Recent growth and demands for dealing with increasing complexity in management, evaluation, and accreditation of higher educational institutions have led keynote academic institutions and higher education authorities to adopt and try nonconventional solutions known to business firms to account for massive data management. The development in new practices and merging technology for analytics and information management have offered different solutions such as data warehousing, big data, and business intelligence. Such solutions are gradually being installed in a number of renown universities. Due to the difference between the two firms (higher education and business industry) in nature and aims, tailor-made solutions are needed. This paper shares authors' experience in designing and implementing an educational information system in the College of Computers and Information systems at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. The paper also highlights differences between educational intelligence and business intelligence systems. Higher education implementation aspects ensuring suitable data query service to ease the running of high educational institutions are discussed and recognized.

ASD-BI is an agile “marriage” between business intelligence and data mining. It is one of the first attempts to apply an Adaptive Software Development (ASD) agile method to business intelligence systems. The ASD-BI methodology's main characteristics are adaptive to environment changes, enhance knowledge capturing and sharing, and help in implementing and achieving an organization's strategy. The focus of the chapter is to demonstrate how agile methods would enhance the integration of data mining in business intelligence systems. The chapter presents ASD-BI main characteristics and provides two case studies, one on higher education and the other on (Bibliomining). The main result of the chapter is that applying agile methodologies for integrating business intelligence and data mining systems would increase transfer of tacit knowledge and raise the strategic dimension of using the knowledge discovery process.

E-learning is a sector of Saudi Arabian education that is witnessing significant growth, particularly in higher education. This article aims to provide a historical overview of the development and evolution of e-learning in Saudi Arabia. With the Ministry of Higher Education at the core of education and e-learning, the article will explore recent e-learning-related developments in King Saud University, King Faisal University, King Abdulaziz University and the Saudi Electronic University. As part of this analysis, the article will explore the challenges that are being encountered and the strategies that each of these institutions is implementing to support and develop e-learning. It is equally important to evaluate the role played by international partners, particularly the UK and the US, in supporting e-learning financially, socially and technologically. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has obtained significant support from the US and UK, with both countries contributing to the establishment of an integrated model for e-learning curriculums and information management systems in Saudi Arabia. Finally, this analysis explores the growth potential of e-learning and the efforts being made to support Saudi Arabia’s growing university student population. The article includes an exploration of the methods of evaluating, securing and modifying the current systems.

Educational indicators are instruments of significant importance for assessing the outcomes and quality of educational institutions. In order to provide information for strategic decisions, Business Intelligence systems are gaining more and more space in the Information Technology market. This article intends to identify the main educational indicators and their various approaches, in order to evaluate their contributions and/or inadequacies to the pedagogical management of the Instituto Federal da Bahia, besides addressing the Business Intelligence theme, identifying their origin, concepts and applicability. In conclusion, it was presented a proposal to develop a BI system to generate intelligence through microdata extracted from IFBA's academic and administrative systems and, finally, to produce strategic indicators to support decision making regarding students' academic life.

Open educational resourses have become a strategic source of a high degree of importance and this explains the reason for the acceleration of countries to join the use of them, but unfortunately, the results of a survey study conducted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on eight experts in e-learning showed a gap that hinders integration in the use of open educational resources among educational institutions, especially at the general and higher education. Accordingly, the present study aimed to review the most prominent Open Educational Resources (OER) platforms in Saudi Arabia and identify the reality of cooperation and the best means of integration between higher and general education institutions from the perspective of specialists and concerned bodies. It adopted the analytical survey (descriptive) method. It covered a population of specialists and concerned bodies in e-learning from higher and general education institutions. The study applied a questionnaire to a sample of (144) participants from higher education institutions and (327) participants from general education institutions. Finally, it concluded results, made recommendations and suggested further studies.

In today’s highly competitive and cumulative uncertainty in the business domain, access to organizations’ business intelligence (BI) can mean not only the difference between profit and loss but also the difference between survival and bankruptcy. The use of Business intelligence systems has become an inevitable requirement for profitability, competitiveness and organisational survival. This study objective is to determine factors that influence users’ acceptance of BI systems in the South African energy sector and develop a conceptual model to explain factors that influence users’ acceptance of BI systems. A survey research strategy was used for the study to empirically test a conceptualised model using collected data. The results of the study found that habit, affect and perceived consequences have a significant influence on users’ acceptance of BI systems. Furthermore, the study discovered that habit influences affect in respect of users’ acceptance of BI systems. The study contributed to literature and body of knowledge on factors that influence users’ acceptance of BI systems in organisations.

Aim/Purpose: This paper investigates the educational gap between males and females caused by gender segregation in Saudi educational institutions and the role of Mobile Learning Technology (MLT) in bridging this gap through the emphasis on teaching practices, learning resources, and opportunities, as well as participation in campus life. Background: There is a gender gap over the access to educational opportunities and facilities raised by the segregation in educational institutions in Saudi Arabia. In Saudi society, school campuses have been always been restricted due to the cultural and social values of the native people. The practice of segregation extends across all social aspects of life including education. This has resulted in a gender preferred educational system that highly favors males over females in terms of teaching, learning opportunities, facilities, and resources, as well as the participation of activities on campus. This has become disadvantageous for female students because it has limited their equal access to learning opportunities, sometimes trained by less experienced instructors, and has led thus to an unfair academic performance. Methodology: An online surveying system was used with a population of all female students who are enrolled in 13 colleges located in Jeddah. The size of the population was 15,171 students. The sampling technique was probabilistic random in which only 300 questionnaires were received back, and only 187 out of 300 questionnaires were fully answered. The study is descriptive, and it used a quantitative survey method with a cross-sectional collected data. Contribution: This study supported instructors and higher education administrators in adopting MLT to overcome some cultural gaps caused due to segregation by adding literature on MLT contribution to the enhancement of higher education opportunities for women in Saudi Arabia. This study is the first of its kind in the context of Saudi Arabia to delve into the role of MLT in closing the gender gap through making an effective Saudi higher education system policy. Findings: There are some challenges experienced by Mobile Learning Technology to close the gap caused by gender segregation in the Saudi educational institutions in relation to some dimensions that include demographic data, teaching gap, content, educational opportunities, participation in campus life, and the use of mobile learning. Recommendations for Practitioners: This study recommends that the educators should consider the need to implement Mobile Learning Technology in the educational system of Saudi Arabia as a means of bridging the everlasting gap of gender separation, especially in schools, and also to empower female students to compete at the same level with their counterpart male students. Recommendation for Researchers: Further research is expected to focus on effective implementation in Mobile Learning in female campuses as well as government assistance of promoting Mobile Learning in both public and private schools of female campuses. Impact on Society: The study findings could be highly beneficial for understanding the problems that confront equality and transparency in education between male and female and how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools could help guarantee equality in education. Future Research: Future studies could be extended to other areas of assisted online education tools. Furthermore, measures can be implemented to enhance transparency and equality between males and females in education, which could be associated with satisfaction levels for both sides.
