty, and the seven mediating factors we identified and hypothesized to play a role in mediating between them. Based on this study, brand management strategies are proposed.</em><em></em></p>

Abstract We studied the effect of serum folate-binding protein (FBP) on folate radioassays and the relationship of the serum level of unsaturated FBP to the serum folate level in various clinical states. Our modification of a heat-extracted radioassay was compared to a whole serum radioassay. Our results confirmed the existence of elevated serum levels of unsaturated FBP in some normal subjects, in some women taking oral contraceptives, and in most patients with uremia. Elevated levels of unsaturated FBP will produce falsely low results in folate radioassay unless the FBP has been destroyed by heat, as was done in the modified radioassay here presented. In normal and uremic subjects, serum folate and unsaturated FBP levels tended to correlate, whereas in patients taking large doses of folic acid the level of unsaturated FBP fell as the level of serum folate rose.

Abstract Medication nonadherence is associated with adverse health outcomes in older populations. The aim of this study was to develop a model that describes the relationship between the determinants of nonadherence, per the World Health Organization (WHO) model of nonadherence and the necessity–concerns framework (NCF) and nonadherence in a cohort of older community-dwelling patients. A retrospective cohort study of 855 community-dwelling patients aged ≥70 years from 15 practices. Medication nonadherence was assessed by (i) medication possession ratio (MPR < 80%) and (ii) the median MPR across all drugs dispensed. Patient questionnaires, interviews, and medical records measured the determinants of nonadherence per the WHO and NCF frameworks. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was undertaken to generate the model of best fit. Two structural equation models (SEM) were developed to evaluate the relationship between the WHO factors, the NCF, and nonadherence (Model 1: MPR < 80%, Model 2: median MPR). The CFA produced a reasonable fit (χ2(113) = 203, p < .001; root mean square error of approximation = 0.03; comparative fit index = 0.98, and weighted root mean square residual = 0.97) and adequate internal consistency (r = .26–.40). SEM analysis (Model 1) showed a significant direct relationship between patient-related (β = 0.45, p < .01), socioeconomic (β = 0.20, p < .01), and therapy-related factors (β = −0.27, p < .01) and nonadherence (MPR < 80%). Similar results were found for Model 2 (median MPR). There was a significant direct relationship between medication concerns (β = −0.13, p < .01) and nonadherence. Therapy-related (β = −0.04, p < .05) and patient-related factors (β = −0.06, p < .05) also had a significant mediating effect on nonadherence through medication concerns. Health care professionals need to address medication concerns and management of adverse effects in older populations to improve adherence and clinical outcomes.

1. We describe in this paper a new ouabain-insensitive pathway for Na+ and K+ in human erythrocytes. K+ efflux was measured in cells loaded by the p-chloromercuribenzene-sulphonate (PCMBS) procedure to contain approximately equal amounts of Na+ and K+. K+ efflux was stimulated by external Na+ in the presence of ouabain and frusemide. Na+-stimulated K+ efflux was 0.35 ± 0.12 (mmol h−1 l−1 of cells) in eight normal subjects and 0.64 ± 0.13 in 13 patients with essential hypertension. 2. The Na+-stimulated K+ efflux was not observed in cells loaded in the presence of EGTA. This inhibition by EGTA suggests that K+ efflux is dependent on intracellular calcium. The Ki+-Nao+ countertransport of hypertensive patients was also inhibited by EGTA. The elevated K+—Na+ countertransport of hypertensive patients could be due to a higher intracellular Ca2+ content (Cai2+) or to an increased affinity for Cai2+. The relationship of this pathway to the Gardos effect is not clear since Na+-stimulated K+ efflux occurs without metabolic depletion or inhibition of the Ca2+ pump. As a tentative hypothesis, we relate the Ca2+-dependent downhill movement of K+ and Na+ to the Ca2+-dependent channels described in muscle and nerve, but other hypotheses cannot be excluded at this stage of our research.

Abstract The effect of grain angle (GA) on shear strength of Douglas-fir has been evaluated. Shear block specimens with a GA varying from 0 to 90° was loaded in the shear plane, resulting in failure mode transitioning from parallel to grain shear to rolling shear. As expected, shear strength decreased as the GA increased from 0° to 90°. A root-mean-square equation was found to be suitable to predict the relationship between GA and shear strength. Traditional Hankinson formula and the Tsai-Wu criteria were less effective with this regard.

Spectral analysis of ankle tremor records obtained from normal seated subjects during continuous elevation of the heel for 10-45 min revealed that the root-mean-square (rms) displacement amplitude of the tremor increased from minimum values of about 4 micronm to values as large as 4,000 micronm. Associated with this increase in the displacement amplitude was a systematic decrease in the tremor frequency from values of 7-8 Hz to values of 5-6 Hz. Spectral analysis of demodulated soleus EMG records indicated that the rms value of this EMG (calculated at the tremor frequency) and the rms displacement of the tremor are related by a power function, with the rms value of the EMG increasing over a range of about 4-40 micronV as the tremor displacement increased from about 4 to 4,000 micronm. The negative relation between frequency and rms displacement amplitude values for postural ankle tremor was similar to that found previously for postural hand tremor.

Although frequency-domain analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) has been performed in the setting of exercise and recovery from exercise, the relationship of specific frequency components to sympathetic and parasympathetic inputs has not been validated in this setting. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship of frequency components of HRV to sympathetic and parasympathetic modulation in the setting of recovery after exercise using selective autonomic blockade. Normal subjects ( n = 27, 17 men, 53 ± 7 yr old) underwent bicycle stress testing on four separate days. On day 1, a baseline study without autonomic blockade was performed. On days 2 through 4, either β-adrenergic, parasympathetic, or double blockade was administered during exercise and completed 3 min before recovery. Continuous ECG was recorded for 5 min starting from the end of exercise. Time- and frequency-domain measures of HRV were computed for each of the five 1-min segments of RR intervals. Parasympathetic blockade significantly decreased all the HRV measures compared with baseline ( P < 0.02 for all). Root mean square of successive differences of RR intervals (rMSSD) was increased by β-adrenergic blockade ( P < 0.0002). All the HRV measures except rMSSD showed increases with time after the first minute of recovery. The low frequency-to-high frequency ratio did not respond to autonomic blockade or to recovery time, consistent with the expected changes in sympathovagal influence. Root mean square (detrended SD) and rMSSD were highly correlated with the square root of the total power ( r = 0.96) and high-frequency power ( r = 0.95), respectively. Although there are marked reductions in the frequency-domain measures in recovery versus rest, the fluctuations in the low- and high-frequency bands respond to autonomic blockade in the expected fashion. Time-domain measures of HRV were highly correlated with frequency-domain measures and therefore provide a computationally more efficient assessment of autonomic influences during recovery from exercise that is less susceptible to anomalies of frequency-domain analysis.

l-[18F]6-Fluoro-DOPA (l-[18F]6-fluoro-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine; FDOPA) has been used with quantitative positron emission tomography (PET) to assess presynaptic nigrostriatal dopaminergic function in life. The relationship of estimated kinetic rate constants for striatal FDOPA uptake [ Ki(FDOPA)] to the normal aging process has been the subject of conflicting reports. Resolution of this issue has been hampered by methodological differences in previous FDOPA/PET investigations. We studied 19 healthy normal subjects (aged 27–77 years) and measured striatal Ki-(FDOPA) according to each of the earlier methods. While significant correlations (p < 0.005) existed between Ki(FDOPA) values estimated by the various techniques, none correlated with normal aging. We conclude that normal striatal Ki(FDOPA) values estimated using quantitative FDOPA/PET are uncorrelated with the aging process.
