Azo ligand 11-(4-methoxyphenyl azo)-6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-benzo[4,5] imidazo[1,2-c] quinazoline-9-carboixylic acid was derived from 4-methoxyaniline and 6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline-9-carboxylic acid. The presence of azo dye was identified by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (FT-IR and UV-Vis). The compounds formed have been identified by using atomic absorption in flame, FT.IR, UV-Vis spectrometry magnetic susceptibility and conductivity. In order to evaluate the antibacterial efficiency of ligand and its complexes used in this study three species of bacteria were also examined. Ligand and its complexes showed good bacterial efficiencies. From the obtained data, an octahedral geometry was proposed for all prepared complexes.

Acetophenone sulfamethoxazole and 3-Nitrobenzophenone sulfamethoxazole were prepared from the reaction of sulfamethoxazole with two ketones. The prepared ligands were identified by (C.H.N) analysis and UV-VIS, FT-IR spectroscopic techniques. Metal complexes of the two ligands were prepared in an aqueous alcohol with Zn (II), Mn (II) and Cu (II) ions with a molar ratio1:1. The proposed general formula for the resulting complexes was [ML.CL2.H2O]H2O .The complexes were characterized by (C.H.N) technique , spectroscopic methods ,conductivity, atomic absorption ,magnetic susceptibility measurements and melting point. According to the results obtained, the suggested geometry is to be octahedral for all the complexes.

A new ligand 2,3-dihydrobenzo [d] thiazole-2-carboxylic acid (L) has been prepared from the reaction of ortho amino phenyl thiol with dichloroacetic acid in mole ratio (1:1). It has been characterized by elemental analysis (C.H.N.), IR, UV- Vis.spectraand 1H, 13C-NMR. A new series complexes of the bivalent ions (Co, Ni, Cu, Pd, Cd, Hg and Pb) and the trivalent (Cr) have been prepared and characterized too. The structural has been established by elemental analysis (C.H.N.), IR, UV-Vis. spectra, molar conductivity, atomic absorption and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The synthesized complexes were prepared in (1:2) ratio correspond to (Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Pb(II) complexes while in case Cr(III) complex is (1:1) ratio (M:L). ?, Kf for (Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II)) were estimated too. The complexes showed characteristics octahedral geometry with the (O,N) ligand coordinated in bidentate mode except with Pd showed square planer. The study of biological activity of ligand (L) and its complexes showed various activities toward Staphylococcus aureusand E. coli.

The preparation and characterization of the Cu (II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) metal complexes of heterocyclic azo ligand 2-[(4`-sulphamide phenyl) azo] -4,5-diphenyl imidazole (4-SuBAI) have been studied by elemental analysis, FT-IR and UV-Vis Spectroscopic, magnetic moment and molar conductance methods. The analytical data showed that all chelate complexes were prepared with (metal-ligand) ratio of (1:2). The general formula of these complexes was [ML2X2]. nH2O [were L=2-[(4`-sulphamide phenyl) azo]-4,5-diphenyl imidazole and X=Cl, and the octahedral geometry were suggested for these complexes .

Many complexes of 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl phenyl methanone with Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV/visible spectra, elemental analysis, room temperature magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity. Cd(II) complex was expected to have tetrahedral structure while all the other complexes were expected to have an octahedral structure.

In this work, two types of azobenzene derivatives based on Disperse Yellow 7 (DY7, 4-[4-(phenylazo)phenylazo]-o-cresol) were synthesized, which are bis-azobenzenes bearing flexible functional 6-bromohexyl chain or carboxylic acid moiety. The first one was synthesized by alkylation of DY7 with an excess of 1,6-dibromohexane in the presence of a mild base (K2CO3). The second one (azo dye with carboxylic acid functionality) was obtained by the alkaline hydrolysis of the ester bond of the newly obtained DY7 derivative with the ethoxycarbonyl group. The synthesized compounds were characterized by different spectral analytical techniques such as 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, and UV-Vis. They can be employed for the synthesis of a wide variety of azo-based materials, which may be suitable for photochromic systems and molecular electronics applications.

Abstract Chromium(VI) oxide reacts with excess of carboxylic acid anhydrides [(RCO)2O where R = CH3, C2H5, n-C3H7 and CHCl2] to give pure chromium(III) carboxylates. Their IR and 1H NMR spectra suggest the presence of two different types of carboxylate groups. Magnetic susceptibility and absorption spectra favour an octahedral geometry around Cr.

AbstractIn this work, a new macrocyclic copper complex, [Cu(ACE)(SCN)2]; ACE: 1,3,6,10,12,15-hexaazatricyclo[13.3.1.16,10]eicosane, was prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis of [Cu(ACE)(SCN)2] reveals an elongated octahedral geometry around the copper atom in a centrosymmetric CuN6 environment.

Abstract Novel (E)-4-((5-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)amino)-N-(pyridin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide 1, (E)-4-((5-bromo-2-(3,4-dicyanophenoxy)-3-methoxybenzylidene)amino)-N-(pyridin-2-yl)benzene sulfonamide 2 and 2(3),9(10),16(17),23(24)-tetra-[(E)-4-((5-bromo-3-methoxy-2-(λ1-oxidanyl)benzyl idene)amino)-N-(pyridine-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide]phthalocyaninato zinc(II) phthalocyanine 3 were synthesized. Their (1-3) structures were illuminated with spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, 1H NMR,13C NMR, UV–vis, MALDI-TOF mass spectra and also elemental analysis. The spectroscopic, photophysical and photochemical properties of the zinc(II) phthalocyanine 3 were investigated in dimethyl sulfoxide and its effects on the above mentioned properties were reported as a result of containing new type benzenesulfonamide derivatives as substituents. In addition, its above-mentioned properties were reported by comparing different species with those of their substituted and/or unsubstituted counterparts. The zinc(II) phthalocyanine 3 has photosensitizing abilities suitable and sufficient especially for photocatalytic applications.

A new Schiff base ligand, N-hydroxy-N-salicylidene-urea was synthesized through the condensation of salicylaldehyde with hydroxyurea. The copper(II) complex of the Schiff base has been also obtained. Their structure has been proven using spectral methods such as UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and elemental analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the copper(II) complex was evaluated through comparison to the activity of the Schiff base on various bacterial strains. All tested compounds were very active against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
