The necessity of accelerated modernization and digitalization of production and management systems of the Rus-sian fishing industry in the concept of its own digital ecosystem is shown. The fishing industry is considered as a concern - a major actor of the national economy, integrated in terms of food production in Industry 4.0 with the transition to Industry 5.0. The vision and mission of the industry, new business models and management systems of production processes and socio-economic systems are conceptually formulated.

Modern industry developed over several centuries and three industrial revolutions. Today, we experience the fourth era of the industrial revolution, Industry 4.0. The advance of industrialization brought along many problems, including environmental pollution, global warming, and depletion of natural resources. As a result, the concept of sustainability began to gain importance. Sustainability can be achieved through a balance between economic, social, and environmental processes. In order to establish such balance, businesses need new business models or insights. At this point, Industry 4.0 can be regarded as a new business mindset that will help businesses and communities move towards sustainable development. The technologies used by Industry 4.0 bear a strong promise to solve these problems, after all. Even though Industry 4.0 attracts a lot of attention lately, few works are available on its impact on sustainability. This chapter examines the impact of Industry 4.0 on sustainability.


Subject Outlook for industry 4.0. Significance Dubbed variously 'Industry 4.0', 'intelligent manufacturing' or the 'internet of everything', cyber-physical systems that control the flow of materials, products and information are starting to transform industrial production and supply chains. They will eventually disrupt business models and challenge policymakers. Impacts Improved production flexibility and vertical integration with customers should facilitate bespoke manufacturing ('mass customisation'). Entire value chains will vertically integrate, embracing product design, procurement, production, distribution, sales and maintenance. Horizontal integration around smart factories will create new business models based on manufacturing as a service (MaaS). Pay-by-use and subscription-based MaaS could upend traditional models for financing capital expenditure on plant and equipment.

With the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the formation of a new technological basis – “Industry 4.0” - a dynamic multi-vector transformation of the leading institutes of economy and society takes place, social and labor relations in general and employment in particular acquire new format and content. The quintessence of the article is a scientific-applied substantiation of the construct of nontypical employment economy, scientific argumentation and further development of previous researches of authors regarding determinants of gig-economy formation under the influence of economic and social development “digitalization” and emergence of new business models. that radically change all components of the world of work. New facets of the complex world of work and employment have been revealed and the increase of the newest knowledge in this field has been received under systematic research of a chain of changes: introduction of “Industry 4.0” breakthrough technologies → “digitalization” as a dominant vector of technological innovations → formation of new business models → changes in social division of labor and the content of labor processes → the emergence and intensive development of employment forms immanent to the new (digital) economy. It is substantiated that the main root cause, a kind of “trig- ger” for the emergence and reproduction of the chain of researched changes is digital transformation of the economy and society. The essence of today’s phenomena, which determine the development of the “gig economy”, is revealed. The argumentation of the spread of platform business models and their impact on the world of work and employment is given. A new theoretical construction of a chain of changes, the “output” of which is new forms and, a new platform for social and labor developmen t in general, has been suggested. The research focuses on finding answers to a number of questions posed to every conscious person. Among them are the following ones: Why can’t the modern economy “get along” with traditional (standard) forms of employment? Why does atypicality become not the exception but the norm? How do specific mechanisms and tools for transforming standard forms of employment into new ones, which are immanent to modern conditions of economic and social progress, behave in practice?

In recent years, digital marketing has transformed the way in which companies communicate with their customers around the world. The increase in the use of social networks and how users communicate with companies on the Internet has given rise to new business models based on the bidirectionality of communication between companies and Internet users. Digital marketing, new business models, online advertising campaigns, and other digital strategies have gathered user opinions and comments through this new online channel. In this way, companies have started to see the digital ecosystem as not only their present, but also as their future. From this long-term perspective, companies are concerned about sustainability and the growth of their business models. There are new business models on the Internet that support social causes, new platforms aimed at supporting social and sustainable projects, and digital advertising campaigns promoting sustainability. The overarching aim of this Special Issue was to analyze the development of these new strategies as well as their influence on the sustainability of digital marketing strategies. Therefore, we aimed to analyze how companies adopt these new technologies in a digital environment that is increasingly concerned with the sustainability of business models and actions on the Internet.


Throughout this book, the authors have discussed the implications of the rise of artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, the internet of things, and new business models that do not have any known precedents. While discussing the skills needed to survive in the modern economy, they have yet to address the issue of what will become of our jobs. Will our children dream of the same jobs we dreamed once before? Will they require the same studies we had to follow to reach our actual positions? Will our jobs still exist by the time we reach the pension, or will we need to reinvent everything that we know of? The authors do not have an answer to these questions; what they can do is only make educated guesses about what is about to come and be ready for it. In this last chapter, the authors see what experts think our future will look like and give their educated opinion in what to invest in our lifelong learning journey to be on top of this unprecedented disruption of the economy.

Purpose – We know that the new digital ecosystem brings with it the emergence of new services in telecommunications, which in turn entails opportunities and challenges for both operators and regulators. It is essential to know its current status, in order to understand and try to predict the role played by operators in the value chain of new business models, the types of interaction they will have with other stakeholders, as well as the possible regulatory impacts. Methodology/approach/design – To contribute to this end, in this article we present a review of newly created business models, in which operators are the main actors. Findings – After a detailed analysis of the most relevant cases, we present the regulatory challenges they represent today, as well as their potential implications in terms of economic competition.

Today we are witnessing a paradigm shift when it comes to the industry. There are chances that Industry 4.0 does not only involve major changes in production and business solutions, but also the ability of many enterprises (mainly production companies) to come closer to developed economies. This article highlights the aspect of creating new business models that integrate organizations around Industry 4.0 solutions and create new value for the client and internal client. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the relationship between the implementation of selected Industry 4.0 technologies as well as the knowledge and preparation of employees for changes caused by new solutions, e.g., in the area of the automation and robotization of industry or data and information management. The questionnaire research was conducted among 80 logistics companies in Poland and 80 in Malaysia. Based on the obtained data, a statistical analysis was conducted of the relationships between the above-mentioned variables. The analysis concerned: the employees’ knowledge of the Industry 4.0 paradigm, preparing employees for challenges and the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology. The correlation analysis showed the existence of a statistical relationship between the analysed variables. The analysis of quantitative data showed differences between Poland and Malaysia in terms of employee preparation, their knowledge of Industry 4.0 and activities related to the implementation of specific IR4.0 technologies. The presented analysis relates to one of the analysed areas, therefore it is a contribution to further considerations and comparisons.

Die (Technologie-) Entwicklung im Zukunftsprojekt Industrie 4.0 wird an keinem Unternehmen vorbeigehen. Insbesondere Hersteller von bislang rein mechanischen Komponenten und Bauteilen üben sich jedoch derzeit noch oft in Zurückhaltung. Worin liegt der Nutzen von Industrie 4.0? Wie können Fertigungsbetriebe davon profitieren? Werden sie durch die aktuellen Entwicklungen gezwungen, mit „auf den Zug aufzuspringen“ oder ist es ihnen sogar möglich, sich über neue Geschäftsmodelle vom Wettbewerb abzusetzen?   The development of the technology within the future-oriented project Industry 4.0 will affect every company, a fact well known today. The situation is precarious especially for producers of solely mechanic components and parts – posing the question of their benefit? How can they profit from this development? Are they obliged by current development to jump on the bandwagon or instead does it offer the chance to come up with new business models and differentiate against competitors?
