Smoking does not only endangers the smokers themselves but will also harm the people around them. These are the non-smokers also called the passive smokers or second-hand smoke. In particular pregnant women who are the second-hand smoke can lead low birth weight (LBW) babies. This study aims to determine the impact of second- hand smoke in pregnancy toward LBW in the district of Aceh Besar in 2016. A case control study was done in district of Aceh Besar, Aceh province, Indonesia. The total sample was 120 neonates (1:1), 60 neonates were LBW (cases) and 60 neonates were normal weight (controls). Data collection was doneusing a questionnaire filled in by the parents. The univariate analysiswas described with percentages and the Wald-Wolfowithz run test was used for the bivariate analysis. The results showed that the majority of mothers had a good knowledge about the dangers of smoking, ie 91 or 75.8%. Most of the mothers had positive attitudes for male smokers. The smoking men are considered normal and acceptable, consisting of 73 mothers or 60.8%. All the mothers in this study were non-smokers (100.0%). The majority of the fathers were smokers, 88 or 73.3%, and most of them smoked around their pregnant wife, 55 fathers or 62.5%. The results of the bivariate analysis indicated there was a significant impact of the second-hand smoke toward the LBW (P value <0.05). It means, mothers as a second-hand smoke during pregnancy have a risk to born the LBW baby

Background:/Aims: The use of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) in pregnancy has shown remarkable improvement in immune status and have revolutionized the approach of care to people living with HIV (PLHIV). Some adverse pregnancy conditions have been reported which may depend on type of regimen, time and duration of use. The use of ARVs in pregnancy have been dynamic and transition from one regimen to the other have setting and country based variations. Therefore, knowing the impact of ARVs in pregnancy among PLHIV in our settings deserve evidence based information. Methods: Pregnant women attending antenatal clinic at the hospital were prospectively recruited and followed up. HIV positive mothers were recruited irrespective of gestation age. At the time of delivery, obstetric and neonatal characteristics were entered into computer database. Mothers and their children were followed until 6 weeks postpartum. The data was analyzed with Epi-info version 7.1.5. Chi square at significant level of 0.05 and confidence level of 95% was used to determine significance. Results: A total of 55 HIV positive mothers were in the study. The age range was between 18 to 45 years and parity was 0 to 8. The mean birth weight and gestation age at delivery was 2.92kg (SD 0.556) and 36 weeks (SD 2.8 weeks) respectively. The absolute CD4 count of 500cells/mm3 and above (43.3%) was associated with no low birth weight. The mean glycaemic results were within normal range, 4.02-4.75 and 5.00-6.79 Mmol/l pre and post prandial respectively. Conclusion: Low birth weight was not associated with HAART in pregnancy and good immune condition was not associated with low birth weight. There was no association of protease inhibitors and gestational diabetes mellitus.

THE EFFECT OF INFANT MASSAGE STIMULATION TOWARDS THE WEIGHT GAIN ON INFANTS WITH LOW BIRTH WEIGHT IN YOGYAKARTADwi Nur Octaviani Katili1, Djaswadi Dasuki2, Retno Mawarti3Universitas Muhammadiyah GorontaloEmail: [email protected]: Infants with low birth weight (LBW) require more nutrients inputs in order to optimize their growth and development. The increase of infants weight is used as the best indicator to determine the growth of infants with LBW. The massage on infant with LBW is a form of stimulus/kinesthetic tactile stimulation as a verbal communication to the infants. It can increase endurance, the activity of the digestive function, and the activity of the vagus nerve. Objective: To determine the benefits of infant massage stimulation as an effective non-medical way in gaining body weight on infants with low birth weight (LBW).Methods: The design of the study is Randomized Controlled Trial. The sampling technique is concecutive sample with the total samples are 15 respondents for each group (treatment and control). The data were analyzed with bivariate analysis stage by using independent t-test with a significance level of p value <0.05 as well as multivariate analysisby using linear regression. Results: The t-test results showed that there is average difference in the gaining of body weight on infants with the low birth weight in the treatment and the control group as big as 53.67 grams with a p value <0.001, 95% CI = -79.02 - (- 28.38).Conclusions: The weight gain on infants with low birth weight who do massage stimulation for 14 days is greater than infants who are not massaged.

Thyroid disorders are the most common endocrine disorders affecting women of reproductive age group Hypothyroidism is common in pregnancy with an estimated prevalence of 2-3% Maternal hypothyroidism leads to many maternal and perinatal complications like miscarriage, gestational diabetes mellitus, pre-eclampsia, pre-term labor, placental abruption, and fetal death. AIMS AND OBJECTIVE: To nd out the effect of hypothyroidism on the course of pregnancy, to study the neonatal outcome, to know the prevalence of subclinical and overt hypothyroidism in pregnant women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study was conducted in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Nalanda medical college and hospital, Patna. All pregnant women attending the obstetric unit during this period were included in the study after informed consent 10 ml of blood sample of pregnant women was drawn at the rst visit in the rst trimester; then it was centrifuged and stored at -70 degree Celsius until assays, which were done after delivery, TFT was assessed by quantitative analysis of serum TSH and FT4 (ELISA). The pregnancy outcome variables like miscarriages, preterm deliveries, IUGR, preeclampsia, anemia, low birth weight, intrauterine fetal demise, antepartum hemorrhage, stillbirth, postpartum hemorrhage, birth asphyxia were studied. The neonatal outcome was also studied. The statistical analysis was done using the odds ratio. P-value <0.05 was considered signicant. RESULTS: Out of the 250 pregnant women 25 had hypothyroidism (9.5%). The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism was more as compared to the overtone (Table 2). Abortions were seen in 12.5% of subclinical and 11.1% of overt hypothyroid women. PIH and abruptions were signicantly higher in subclinical cases (P<0.05) while in the overt group both complications were higher as compared to the normal women but the p-value was not signicant for abruption. More of the hypothyroid women had preterm delivery (37.5% in subclinical and 44.4% in the overt group), Regarding neonatal complications, IUD and Early neonatal deaths were signicantly higher in overt hypothyroidism (P<0.01) Hypothyroid women had more low birth weight babies (31.25% in subclinical and 35.5% in overt) and IUGR babies (18.70% in subclinical and 22.21% in overt), CONCLUSION: The present study shows that, though the occurrence of hypothyroidism in pregnancy is less yet it causes many maternal and neonatal complications therefore universal screening of thyroid disorder should be done in pregnancy.

Background: Maternal stress which may include emotional, social, health and economy may have impact on newborn. Risks factors predisposing to maternal stress are preventable by taking appropriate measures at right time and hence may have a better outcome of newborn. Maternal risk factors such as stress and depression have been associated with preterm birth and low birth weight. Relatively few studies have been made on impact prenatal maternal stress on neonatal outcome till date. The aim of our study is to asses the impact of maternal stress on fetal outcome. Methods: This study is an observational clinical study, undertaken in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences hospital, Bangalore, Karnataka, between April 2017 to September 2017. Perceived stress scale(PSS) was used to assess the stress levels of mothers. Results: The association of moderate stress with low birth weight and preterm gestational age was statistically significant (p value <0.001). The amount of stress in relation to maternal age was highest in 20 to30 years (81.5%) of age group. Primigravida were found to have a statistically significant association with maternal stress (p value-0.022). Higher stress levels were observed in lower middle socioeconomic status which was statistically significant (p value-0.050).Conclusions: More than 50% of the pregnant women in our setting were exposed to stress. In stressed pregnant mothers, low birth weight and preterm deliveries were the outcome. Lower socioeconomic status was associated significantly with stress. All pregnant mothers should be counselled to consume nutritious diet to deliver a normal healthy baby.

According to the result of Riskesdas 2010, one of the causes of neonatal mortality inIndonesia was a blood disorder / jaundice / hyperbilirubinemia (6.6%). Hyperbilirubinemia oneof the causes of infant mortality, one of which caused low birth weight. The incidence of hyperbilirubinemiain hospitals dr.M.Yunus Bengkulu in 2013 was 8.9%. The purpose of this studywas to determine the relationship of LBW with hyperbilirubinemia in space perinatalogi dr. M.Yunus Bengkulu 2013. This study used a case-control design. The population in this study all infantsborn in dr. M. Yunus Bengkulu in 2013, amounting to 1,580 babies. Samples were taken fora total of 35 cases in total sampling in the ratio 1: 2 to take control using systematic random samplingtechnique. The study used secondary data from the register book perinatal room. Data analysisusing univariate and bivariate analysis using chi-square analysis. The results showed almosthalf (34.3%) experienced LBW infants and almost half (33.3%) experienced hyperbilirubinemia.Infants with hyperbilirubinemia most (57.1%) had low birth weight. Results of Chi-Square statisticaltest showed a p-value = 0.001 < α of 0.05, meaning that there is a relationship between theincidence of LBW with hyperbilirubinemia. Obtained value OR = 4.5, which means the incidenceof hyperbilirubinemia have a 4.5 times greater risk in LBW infants than non-LBW. It isrecommended for health care workers, especially in the baby room can improve health care inproviding midwifery care to newborns who had low birth weight and increased infant with hyperbilirubinemiahandling.

Abstract Title : Correlation between BMI and pregnancy Outcome among postnatal mothers with pregnancy Induced hypertension in selected hospital Bangalore. Objectives: To identify and correlate BMI and pregnancy Outcome among postnatal mothers with pregnancy Induced hypertension. Method: A non experimental correlation design was utilized among 80 postnatal mothers who were diagnosed as Pregnancy induced hypertension during their antenatal period selected as samples by using purposive sampling technique. Demographic data were collected by interview method, their BMI was calculated, pregnancy outcomes were identified from records by using an outcome checklist. Results : Underweight mothers had low birth weight babies and received NICU care. Among normal weight mothers 17.5 % delivered by LSCS, 15% babies were low birth weight babies 12.5 were preterm babies among them 10% received NICU care. In the overweight group 18.75% undergone LSCS, 18.75% were LBW and 1.25% VLBW, 8.75% babies were preterm, 12.5% newborn received NICU care. Among Obese mothers 8.75% delivered by LSCS, 6.25% of LBW babies, 5% were preterm and all of them received NICU care. There is a positive correlation between BMI and diagnosis and type of delivery. Significant at .01 and .05 Level (p value .008 and .019 respectively). Negative correlation between birth weight and diagnosis and gestational age. r = -.499 significant at .01 level (p value .000) Conclusion: Obesity and under weight is a leading, preventable cause of mortality worldwide. Preeclampsia increases maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality rates. All women who are in reproductive age group and under risk to develop pregnancy induced hypertension need to be educated about to maintenance of normal weight before pregnancy. Nurses have more responsibility on creating awareness among women how to maintain normal weight to avoid development of complications to the mother and newborn.

Background: Hemoglobin is a widely used parameter to define the prevalence of anemia. Anemia in pregnant women will increase the risk of getting Infant Low Birth Weight (LBW), the risk of bleeding before and during delivery will even cause the death of the mother and baby if the mother is suffering from severe anemia. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends pregnant women ideal Hemoglobin levels were more than 11 g / dl. High and low levels of hemoglobin of pregnant women during pregnancy has an effect on birth weight because it can lead to impaired fetal growth in the womb. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship of the levels of Hemoglobin third trimester pregnant women with fetal weight in PHC Trauma Center Samarinda. Methods: This study is a descriptive correlationalapproach to time series. The study population was selurus third trimester pregnant women were recorded and checkups in Health Center Trauma Center corresponding inclusion criteria starting from the month of May to July 2017. The sample in this study with amethod total sampling with a total sample of 39 people. Instrument research using observation sheet. The collected data were analyzed by using univariate analysis (median and frequency distribution) and bivariate analysis techniques withtest. chi squareResults: It was found that there was a significant correlation between hemoglobin level third trimester pregnant women with fetal weight in PHC Trauma Center with P-value = 0.000.Conclusion: respondent characteristics in Puskeamas Trauma Center study that most of the respondents were in the age group 20-35 years as many as 33 people (84.6%) are mostly high school-educated respondents as many as 19 people (48.7%), most respondents were housewives as many as 26 people (66.7%), most respondents second pregnancy or more (multigravida) as many as 23 people (59.0%), most of the respondents had higher levels of hemoglobin to normal as many as 24 people (61.5%) and the majority of respondents have a baby of normal weight 21 persons (53.8%). There is a relationship Hemoglobin levels of third trimester pregnant women with fetal weight in PHC Trauma Center samarinda with P-value = 0,000 in obtaining the value of OR = 70,000.
