The experiment with the chronic effects of alcohol on experimental animals reflects the picture of long-term use of alcoholic beverages by a person with alcoholism. It is impossible to fully study the ultrastructural changes in internal organs, including the reproductive system, in humans, both in acute and chronic alcohol consumption, but the results obtained in the experiment can be extrapolated to humans. The results obtained showed that changes in the parenchymal-stromal elements of the testicles during chronic alcoholization are reduced to dystrophic transformation of the spermatogenic epithelium. The testicular stroma is characterized by pronounced circulatory disorders with plethora and stasis in the postcapillaries and small veins, edema, phenomena of perivascular and interstitial sclerosis, with foci of pronounced hyalinosis, most expressed by 2-3 months of alcoholism. By 6 months of the model experiment, there was no dynamics of the growth of morphological changes, partial adaptation to constant intoxication with ethyl alcohol.

Experimental data on the course of the wound process and changes in the internal organs of animals during acute radiation sickness are presented. Morphological changes in the wound and with a fracture of the femur, on the model of combined radiation-mechanical conduction in 30 experimental animals (rats). It was found that wounds after primary surgical treatment often suppurate, and the performed osteosynthesis in fractures of tubular bones turns out to be an untenable delivery of metal structures. An unfavorable course of the wound process is noted in the form of pronounced purulent-necrotic changes in soft tissues, which leads to the appearance of degenerative-dystrophic changes in internal organs in experimental animals. The development of the infectious process in the wound, radiation damage is more severe, while the lethality increases by 2023%. The total area and thickness of the newly formed granulation tissue is 1,52 times less than in non-irradiated animals. As a consequence of the disturbance of reparative processes during the development of the mutual burdening syndrome, the consolidation of the fracture with radiation injury to rats was completed in 28,51,2 days, while in non-irradiated animals it was already by 2023 days. The reason for the death of animals is purulent-septic complications in 21 (73%) irradiated rats. Sepsis due to St. aureus was noted in 14 (66,6%) rats and St. epidermalis in 2 (9,5%) animals. Colibacillary sepsis was recorded in 5 (23,8%) rats. Thus, in the conditions of the use of weapons of mass destruction, radiation-mechanical damage will occupy one of the leading places in the structure of sanitary losses. At the same time, the simultaneous effect of radiation and a mechanical factor on the body forms one of the most dangerous variants of damage, in which a favorable outcome is predicted only in milder forms of acute radiation syndrome and provided that surgical treatment is timely.

ABSTRACT Histomorphological and immunocytochemical methods were used to study the effect of either physiological and pathological endogenous production or long-term exogenous application of high doses of sex (steroid) hormones on the prolactin cells in the anterior pituitary of experimental animals and man. Using these methods it was shown that enhanced endogenous secretion of sex hormones, mainly of oestrogens, seems to produce nearly the same morphological changes in the anterior pituitary of the rat, dog and man. It was also possible to show that long term exogenous application of high doses of oestrogens or oestrogens and progestagens can stimulate prolactin cells in some experimental animals. The demonstration of similar mechanisms in man calls for more extensive investigations on the possible role of the sex hormones on prolactin secretion.

The development of intra-abdominal hypertension is possible with a wide range of surgical pathologies, in particular, the abdominal cavity, as well as in other nosologies and significantly aggravates the prognosis. Thus, polytrauma and major burns present up to 60% of the risk of abdominal compartment syndrome (AKS), and intestinal obstruction, peritonitis and acute destructive pancreatitis - in almost 80% of cases. The purpose of the work was to investigate the morphological changes that occur in the internal organs in an intraabdominal hypertension syndrome caused by peritonitis. The experiment was conducted on 28 guinea pigs, divided into three groups: I — the control group (n=8), the II group, in which the peritonitis was simulated by destruction of the colon in the experimental animals (n=10), III — the group of experimental animals, in which the peritonitis model was combined with a paranephrine blockade in combination with a blockage of the circular ligament of the liver (n=10). In all experimental animals, intraabdominal pressure was measured every 6 hours during the day. The results were processed using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet formulas using the Student t criterion. For morphological study section material was used (fragments of the kidneys, small intestine and peritoneum). To facilitate cutting the pieces, we carried out preliminary fixation of organs in 10% neutral formalin (at least 24 hours). From each organ, cut into 1–2 bits or ribbons, which were fixed in 10% neutral formalin solution. After posting according to the generally accepted method, bits were poured into paraffin. Paraffin sections 5–7 microns thick were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. As a result of experimental work, it has been found that combined regional blockades effectively reduce intra-abdominal pressure within six hours after use, but their effect is short-lived. In the experimental peritonitis group, with the implementation of regional blockades with lidocaine solution, the morphological changes of the kidneys and peritoneum were less pronounced. Improvement of the technique of regional blockades, in particular the continued infusion of local anesthetics, can significantly increase the effectiveness of the technique without side effects that are inherent in, in particular, peridural analgesia.

An investigation has been performed as to the effect of a long-term parenteral introduction of the sum of water-soluble polysaccharides (WSPS) calamus root (Acorus calamus L.) extracted by means of the in-house technology on the functions of experimental animals. As it follows from the results of the experiments, the intragastric introduction of the WSPS to rats in the doses of 20, 100, and 200 mg/kg during a three-month term and the intravenous introduction to rabbits in the doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg during a one-month term do not lead to the death of the animals or to any pathological changes in their general condition, the dynamics of the general weight, or the functional activity of the investigated internal organs and systems.

Background. One of the significant factors in the progression of fibrotic changes in the liver is hepatocyte steatosis, that persists in drug addicted patients even after the elimination of the hepatitis C virus and cessation of drug use. Analysis of the pathomorphogenesis of hepatic steatosis in opioid dependence (OZ) will make it possible to assess the factors that affect ultrastructural changes in hepatocytes and the processes of lipid granule (LH) degradation. Objective. Assessment of ultrastructural changes in LH in the liver tissue of patients with OZ. Material and methods. Histological preparations of liver tissue from 20 patients with OZ aged 21 to 40 years (18 men and 2 women) with different duration of OZ and opioid tolerance. Results. There was established the following dependence of ultrastructural changes in the liver in patients with different duration of OZ and opioid tolerance. The most pronounced changes were noted in the group of patients with prolonged (more than 6 years) opioid intoxication and high tolerance to opioids in the liver tissue, in whom, along with severe steatosis, there were more significant violations of the mechanisms of LH degradation, destruction of cristae in mitochondria, a decrease in the number of lipophagosomes and PH with signs of superficial degradation than in the group of patients with OZ duration up to 6 years, as well as with moderate and high opioid tolerance. Conclusions. Ultrastructural changes in hepatocytes in the form of progression of steatosis in the centrilobular and periportal zones, a decrease in the activity of LH degradation, gross morphological changes in mitochondria, a decrease in the activity of surface LH degradation depend on the activity and duration of opioid dependence and are more pronounced with long-term (more than 6 years) highly progressive opioid dependence.

Introduction. The impact on the body of such factors of the production environment as coal-rock dust and fluorine compounds leads to certain shift s in strict indicators of homeostasis at the system level. Maintaining the relative constancy of the internal environment of the body is provided by the functional consistency of all organs and systems, the leading of which is the liver. Organ repair plays a crucial role in restoring the structure of genetic material and maintaining normal cell viability. When this mechanism is damaged, the compensatory capabilities of the organ are disrupted, homeostasis is disrupted at the cellular and organizational levels, and the development of the main pathological processes is noted.The aim of the study is to compare the morphological mechanisms of maintaining structural homeostasis of the liver in the dynamics of the impact on the body of coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride.Materials and methods. Experimental studies were conducted on adult white male laboratory rats. Features of morphological mechanisms for maintaining structural homeostasis of the liver in the dynamics of exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride were studied on experimental models of pneumoconiosis and fluoride intoxication. For histological examination in experimental animals, liver sampling was performed after 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 weeks of the experiment.Results. The specificity of morphological changes in the liver depending on the harmful production factor was revealed. It is shown that chronic exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride is characterized by the development of similar morphological changes in the liver and its vessels from the predominance of the initial compensatory-adaptive to pronounced violations of the stromal and parenchymal components. Long-term inhalation of coal-rock dust at 1–3 weeks of seeding triggers adaptive mechanisms in the liver in the form of increased functional activity of cells, formation of double-core hepatocytes, activation of immunocompetent cells and endotheliocytes, ensuring the preservation of the parenchyma and the general morphostructure of the organ until the 12th week of the experiment. Exposure to sodium fluoride leads to early disruption of liver compensatory mechanisms and the development of dystrophic changes in the parenchyma with the formation of necrosis foci as early as the 6th week of the experiment.Conclusions. The study of mechanisms for compensating the liver structure in conditions of long-term exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride, as well as processes that indicate their failure, and the timing of their occurrence, is of theoretical and practical importance for developing recommendations for the timely prevention and correction of pathological conditions developing in employees of the aluminum and coal industry.The authors declare no conflict of interests.

Talk to any allergy sufferer and they will tell you how awful it can be. Runny noses, itchy eyes, coughing and difficulties breathing. For many these symptoms rise only to the level of annoyance and can be avoided by steering clear of the source of their allergy. What many people don't realise though is that allergies can become a far more serious issue for a large segment of the population. Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing due to allergies bring many people to emergency rooms and these are just the acute symptoms. Along with the potential for an allergic attack during a windy or dusty day, researchers and medical professionals are beginning to recognise that there are chronic, long term effects associated with allergies. In order to mitigate both the acute and chronic effects of allergies a better understanding of how genetic factors combine with environmental conditions to produce the ranges of symptoms and effects of allergy suffers is needed. Professor Tomomi Higashi, from the Department of Hygiene at Kanazawa University in Japan, is an expert in this field and is currently working to improve treatment and prevention of allergic disease.

Background: Diagnostic criteria for electrocution related death are still a challenge in forensic pathology and it seems that the electrical mark is the only reliable evidence. Methods: A comparison of histological and morphological findings of skin and internal organs from an autopsy series of electrocution deaths with those mostly reported in literature as representative for electrocution. Results: The morphological changes of heart, brain and other main internal organs are still unspecific. Organ’s damage observed in electrocution deaths shows a wide variability, not reliable for a certain diagnosis of electrocution. The electrical mark is still the golden standard for diagnosis of electrocution. Conclusions: In electrocution related deaths, pathological findings of the main internal organs are not enough evidence to support with certainty a post-mortem diagnosis that a victim suffered an electrical damage. Although the organ histological changes are undoubtedly the starting point for a better understanding of the fatal even, the diagnosis of death from electrical damage is still a dark and unsolved chapter. The electrical mark still represents a fundamental indicator above all in the medical-legal field, but the identification of pathognomonic elements and signs not limited to the skin alone could be a valid help in the future, especially in unclear cases.
