ABSTRACTHis paper aims to show the state of the art relevant to a study that considers the development of a teaching experiment (Plomp, 2010) (design, planning and analysis of a teaching unit) to promote the teaching and learning of future engineers newly admitted to the Catholic University of Valparaiso, Chile. This experiment is based on the redesign of the textbook under the eaves of the teaching of mathematics . Under the qualitative paradigm, we addressed the state of the art from two angles: the teaching experience and the texts used today. On teaching experience, we analyze, from a survey, the way this textbook has been used and its implication in teaching at the University. For second edge, we considered the study of texts mostly employees in three prestigious universities in our country, observing their mathematical components and / or the teaching of mathematics. The results show a variety of ways in which the text is used, from a simple suggestion for the college student, until explicit support, class to class. On the other hand, use of texts that have a strong disciplinary component (mathematics), to the detriment of the teaching is evident. This leaves us in a complex and challenging scenario for teaching experiment: the design of a text that promotes the connection between mathematics and its teaching as a means to strengthen the teaching and learn- ing of mathematics at higher level.RESUMENEste trabajo tiene por objetivo mostrar parte del estado del arte, el rediseño y algunos resultados de implementación -bajo el alero de la didáctica de la matemática- del primer capítulo del texto guía para futuros ingenieros, recién ingresados a la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile. Contacto principal: [email protected]

Context: Rethinking mathematics teaching practices in a university context is an emerging research theme. Objectives: In this article, we aim to discuss the limits and possibilities of using mathematical tasks in the teaching and learning processes of the concepts of Derivative, Integral and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Design: The study is based on a qualitative-interpretative perspective of research, with methodological procedures inspired by a Design-Based Research. Environment and participants: The research was developed with students attending a Functions of a Variable class in a public university in the state of São Paulo. Data collection and analysis: Data were collected through mathematical tasks on Differential and Integral Calculus solved by students. The protocols produced were analysed, pointing out the main aspects identified, which led us to organize categories of analysis and dimensions (i) knowledges mobilized and developed by students in relation to mathematical concepts; (ii) main errors and difficulties presented by students in the development of tasks; (iii) limits and possibilities of the practice of exploratory teaching in the university context. Results: The results reveal aspects that characterize a process of resignifying the mathematical concepts discussed with the students and a deepening of their knowledge about the concepts of the DIC. Conclusions: As future notes, we suggest rethinking university teaching practice, since the study indicated possibilities and potentialities of the use of exploratory tasks in the teaching of Differential and Integral Calculus.

Nowadays, there are many well proved, effective processes to solve planning tasks in the field of material handling used advanced calculations forms and software. Unfortunately, most of them are used for individual tasks, so the applicability of their results is limited. The Institute of Logistics of the University of Miskolc has been working on integrated planning of handling machines for decades, where the individual planning tasks have to be solved together in a complex process. The main aim of this paper to give an overview about the state of the art of the planning of material handling, based on a literature review of the Science Direct publication database. As a result of this research we can determine some new direction for the planning of material handling.

Abstract:: Targeted Radionuclide Therapies (TRTs) based on Auger emitting radionuclides have the potential to deliver extremely selective therapeutic payloads on the cellular level. However, to fully exploit this potential, suitable radionuclides need to be applied in combination with appropriate delivery systems. In this review, we summarize the state-of-the-art in production, purification, chelation and applications of two promising candidates for Targeted Auger Therapy, namely antimony-119 (119Sb) and mercury-197 (197Hg). Both radionuclides have great potential to become efficient tools for TRT. We also highlight our current progress on the production of both radionuclides at TRIUMF and the University of Wisconsin.

AbstractAnswer Set Programming (ASP) is a prominent knowledge representation language with roots in logic programming and non-monotonic reasoning. Biennial ASP competitions are organized in order to furnish challenging benchmark collections and assess the advancement of the state of the art in ASP solving. In this paper, we report on the design and results of the Seventh ASP Competition, jointly organized by the University of Calabria (Italy), the University of Genova (Italy), and the University of Potsdam (Germany), in affiliation with the 14th International Conference on Logic Programming and Non-Monotonic Reasoning (LPNMR 2017).

Distance learning experiments have been launched since 2010 in several Moroccan universities as part of an experimental approach. It, therefore, seems that a strategy must be put in place to give this choice of education its place in training and grant it the means necessary to achieve these objectives. The objective of this chapter has presented an overview, on free and proprietary e-learning platforms, on their functional architectures, as well as the types of e-learning devices that can create from platforms e-learning, and to deduce the state of the art of the e-learning provisions of Moroccan universities and to compare them with the e-learning provisions of European and American universities.

This article describes assessment methods in undergraduate translation courses from English into the students’ native language at the University of Helsinki, Finland. We consider and attempt to develop assessment according to the principle of constructive alignment in the process of both teaching and learning of translators’ professional competences (as defined by Gambier et al. 2009 and Kelly 2005), which are discussed in relation to our course aims and intended outcomes. The primary methods of assessment described and analysed include students’ reflective translation commentaries, teacher feedback and end of course portfolios. We argue, based on both our teaching experience and student comments, that in spite of some obvious challenges, this assessment system is an effective way of measuring the students’ acquisition of translation competences, as well as acting as a scaffold in the process.

An overview is given of a stimulating Meeting held at the University of Nottingham in June 2003 focusing on molecular interactions occurring in membranes or ‘2D’ and those occurring in aqueous solution or ‘3D’. It was held jointly between the Biochemical Society and the British Biophysical Society. The 80 or so delegates who attended benefitted from an exciting exchange of ideas between researchers from a wide spectrum of backgrounds. It is hoped the collection of papers which follow this Introductory paper will provide a useful summary of the state of the art and help stimulate collaboration across the wide range of disciplines represented.
