A two dimensional numerical longwave model using an appropriate open sea boundary condition has been developed. The use of the open-sea boundary condition makes it possible to simulate longwave propagation using a smaller region without covering the entire ocean. The numerical model is used to predict the arrival time of tsunamis resulting from the 1964 Alaskan earthquake at various stations with reasonable success.

The flow characteristics of deposited water displaced by flowing oil in hilly terrain tube were studied experimentally and numerically. Lab-scale experiments were carried out on the transparent organic glass test loop with I.D. 50 mm to investigate the distributions of oil-water interface by diesel flowing from a lower horizontal test section into the up-inclined test section. Two-dimensional numerical simulation was conducted by VOF model and CSF model based on the test geometrical model. Comparisons of the oil-water interface distribution and the critical superficial oil velocity show that the numerical simulations favorably compare with the measurements.

Due to T-tube tee is used mostly to connect ducts of the central air conditioning system, different angles of branch pipes caused different local resistance changes. This paper studied two-dimensional turbulent numerical simulation about inter flow of two kinds T-tube by numerical calculation software (CFD),in the method of implicit separation and standard k- ε two equations model, it is clear known that two kinds of forms tee fitting Angle of the internal flow field, Through the contrastive analysis of flow characteristics, it is obvious that local resistance of the oblique angled T-tube tee is much smaller than the common T-tube tee, and also is much more homogeneous.

In this paper, by using lightning detection material of Beijing area, we analyzing the characteristics of lightning in four hailstorms. The results show that the mean percentage of cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning accounting for the total lightning is 8.28%, which is lower than the normal thunderstorms. On the contrary, the CG lightning has a higher proportion of positive CG than the normal thunderstorms. All cases variation trend of lightning frequency show a conspicuous intensive increase before the hail reaches the ground. The peak lightning frequency usually occurs 5 to 80min earlier than hailstone falling. These characteristics may have contribution to the forecasting of hailstorms of Beijing area. Another work was done by using a two-dimensional numerical model which includes dynamic, microphysics, electrification and discharge to simulate these four instances. The results present similar characteristics with the actual detection data. This will lay a foundation for the continuing studies of the relationship between hailstorm and lightning and the inherent reason of the relationship by using the method of numerical simulation.

The dynamic ice forces on a moored icebreaking tanker induced by drifting level ice were simulated with a two dimensional numerical model. Based on a heading controller which aimed to keep the hull head towards the drifting ice, ice resistance on ship was mainly estimated when taking the relative motion between the hull and ice into account. The mooring force and responses of the moored vessel were also looked into through parameter sensitivity studies with different ice thicknesses and ice drift speeds.

The big wave suddenly arrived at the beach, Niigata prefecture Japan in May 2014. And three children were carried off to the sea by the wave, though they played on the beach. When the accident occurred, the significant wave heights was 1.2m, and the wave period was 7.9 seconds. The beach characteristic topography has the cusp topography and steep slope. We tried to understand the reason why this accident occurred. Firstly, we reproduced the wave condition when the accident occurred. Secondary, we made the survey to understand the geographic feature of the beach. After the survey, we obtained the geographic data for the numerical simulation from the aerial photograph which were taken by UAV (Unmanned aerial vehicle). Finally, we comprehended the wave dynamics on the beach by the numerical simulation. We simulated the wave dynamics by the horizontal two dimensional numerical model and the vertical two dimensional numerical model.

This work is purposed to study the flow characteristics of rotor pumps including cavitation. First, a simplified two-dimensional numerical model is developed and computing strategies of the numerical analysis for cavitation are set up, including the selection of cavitation model and its parameters. Second, the reliability and accuracy of the two-dimensional numerical model are verified by experimental results. Then, several factors affecting the cavitation are discussed, including the rotational speeds, pressure differences, clearance sizes, and inlet pressures. For different rotational speeds and pressure differences, the mass flow rates with cavitation are a little larger than that without cavitation, but the amplitudes of the mass flow rates with cavitation are much larger than that without cavitation. Meanwhile, the volume fraction of the water vapor increases with the increasing speeds and the decreasing pressure differences. However, compared with the influence of rotational speeds, the influence of the pressure differences on the vapor contents is relatively smaller. Regarding the clearance size, the smaller the clearance size is, the stronger the cavitation will be. Furthermore, the clearance size between two rotors has a larger effect on the cavitation than that between rotor and pump case. For inlet pressure, it has a little effect on the mass flow rates when cavitation is not considered, but it presents a remarkable effect for the model with cavitation. In addition, the peaks of the volume fractions of vapor and the mass flow rates generally offset backward with the decreasing inlet pressures.
